Snake just wrote this fantastic post in the Cheer Club thread, but the idea is so grand that it requires its own thread for planning, organizing and daydreaming:

The Insurrection

There are moments in sports that will forever be etched in history. As Toronto Blue Jay fans, there have been a few, but all of which are decades old- the near triple-play, Robbie Alomar mocking the chop as he was rounding third and scored against Atlanta in the ’92 World series, and of course, Joe Carter's triumphant World Series clinching homerun.

Since 1993, the Jays fell off the map. The fans, if any, fell off the face of the planet. It is now 2004, and it is TIME for a revolution.

The Insurrection will occur. Mark this day in your calendar: July 26, 2004. This will be a day that will live in infamy. I didn’t come hear to tell you people how it will end- I came here to tell you- this is how it begins. I am not going to run through specific details of what exactly what will go down on this day. But I did to come here to tell you things will never, EVER be the same at the Sky Dome again.

1,000 strong forces in section 518.
A sea of blue to mesmerize the pin stripes.
And heckles that will target every player from Enrique Wilson, to Jorge Posada, to Steinbrener himself.

Tell your family, tell your friends, tell your neighbors, and tell strangers. The Insurrection will happen. Things have been set in motion that cannot be stopped. The beating of the drum will echo the beating of Joe Torre’s heart, when he realizes, THE INSURRECTION cannot be stopped. And a sign…

THE TORONTO BLUE JAYS

1992 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS
1993 WORLD SERIESCHAMPS
2004 WORLD SERIES CHAMPS

And after that final out we get in the top of the ninth, we sing once and for all to the Yankees and their hostile fans who entered our building:

“da na na na…… NA NA NA NA- HEY HEY HEY GOODBYE’’

A great night to bring out NFH's giant A-Rod on a dollar bill banner.

Hmmm. July 26, 2004. That's the night Tanyon Sturtze is scheduled to throw a perfect game for the Yankees, isn't it?

I plan to be there. How do I get in on this? Just get a ticket in that section?
_Jobu - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:03 PM EDT (#50905) #
Just ask for section 518 when getting your ticket. I sudgest we try to get them early if possible so we dont have any black and grey Yankee fans sitting in the middle of our sea of blue and messing up the effect.
_Jonny German - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:07 PM EDT (#50906) #
Tanyon Sturtze in Pinstripes... hehehe.

On the very off-chance that he's still on the Yankee roster July 26, I think a WELCOME BACK TANYON! banner would be funny. Especially with a head shot of his usual shell-shocked stare.

If we can get a large enough group confirmed, we can abuse my group tickets account for discounts (which get as good as 40% off).

If people want to e-mail me with their interest (COMN), I can get the ball rolling.

1,000 in section 518?
These are far too modest goals.
With some PR coverage, this thing could get big, and fast.
Anyone have any connections in the media?

Done! I am there!
_SNAKE - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:48 PM EDT (#50910) #
We don't need people to have connections to the media. The media, will come to us.

1,000 Strong is the minimum that will be required for The Insurrection to commence.

I predict the actual number to be in the tens of thousands.

It is only May 18, we will have 65+ days to round together an army.

Mark my words, the INSURRECTION will not be mistaken for some high school students coming to the dome as a trip, or some tourists from Nova Scotia. We will show that the Insurrection has been coldly calculated to redefine baseball North, and take over the entire skydome, and not just section 518.

Each day that passes, we will grow stronger. I already summoned 8 people just this day.

The Insurrection will not falter, it will not FAIL.
_Mike in CT - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:49 PM EDT (#50911) #
I will do everything in my power to get up there from Connecticut. I wouldn't want to miss this. It's definitely time for the Jays fans to reclaim Toronto!!
_Grand Funk Rail - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:50 PM EDT (#50912) #
Snake, you scare me.
But in a good way.
_Keith Talent - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:54 PM EDT (#50913) #
I'd like to be there, dressed in blue? What am I gonna do with all this black, grey and sparkly "Jays" stuff I bought?!?
_Simon - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 03:58 PM EDT (#50914) #
My goodness. Listen, this is fate. I am in Africa now. Guess when I'll be in southern Ontario? July 26-30. Oh my...that's crazy. It's the Yankees, and if I understand you correctly, that's the one you're planning? Listen, this is my first Jays game EVER! Please be gentle and maybe give me a shot at the drum?:P

I'm so psyched already!
Thomas - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:02 PM EDT (#50915) #
I'm down. Great idea.

We have to make this soemthing to behold. We have to be loud, the entire game, and make it sound like the place is full of 55,000 people. We have to have the Yankees shaking their heads the entire time.
_Grand Funk Rail - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:09 PM EDT (#50916) #
Anyone have any idea what Skydome security thinks of megaphones?
Methinks me might want to bring one.
_alsiem - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:09 PM EDT (#50917) #
I'll be there and I'll hype the event to as many people as possible.
_Grand Funk Rail - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:16 PM EDT (#50918) #
Thomas - I agree.
Part of me has this vision of the event being like a European soccer game, with the chanting and cheering all game long, LOUD.

Can't wait, can't wait, can't wait...
Thomas - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:17 PM EDT (#50919) #
On a side note, what is happening tonight? Do we have the drum down there?
_Simon - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:17 PM EDT (#50920) #
This is fate guys. My flight leaves London, UK at noon, and I arrive at 2:30 PM. Just enough time to check out TO just a little and then haed to my first Jays game. Whoa whoa whoa, this is all too much for me.
Thomas - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:18 PM EDT (#50921) #
...I'll check out teh Cheer Club thread.
_JBR - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 04:58 PM EDT (#50922) #
I'm in for two, and maybe more. I have already sent Aaron the e-mail. Sounds very, very neat.

