The Jays are close to signing a Venezuelan righty named Adonis Cardona. I'm guessing a cross between Adeiny Hechevarria and Fausto Carmona? I'll take it.

Judging from that video, he looks to have a pretty nice, hard-breaking curveball.  Here is another clip of him throwing a fastball:

This clip also gives you an idea of the lifestyle of baseball there.  Just take a look at their outfield wall.

anyone have any more info on him?

There's not much information out on him. So far, we only know that the deal is rumoured to be worth around $2.8 mil, according to AOL Fanhouse's Frankie Piliere.

Also of note via Piliere, is that other teams didn't value Cardona that highly and the Jays blew the other offers out of the water. Perhaps Paddy wanted to have a handshake deal well in advance of July 2nd, and that a strong offer would remove the chance of a bidding war later. Who knows.

Regardless, this is another positive sign coming from the front office. As the international day approaches, it will be interesting to see the level of Jays interest in other top flight talent.

Wow $2.8 is a lot. I'm guessing then he's considered the best or one of the best pitching prospects this year?

This is going to sound ridiculous, but based on the two videos it's looks like he's throwing in the upper 80s and has a nice breaking ball. He seems to have a lot of room to grow, someone like Ervin Santana doesn't seem to be too far fetched, no?
