The Jays score 6 in the 9th to win and you want to know about the minor leagues??

The affiliates were 1-3, with two ugly losses.

Syracuse 0 at Toledo 6

John Thomson did not have a successful start for the Chiefs.  He gave up all 6 runs in 4.2 innings.  He struck out 4, walked 4 and gave up 7 hits.  Chad Mottola had 2 of the 6 Syracuse hits on the night.

New Hampshire 1 at Akron 8

Rob Cosby hit a solo HR while the rest of the team managed just three singles.  Yusaku Iriki took his lumps on the mound giving up 5 runs in just two innings.

Dunedin 9 at Daytona 5

The D-Jays pounded out 16 hits last night.  Hetherington and Kyle Phillips each hit homers.  Hetherington also had a single and 2 walks out of the leadoff spot.  Chad Cota and Brian Jeroloman each had 3 hits.  Jeroloman has one of the more unique batting lines I've seen:  .261/.432/.343.  It'll be interesting to see how he progresses when pitchers have a better ability to throw strikes at higher levels.

Orlando Trias got the start and pitched well enough to win:  5.1 innings and 3 runs allowed.  He walked 5, gave up 5 hits while striking out 4.

Lansing 4 at Dayton 5

Travis Snider was in a bit of a mini-slump recent, going 7-32 in the 9 games prior to last night.  Perhaps he'll go on another tear after going 3-5 with a double last night.  Matt Liuzza had a solo home run.

Rey Gonzalez started for the Nuts gave up 3 earned runs in 6 innings.  He struck out 1 and walked 1 while giving up 8 hits.

3 Stars!
3 - Chad Cota
2 - Brian Jeroloman
1 - Luke Hetherington

Jeroloman is 22, and apparently a fine defensive catcher.  His career line is consistent with 2007's performance. He is not likely to hit for power.  If he can hit .260-.270 in the Show and draw some walks, he might end up as the left-handed part of a platoon.

Did Zaun catch last night for Syracuse?  I noticed he's on the roster.

Yes.

Pistol (and all of the minor league crew) link to the boxscores in the updates, and that is the easy way to check.

Sigh. 9 game win streak is over for Syracuse. Fun to watch while it lasted though. Must have been all due to the leadership of Thigpen given the Jays big comeback with him on the bench yesterday :)

Five Lugnuts were named to the Midwest League all-star roster.  Travis Snider was selected as a starter.  Matt Liuzza and Sean Shoffit were selected as backups.  Adrian Martin and Paul Phillips were selected as pitchers.  Martin's selection surprised me but he does have a 1.13 ERA in 31 innings so he is pitching well in a swingman role.

Adrian Martin has posted lovely GO/AO and W/K numbers this year.  They have usually been pretty good, but he may have difficulty against left-handed hitters particularly as he advances up the system.  If all goes perfectly for him, he may end up with a career in middle relief.

Eric Fowler is off the DL and making his season debut for Dunedin tonight.  He pitched four good innings and one bad one.

David Purcey had his worst start of the year.

Josh Banks has pitched six innings, two runs allowed on five hits.
