Dick Scott, the Blue Jays Farm Director, has a busy week ahead of him. He has to assign all the new draftees to their short season minor league teams. He also has a group of players in extended spring training who need a team. Players in EST include John Wesley, Jermy Acey, Amos Day, maybe Chris Leonard, DJ Hanson, and of course James Pidutti.

At the same time as Dick Scott assigns these players to their new teams he looks within the system to see who deserves a mid-season promotion. Should Ryan Roberts be moved up? What about Miguel Negron, Tyrell Godwin, Adam Peterson, Cam Reimers, Bubbie Buzachero? But remember that for every move there are two others that have to be made. First you need a player to replace the one you just moved up. Secondly, someone loses their job, and some players might be released.

So what would you do? It is time for the "Help Dick Scott do his job" contest.

Some Rules:
1. We will award ten points for each correct promotion you forecast. No points are awarded for forecast demotions or player releases.
2. We will deduct five points for each incorrect move you forecast.
3. Qualifying moves are those between Saturday the 12th and Friday the 18th of June. Auburn Doubledays season opener is the 18th of June, Pulaski starts on the 21st.
4. If someone moves up because of an injury that is just the luck of the draw. We will look at all moves without trying to determine the motive for the move.
5. Contest applies to players signed as at April 1, 2004, so assignments of 2004 draftees are not part of the contest
6. Contest applies to players assigned to full season teams only

Here is my ballot:

Raul Tablado promoted to New Hampshire
Ryan Roberts promoted to Dunedin
Jermy Acey promoted to Charleston

Cam Reimers promoted to Syracuse
DJ Hanson assigned to New Hampshire
Shawn Marcum promoted to Dunedin
Justin James promoted to Dunedin

Adam Peterson promoted to Syracuse
Bubbie Buzachero promoted to New Hampshire
Brian Reed promoted to Dunedin

Ten player moves on my ballot. Josh Banks, Francisco Rosario, Kevin Frederick and Andy Torres have already moved up due to injuries.

I'd say just call up all the new draftees for the June 25-27 series in Toronto, just to even the playing field with the Expos.

Funniest contest name we've had in a while. I'll enter later tonight or tomorrow.

Incidentally, the winner receives 1,000,000 points and a lovely array of cuttlefish.

Any New news on DJ Hanson? JP said he would be in Dunedin soon, and that was two weeks ago.

Chris Leonard to Charleston
Shaun Marcum to Dunedin
(Jamie Vermilyea back to bullpen; Brad Mumma goes who knows where, but not up)

Bubbie Buzachero to New Hampshire

Vito to New Hampshire? He hasnt exactly dominated??? I dont promote him to the final month, to just get his feet wet and prepare him for the Arizona fall league. Raul Tablado, is having the first hot streak of his carreer and it is way to early to have him promoted.

Vito to New Hampshire? He hasnt exactly dominated???

He's got a .302 EqA which is just fine, and he's in the Top 20 in the league in EqA and (I think) RARP. He hasn't dominated, but he's hit well, and he needs to be moved quickly, to be pushed to AA. The Jays have a lot of 1B/DH types drafted and so the current guys will need top be moved ahead where possible.
Mike Green - Thursday, June 10 2004 @ 09:50 AM EDT (#55357) #
Of course, in the FSL, it's a split-season and Dunedin leads the Western Division by 2 games with the first half of the season winding down.

They've got Cannon, Metropoulos and Lind who all should be seeing consistent time at first base. I wonder if one will get an early shot in Charleston or Dunedin. I'd have no problem with starting Cannon out there.

"He's got a .302 EqA which is just fine, and he's in the Top 20 in the league in EqA and (I think) RARP."

Doesnt matter. Is he in even in the top 10 in OPS, Slugging, OBP?? If Vito is barely hitting 280 in High A, I doubt he will do any better in AA. The only reason, Vito would be in AA now, is cause hes too old for the league and they need to tell if hes legitimate or waisting their time on this guy. It way to premature, having Cannon and Metropoluos in high or Charleston, i would even suggest letting Metropolous start in pulaski, after the season he had in NCAA.

I don't think this topic was meant to be a forum for debate Johnny. I'm pretty sure it's supposed to be a guessing contest.

You know what is funny, is all you guys or gals make comments on here not really understanding how Dick Scott actually works, and not really understanding what has happened in extended. All of you say that Chris Leonard should move up, his shoulder is not good, he is hardly throwing 80mph. He needs a lot more time. The Blue Jays move people slowly, and former top round guys are going down. They also aren't interested as much as moving people because they should be moved, they know where people stand, so they probably aren't going to break up possibly league championship teams low and high A. I'm not saying he won't move anyone, but don't expect anything major. Plus I don't even understand the way rule 5 and protection works, but that is why they will keep guys away from double and triple A, until they are ready, so we don't lose good players like we are always doing. Ford and Harper the most recent and notables.

Debate? Any topic can be a debate, or offered a different opinion and thats just mine. The last poster seems to beg a differ as well Sneeps.

Most notable non promotions

1. Felix Romero to Dunedin
2. Brian Reed to Duenedin
3. Ryan Roberts To Dunedin
4. Jeremy Acey to Charleston (unless injured)
5. Bubby Buzchero to New Hampshire
6. Tom Mastny to Dunedin (too old for Low A)
_Jordan - Thursday, June 10 2004 @ 06:29 PM EDT (#55364) #
XBJ, thanks for coming by. You're probably right that Leonard isn't yet ready to move up; none of us have any information about him, of course, since the Jays don't release players' medical data. It seemed a likely guess that he would be rounding into shape, since he had his surgery (IIRC) right around the time he was drafted in 2002. In any event, I hope his recovery continues to go well.

Generally, keep in mind that this thread is entirely speculation, and that it's meant to be fun. None of us envisions replacing Dick Scott, who's doing a great job; we're just fans who like to guess along with the master. No harm in that, right?
_Sneeps - Thursday, June 10 2004 @ 11:51 PM EDT (#55365) #
I thought Leonard had elbow trouble, not shoulder problems. Or are the shoulder problems new?

Perhaps we should ask the Blue Jays medical director, Dr. Bob File!

I didn't mean anything with my comments. Sorry if it sounded that way. All I know is that Dick Scott is about to release anywhere from 20-24 players. Wow, it will be a tough week.

With Charleston and Dunedin in the running for first half titles the Jays might delay their roster shuffles. If so we will extend the contest date past this Friday to Sunday or Monday.

_Tim - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 06:00 PM EDT (#55374) #
Bluejays need to push Roberts up faster, he plays at the league level, he will probably hit the same at High A as he did for the Rivercats, he definitly was a steal.
Gerry - Friday, June 25 2004 @ 02:52 PM EDT (#55375) #
Here are the results of the contest:

Correct Incorrect Points
Gerry 5.5 4 35
Mike Forbes 3.5 4 15
Jordan 3.5 10 0
Mike Green 4.5 9 0
Geoff 4 8 0
Johnnys99 3 3 15

Geoff gets a half point for promoting Brian Reed all the way to AA.
I also gave half points for Adam Peterson, almost everyone had him going to Syracuse.

Three promotions were selected by all voters, Ryan Roberts, Brian Reed and Adam Peterson. Everyone got Bubbie Buzachero wrong. Other promotions that were on 50% of the ballots, but that did not happen, were:

Carlo Cota
Amos Day
Chris Leonard
Dominic Rich
Vito Chiaravalloti

Only two voters predicted Justin James promotion to Dunedin.

Thanks to all who voted.
