Just one of the affiliates were in action.  Much like the parent club, they couldn't get the big hit when they needed it and they didn't hit for power.  None whatsoever, not a sausage.

GCL Braves 5 GCL Blue Jays 4

Kissimmee, FL - The first inning told the tale in this one.  The Jays had a chance to break out on top when Luis Fernandez walked and Jonathan Talley singled but Robinzon Diaz followed by grounding into a double play and Justin McClanahan struck out, leaving Fernandez at third.  The Braves jumped on Jays starter Chase Lirette for three runs in their half of the first.  Lirette got the first hitter to ground out but he plunked the next man, allowed a stolen base, gave up a single, uncorked a wild pitch and gave up another single that scored a run.  On that scoring play, left fielder Bradley McElroy, catcher Antonio Jimenez and second baseman "Marvelous" Arvin Gonzalez teamed up on a 7-2-4 putout to cut down a runner at second.  What that did was turn a three-run homer into a two-run job instead when Jake Hanson took Lirette deep to give the Braves the 3-0 lead.   Markus Brisker made an error in center that turned into a two-base clank but that was rendered meaningless when Lirette got a grounder to short to end the rally.  The Braves would up their lead to 4-0 in the fourth on a leadoff triple and sac fly off Lirette.  He lasted until a two-out double in the fifth and was replaced by Yorman Mayaro, who induced a groundout to strand the runner in scoring position.

The Jays offence did squat in innings two through five, mustering only one hit on a Marcus Brisker single and he was promptly erased on a double play.  The Jays ineptitude was evidenced in the third when all three hitters struck out.  Finally, they put up a crooked number on the scoreboard in the sixth when Luis Fernandez and Jonathan Talley singled and were pushed to second and third on a Robinzon Diaz grounder.  Justin McClanahan lifted a sac fly to right score Fernandez and a throwing error from right field allowed Talley to tally one to the tally of the Jays rally.  By the way, anyone remember Talley Haines?

Yorman Mayaro couldn't hold down the Braves in their half of the sixth when he gave up a single, a stolen base and a balk and that resulted in a run-scoring single to make it 5-2 Braves.  Mayaro bounced back by setting down the next eight hitters in order.  The Braves also mowed down the Jays 1-2-3 in the seventh and eighth before rallying in the ninth.  Pinch-hitter Tyler Pastornicky singled and Justin McClanahan reached on a throwing error by the shortstop to put runners on the corners with the tying run at the plate.  Welinton Ramirez went down swinging for the first out but Bradley McElroy took one for the team for the second time in the game to load up the bases.   Kenneth Wilson pinch-ran for McElroy and he helped break up a double play when Markus Brisker grounded to short.  Wilson was forced out at second but the second baseman threw one away to allow Pastornicky and McClanahan to score to make it a one-run game.  Brisker made it to second on the play and was in scoring position for Antonio Jimenez but he flew out to end the game.

Boxscore Notes - Chase Lirette gave up four runs (all earned) on seven hits, a walk and two hit batsment over 4 2/3 innings but his K/BB mark was 5-1............Yorman Mayaro went a solid 3 1/3 innings of relief, giving up just one run on two hits and struck out a batter.  However, he did commit a costly balk.  On the season, his K/BB is 13-1 over 16.1 IP but hitters are batting .304 against him........The Jays only got five singles and two walks while striking out eight times in this game.  Jonathan Talley had two base knocks while Luis Fernandez reached on a safety and drew a walk.  Bradley McElroy got on base twice painfully on hit by pitches.

Dunedin has had a good start to the second half.  With Mills already there and Zip (and perhaps Cooper) to follow, they should be all right.  The lower level affiliates have been playoff material most years.

Hey guys, any thoughts of doing a mid-season prospect ranking? I find those always bring out some good conversations.

Look for a mid-season update, not a new ranking, tomorrow.

David Purcey earned the starting assignment for the International League in the triple A All-Star Game and did not disappoint.  He threw 2 perfect innings with 3 Ks.  Brad Mills had an outstanding outing for Dunedin as well tonight.

Based on the signings around Liebel, slot would have been about $397k.  He was the 95th pick and he signed for 105 money.