Wear it and bring a blue flag. ;)

Simon, what a great game for your first one!

GFR, dunno about megaphones, but we can ask the Jays. If anyone has any "Can I bring such-and-such" questions, pass them to me and I'll ask security.
_Simon - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 06:29 PM EDT (#50924) #
Thanks Hank! It might be better for me to get my own tickets for the game since I'll most likely be with my relatives and such. I'll be there, and for sure I'll drop by the section (518 right?).
robertdudek - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 07:30 PM EDT (#50925) #
Hmmm. July 26, 2004. That's the night Tanyon Sturtze is scheduled to throw a perfect game for the Yankees, isn't it?

Yah, the single-A Tampa Yankees.
_Rob - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 07:38 PM EDT (#50926) #
Now, now. Nobody though E------ L----a would have a 2003 like that.

But, I'll be happy to join in on the Tanyon-bashing. :)
_Fawaz K - Tuesday, May 18 2004 @ 10:32 PM EDT (#50927) #
If Tanyon turns into another E------ L-----, I'm jumping from 518 with my balls tied to the railing...I couldn't possibly suffer any more...
_Jobu - Thursday, May 20 2004 @ 09:44 PM EDT (#50928) #
I recomend getting our tickets early so we are all together, perhaps that group ticket thing. Id hate to have random blobs of Yankee Wannabee's in the middle of the sea of blue.

I also recomend everyone paint half their faces blue and cheer wildler than ever before, but maybe I've been watching Braveheart to often.
Named For Hank - Thursday, May 20 2004 @ 10:35 PM EDT (#50929) #
Jobu, it's taken care of. I have 48 seats reserved for us, plus the section behind us is blocked off, so unless the Dome sells a really huge number of tickets for that game in the next few weeks, the rest of the section will be held for us.

We own 518, fellas.

If you haven't already, e-mail me with how many tickets you'll want.
_SNAKE - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 12:06 AM EDT (#50930) #
48 seats reserved.....ha ha ha. NFK, I admire your enthusiasm and the fact that you took immediate action in reserving us tickets. But, are you kidding me?.....On the Wednesday afternoon game, there were over 120 schools there. In one section, I believe it was 520, a school with about that 50 students created a 'sea of red', and had very LARGE signs. It was impressive to say the least, but if you or anyone else for that matter, is under the impression that THE INSURRECTION will replicate or assume the semblance of a school trip, then we might as well cancel it at this very moment.

The INSURRECTION is D-DAY. We HAVE to throw everything we got on this day. This is a Jays Game that will go down in HISTORY. I want all of 516-522 taken over. Anyone who reads this post, I want EVERYONE you to bring everyone you know there that day- from your old, senile, GRANDFATHER, to your third cousin Chip with a gimpy leg. This can only happen if we believe.

I will paint my face half-blue, creating the BRAVEHEART effect, step into the front row of 518, with one leg bent and raised on the platform rail. And then, as the drum roll slowly begins to pick up pace, in that ONE breathtaking, triumphant, emotionally charged moment.... raise THE HAMMER proudly above my head, like a batallion leader telling his army to take CHARGE.... the thousands, AND THOUSANDS of the fans behind me will begin to yell like we're about to storm the dome and kill every Yankee player in sight.

There will be NO DAWN for Bronx Bombers.
Named For Hank - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 07:08 AM EDT (#50931) #
Hehe, well, Snake, by reserving those 48 seats I basically blocked off the section for us. And currently they are not selling past 518, which means we can expand in that direction without any problem.

Plus, I didn't want to put more than 48 seats on my credit card without some people giving me ticket money!
_Fawaz K - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 07:47 AM EDT (#50932) #
Snake scares me...I don't think I want to sit next to him; I would like to get him to negotiate my auto insurance though.
_Jobu - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 11:21 AM EDT (#50933) #
You think that's intense? You should have seen the way he was looking at those twinkie fans after the Adams' grandslam.

NFH: Should we just pay you the ticket money at the next game we see you at?
Named For Hank - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 12:15 PM EDT (#50934) #
Not yet -- the price goes down the more tickets we buy, so I'd like to get a lot of confirmations before I collect money. I think I'll start a separate thread for ticket info, so we can use this one for crazy plans and daydreaming. ;)
_Jobu - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 01:52 PM EDT (#50935) #
NFH: Is there anyway to "bully" the Jay organization with your connections into getting us some crazy perks for Insurrection day? Something like clubhouse tours, meeting a jay, talkin to JP, free field rental, a trip to the press box.... i dunno, just anything cool?

50+ tickets has got to get us something sweet. :)
Named For Hank - Friday, May 21 2004 @ 02:22 PM EDT (#50936) #
Heh, I'll see what I can do. My connections aren't all that good.
_Fawaz K - Saturday, May 22 2004 @ 02:21 PM EDT (#50937) #
I WEEP! As it turns out, unless fate intervenes, I'm writing an exam as the Insurrection is taking place.
_Jobu - Sunday, May 23 2004 @ 01:46 AM EDT (#50938) #
Exams eh? Yes... I think that would be a good thing to investigate for my own summer courses lest I be crushed the week before the Insurrection.

(In a Diamond Joe Quimby voice running down the hallway): Vote Hentgen!

Hey guys.

Due to the low number of people who needed tickets I've had to cancel the reservation. I'll still be there in 518.

Named For Hank - Tuesday, July 20 2004 @ 05:45 PM EDT (#50949) #
He is, but he's doubtful for the event because he's got a gig for the next few weeks. Working on an alternate drummer, tho'.
