Hey, our buddies from Tampa are in town! Let's go greet 'em in old-fashioned Cheer Club style.

Bird Droppings sent me a note this morning to say that the drum is a "maybe" tonight, because he's moving this afternoon. I think this is a lame excuse, and I propose that we use this thread to list the bribes we will offer him to show up.

Tonight will also be the debut of our Tom Cheek banner. I was simply going to make GET WELL SOON, TOM, but then I was thinking that instead of "get well" the sign should say something about coming off of the DL. Anyone have any suggestions?

I'd like to ask the faithful to get to the Dome early-ish if they can tonight to secure us the front of 518 (or 517 or 519, if we have to) for the banner. If I can escape early from work I'll be there around 7:10, but if I can't I'll see you at 7:45.

Also, any suggestions for a Tom Cheek cheer?

Stephen Harper will be throwing out the first pitch tonight.
_Brent - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:37 AM EDT (#55910) #
There's a 50% chance that I can get to the Dome early tonight. This statement seems a bit sketchy, but it's been crazy at work today. Really crazy.

COME OFF THE DL SOON, TOM is too awkwardly worded. Someone help me with this.
_Anders - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:42 AM EDT (#55912) #
If im not mistaken Lefty Lilly goes on thursday at an early 12.30 game. We're going to need the Roosevelt k's, and I dont think we have anything for Nakamura, and Im fairly positive we dont have anything for Peterson.

Any ideas?
For Peterson we could get a picture of a naked guy with a fig leaf over his business.
Or perhaps a picture of the old Batman circa Adam West.

For Nakamura, I dont know. Maybe something not blatantly racist though.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:49 AM EDT (#55913) #
Maybe a kookaburra for Nakamura?
_Brent - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:53 AM EDT (#55914) #
Oscar Peterson? I've got nothing...
_Loveshack - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:54 AM EDT (#55915) #
Maybe a picture of George Wendt?
Adam Peterson - Norm Peterson?
_The Original Ry - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:04 AM EDT (#55916) #
For Peterson:

Then again, maybe that wouldn't be such a good idea.
_Anders - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:06 AM EDT (#55917) #
I suppose we could just find a submarine for Nakamura - although I dont know if thats esoteric enough.

Then again, Vinny Chulk is the Hulk
_Rob - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:10 AM EDT (#55918) #
Adam Peterson...maybe an Adam-12 reference?

(More image search results here.)
_Rob - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:13 AM EDT (#55919) #
And I found a neat pic of Nakamura from JapaneseBaseballPlayers.com:

It's a Twins hat, but Nakamura nonetheless.
Craig B - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:16 AM EDT (#55920) #
I *love* the submarine for Nakamura!

How's this one?
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:18 AM EDT (#55921) #
Man, that's one ugly sub, Craig. ;)

I can put a big K on the side of it.
Craig B - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:20 AM EDT (#55922) #
Well, I would have lifted the Beatles' "Yellow Submarine", but I wouldn't want someone to draw the conclusion that it was an unflattering commentary on Nakamura's ancestry...
_The Original Ry - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:21 AM EDT (#55923) #
If you want something really out there for Peterson, how about Pete Peeters:

Craig B - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:22 AM EDT (#55924) #
I got this one too...

Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:23 AM EDT (#55925) #
If you have a good image of the Yellow Submarine I can make it into a Blue Jays blue and graphite submarine.
_Jacko - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:26 AM EDT (#55926) #
I don't understand the Nakamura Submarine reference.

How about a Samurai Warrior?

Atom Peterson?

Sloane Peterson? (ok, that's kinda obscure).

Craig B - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:29 AM EDT (#55927) #
Good idea!

Craig B - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:30 AM EDT (#55928) #
Jacko, Nakamura throws underhand... a "submariner" in baseball-speak.

I like the atom for Adam Peterson.
_Rob - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:32 AM EDT (#55929) #
What, no Adam-12? :)
Coach - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:34 AM EDT (#55930) #
Someone help me with this.

