Every ... okay, most ... well, all right, some ... New Year's Eves here on Da Box, we talk resolutions. (Near as I can tell, we've done it twice -- in 2004-05 and last year, 2007-08). But let's make this not-exactly-annual trek into New Year's fortitude and see if we can show some "resolve" ...

Now's your chance to share either your own baseball-related resolution, posted in public where you'll have no choice but to own up to it a year from now, or -- if you want to go for the cheap laugh, to post a resolution "on behalf of" someone in MLB.

That said, a few pointers ...

  • Don't go for the obvious; "The Toronto Blue Jays resolve to win the World Series in 2009." Well, duh, yeah.
  • Make them realistic, if possible -- "John Olerud resolves to make a comeback and hit .400 this year" ... well, not so much, you know?
  • No steroids- or other illegal paraphernalia-related resolutions, either way, okay?
  • Don't limit yourselves to just the Blue Jays -- there's a whole wide world of ballplayers out there!
  • Be nice -- or at least be civil! No "I (insert name of player) resolve to have a career-ending injury this year" shenanigans.
  • Too many rules? Nah -- now, have some fun and as the headline says, show some resolve!

Okay, then ... batter up!

I, JP Ricciardi, resolve to take some PR training this year - even though I don't really need it.  It's not me, it's you.

(Did I violate any rules?)

MLB and its teams resolve to keep with the times and play more day games.  More family friendly game times and more use of natural sunlight is just the ticket for the first year of the Obama administration.

The Toronto sports media (I'm thinking of someone with the initials RG) resolves to only use facts and to actually research them before posting them in their column.  Namely, to put in at least as much time as the average blog poster does in research.

OK, that wasn't really realistic was it?  :)

The Baseball Writers Association of America resolve to:

a) hire a web designer (my eyes, the goggles they do nothing!)

b) after voting for Jim Rice, go look into these new-fangeled stats people keep talking about, like OBP, and maybe read some Bill James.

c) figure out a way to haze the new kids from the internets.
