The Barfield Division hogs the limelight as top teams face off while Pistol Nine shatters a BBFL record.

ALOMAR DIVISION:

In last week’s marquee matchup, Slippery Pete slid by #7 WAMCO 6-5-1 to retain a shaky hold on fourth place. This week, the #2 Gashouse Gorillas attack #3 Mebion Glyndwr, who de-tusked the atypically struggling Toronto Walrus 9-3-0. At the other end of the ledger, Ghost Man On Third got a desperately needed 9-3-0 win over Hannibal’s Cannibals to climb within two games of avoiding relegation. Recent strong play by last year’s champion Thunderbirds and third-place Austin Senators has pushed them beyond the clutches of relegation for the moment.

BARFIELD DIVISION:

The #1 Magic 9 held off #2 Moscow Rats 7-5-0 and widened their lead to eight full games. The #3 1-Tool Wonders and #4 Cooney Islanders fought to a draw and couldn’t gain any ground on the leader. This week, the Rats face the Islanders in yet another A-list matchup. Bodell’s Bashers set an all-BBFL record with 17 steals, breaking the mark of 16 by European Wannabe.in 2004. And I did a triple-take when I saw this: Pistol Nine posted a K/BB ratio of 32, obliterating the record of 8.60 set by Mebion Glyndwr in 2004.

CARTER DIVISION:

Sexy Underpants, Wedding Singers and Chico’s Bail Bonds continue to fight amongst themselves for two of the automatic promotion slots to Barfield. The #8 Garth Iorg Gremlins defeated the #6 Trembling Wilburys 7-3-2 in last week’s marquee matchup but fell to 9th because of a heroic 10-2-0 effort by the New Jersey Stratuses. This week, the top-ranked Underpants take on the #5 Shining Force, who smoked Hammie’s Rollies 10-1-1. The Blocked Youngsters set a Carter record with a .372 batting average. Scottish Dunces set negative records for Carter with 16 runs and a .180 average.

Always nice to set a record.

I wish I could trade and retool for next year, especially since the way keepers can stay keepers forever if you trade them makes it hard to move up.  But I'm only 6 games out of relegation and my remaining schedule has me facing the:

5 team
3 team
2 team
12 team
1 team

So 4 of the top 5 teams are left.  And I'm lucky enough to face the 1 and 2 team twice this season!  D'oh!

Looks like I'll be going down to the wire in the "avoid relegation" race.

The race for the final playoff spots is heating up in Carter Division. There are 6 teams within 6 games of each other vying for the final 2 spots. On a personal note, it would be a true Cinderella story if the 8th place New Jersey Stratuses, who spent the 1st month of the season in last place, were able to make it into the winners bracket. They are currently 1 game out of 6th place.

And if it wasn't for Manny Delcarmen, who walked one, it would have been INF!  I was wondering what the record was and I figured I had to be close on Saturday when I was sitting at 28:1.  I guess it wasn't as close as I thought.   It's nice to make a mark in Barfield now that I'll be sent down to Carter next year (barring a huge turnaround).