Aaron, I can't think of anything using the DL, but a simple "We miss you, Tom" sign works for me.

Love the Atom. Love the Beatles' sub in Fighting Jays blue. You guys are amazing.
Thomas - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 11:36 AM EDT (#55931) #
I almost felt bad about missing today's game due to my sister's middle school graduation, and then I realised I don't need to because Stephen Harper's going to be there. Hopefully we'll get a good Cheer Club crew (maybe drum, too) up to every game this series, and I hope to be there on Wedensday and maybe Thursday.

Here's an obscure idea for Peterson. Since he's going to help the Jays bullpen turn over a new leaf and he symbolises the pen's resurgence with young relievers like Frasor and Chulk, how about a picture of CFL broadcaster Leif Petterson? I don't know.
_Daryn - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:12 PM EDT (#55932) #
Stephen Harper will be throwing out the first pitch tonight.

Well... he SAYS he is throwing out the first pitch, but who knows what he'll do if he actually gets elected...

Ooops wrong thread *LOL*
_Daryn - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:15 PM EDT (#55933) #
I like the first "campy" submarine....

For Peterson we could just use big P's
_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:22 PM EDT (#55934) #
list the bribes we will offer him to show up.

if i stop at harvey's before the game he can have an onion ring...
he can touch The Henke pin
a shiny new nickle
signed piece of paper indicating that the owner of said paper is a cool guy for showing up and letting us use his drum when its needed.

Im out of ideas...
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:28 PM EDT (#55935) #

Comments?

_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:36 PM EDT (#55937) #
Not to nitpick, but could it be centered a little more?

Other than that I think its simple, yet powerful. Perfect.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 12:58 PM EDT (#55938) #
I tried WE MISS centred above YOU TOM but thought it looked funny, which is why I put it off to the side.
robertdudek - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:02 PM EDT (#55939) #
NFH,

Try changing the font sizes of the top and bottom line a little such that they are precisely the same width.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:28 PM EDT (#55940) #
The WE MISS is bigger, but I'll try bigger still.

Gentlemen, I present the Mike Nakamura K:

_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:29 PM EDT (#55941) #
NFH: You're just the gift that keeps on giving.

Any ideas for a Hentgen K? The K car again perhaps?
Thomas - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:38 PM EDT (#55942) #
Well done old boy, well done. I'm already hoping he doesn't pitch tonight so I don't miss its debut.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:41 PM EDT (#55943) #
Well, since the only starter we have Ks for is Lilly, you don't have to worry about it, Thomas. ;)

I'll try to make a dozen or so Rx Ks today so Alex can have them for Doc's start tomorrow.

New and probably final version of the Tom banner:

_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:50 PM EDT (#55944) #
Rx K's.... good choice, good choice.

The Tom sign looks great as well. Good work.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 01:52 PM EDT (#55945) #
What's the biggest strikeout total for Doc in a game? I'll make one more K than that for him.

Should they be straight up Rx'es or should I try to make a Kx? I think Rx, less to think about.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 02:07 PM EDT (#55946) #
_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 02:12 PM EDT (#55947) #
I agree NFH. Keep it simple with Rx, it's cooler.

Recorded 10 plus strikeouts twice, April 10 vs. BOS and again on Sept. 1 vs. NYY.

Looks like 11 chief.
_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 02:23 PM EDT (#55948) #
In other news, does anyone think the tempers will flare again between these two "rivals" or has it been long forgotten? The way this season is headed, I wouldn't mind a bitter rivalry with the Rays as both teams fight for the Goulet (Third Place Al East).
_Jobu - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 03:27 PM EDT (#55949) #
AHHHHHHHHHHHH DAMNIT!!

Wont be able to make tonights game boys. See you Wednesday and make sure I hear that drum on tv!
Thomas - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 03:43 PM EDT (#55950) #
I know how you feel Jobu.

