A number of fine pitching performances in the minors last night as the affiliates went 3-2.

Syracuse 0 at Toledo 1

Josh Towers was the victim of poor run support, but he pitched a fine game.  Towers allowed one run over 7 innings giving up 5 hits and 2 walks with 8 strikeouts.  Shaun Marcum pitched a perfect 8th inning.

Sergio Santos continued his hitting streak with a single in 4 ABs.  The hitting streak is now at 20 games.

NH 0 at Trenton 3

Another offensive stinker in the minors last night.  NH had just two hits - a Lind single and Singleton double.

Kurt Isenberg pitched a full house for the Fisher Cats - 7 innings, 7 hits allowed, 2 runs allowed, 2 BBs, and 2 Ks.  This pushed his record to 2-7.  Apparently he doesn't know 2-7 is the worst starting poker hand in hold em.

Lakeland 0 at Dunedin 3 (game 1)

Ryan Klosterman hit his 10th home run for the D-Jays in the opener while Jesse Litsch went the distance on the mound.  Litsch's line was 7 innings, 4 hits, 0 walks, 5 Ks and 0 runs.

Lakeland 0 at Dundein 6 (game 2)

Lakeland will likely be glad to get out of town after 14 scoreless innings yesterday.  Ricky Romero was more than happy to match Litsch.  Romero's line was 7 innings, 4 hits, 1 walk, 6 Ks and 0 runs.

Scott Dragicevich's 3 run HR was more than enough offense for Dunedin.  Klosterman went 2-2 with a walk in game 2.

Wisconsin 2 at Lansing 6

Josh Bell went 3-3 with a double and home run to lead the Nuts.  Brian Pettway also hit a home run for Lansing - his 11th (and it seems most of them have been on a Tuesday) going 2-3 on the night.  Anthony Hatch also had two hits.

Aaron Tressler got the start and pitched 6 quality innings.  He gave up 5 hits and 2 runs, but walked none and struck out 7.  He's quietly put together a strong start to the season in Lansing.

Three Stars!
3 - Josh Bell
2 - Ricky Romero
1 - Jesse Litsch

In fairness to the top 2 affiliates, they faced top-quality pitching in Humberto Sanchez (for Toledo against Syracuse) and Phil Hughes (for Trenton against New Hampshire).

Litsch has essentially duplicated last summer's excellent performance from Pulaski in Dunedin this spring.  That is very impressive for a 21 year old. He has given up a high number of hits, despite an excellent K rate.  His ball in play data from the link suggests that it is not his doing- 58% ground balls, 11% line drives, 24% fly balls and 1% pop-ups.  It also suggests that his low home run rate is not a fluke.

As Gerry pointed out in yesterday's thread, the Syracuse SkyChiefs and the Toronto Blue Jays will be together for 2 more seasons, unless the Jays decide to have a change of heart (doubtful).  Here's the link from the Syracuse Post-Standard.

Again, I state Gerry was right and I was wrong!  :)

The Florida State League's All-Star break starts on Friday, and Dunedin and Fort Myers are tied for the first-half lead.  Dunedin has an afternoon game today, and leads 3-0 after 8 innings, with Orlando Trias throwing the shutout for 6 innings and Eric Nielsen driving in two.