I prefer the Doc Halliday with the pointed pistol, but I guess I'm in the minority.
_Cristian - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 03:48 PM EDT (#55951) #
I guess my vote to have a picture of Cy Young was discarded as well.
_Alex Obal - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 03:48 PM EDT (#55952) #
I should be there early to secure the front row, around 6:45, with the tape.
Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 03:50 PM EDT (#55953) #
I love the Doc with the pistol, too, but the Rx'es can be used for our Doc's Infirmary night, where we all wear scrubs. Whenever I find a cheap source of scrubs.
_Anders - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 04:59 PM EDT (#55954) #
We still need Adam Peterson.

I think this is sort of cute

or, on a torontoish note, fellow Toronto athlete mopete.

_Ryan Lind - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 05:10 PM EDT (#55955) #
A dam?

Named For Hank - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 05:27 PM EDT (#55956) #
I don't think we have hit on the magic Adam Peterson K yet. But we will. Let the brainstorming continue!
_The Original Ry - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 06:22 PM EDT (#55957) #
There's always Mo-Pete:

Looking at Peterson's bio in the Jays media guide, he apparently resides in Abrams, Wisconsin. You could go with an Abrams tank.
_The Original Ry - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 09:21 PM EDT (#55958) #
Oops -- I'm really slow tonight. I completely missed the earlier mention of Mo-Pete. Nevermind.
_Rob - Tuesday, June 22 2004 @ 10:49 PM EDT (#55959) #
Don't know if you saw this in the game thread, but your Tom Cheek sign made the SNET broadcast for about 15-20 seconds.
If I knew who was who, I would have blurted out "Hey! There's Bird Droppings!" which would have caused my parents to look at each other quizzically.
_Daryn - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 08:46 AM EDT (#55960) #
Are those Golf Club Head Covers sticking out of the top of the Submarine??? Good idea *wink*
_bird droppings - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 09:35 AM EDT (#55961) #
I've really been letting down the Fightin' Jays lately.

Last week was the fact that I couldn't move the entire left side of my body due to a torn AC in my shoulder and that my knee looked like someone took a sledge hammer to it... If I show up this week, I'm still hurtin' and my knee looks pretty cool so if you're interested just ask and I'll be more then pleased to share...

Oh, the benefits of rugby.

This week is movin' week for me. I am using a friends truck to do this thus its taking me about a year to move from Cobourg to St. Catharines and Toronto... I will make it to a game sooner rather then later and we will have much rejoice with high fives and merry sing alongs. PHELPS! We need somebody...
Named For Hank - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 02:11 PM EDT (#55962) #
Singing isn't the same without you, BD, especially since no one else has the balls to make up verses on the spot.

If you're having trouble transporting the drum because of your shoulder and knee, let me know and Vanessa can bring her car over and you can stow it in there and we can bring it out for you for a while (and while you're in Europe).

Also, Dr. V will gladly look at your injuries.
_Jobu - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 05:25 PM EDT (#55963) #
In a different thread I mentioned I had access to 4 or 5 scrubs, turns out one of my loser friends has like 15 in his closet! I found them while rummaging when he wasnt around. Little late now but useful for the next Doc start.
Named For Hank - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 07:03 PM EDT (#55964) #
HOLY MOLY, JOBU HIT THE MOTHERLODE!

Stick 'em in that backpack of yours and we'll use 'em for the next start.
_Alex Obal - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 11:40 PM EDT (#55965) #
Awesome. I'm speechless. If ever anyone deserved a cuttlefish...

Who's in for the matinee tomorrow? It's a Lilly start so I have to be there.
_Jobu - Wednesday, June 23 2004 @ 11:42 PM EDT (#55966) #
Okay, I didnt bring them today, but my loser friend Rick has a CLOSET FULL OF SCRUBS!!! I was never more glad his dad teaches dentistry. So next doc start should be memorable to say the least. Im thinking some "DOC'S INTERNS" signage or something.
_Jobu - Thursday, June 24 2004 @ 03:26 AM EDT (#55967) #
When is Doc's next Dome start anyways?
Named For Hank - Thursday, June 24 2004 @ 07:11 AM EDT (#55968) #
I forgot that it was a matinee. I'll be at work.
