The top three affiliates combined for eight hits on a 1-4 night on the farm.

Reno 5    Las Vegas 1

Three hits for the 51s.  Brad Emaus had two while the other, a homer, came from Jarrett Hoffpauir.  And, well, that's it.

Shawn Hill started and lasted just an inning.  He gave up a run on a hit.  No idea why he was forced to leave.  Zach Jackson picked up from there and gave up three runs in 6.1 frames.

New Hampshire 1    Trenton 2

Three hits for the Fisher Cats.  Callix Crabbe had two while the other, a double, came from Darin Mastroianni.  And, well, that's it.  Where have I read that before?

Randy Boone went the distance in this one allowing two runs (one earned) on six hits and no walks while striking out three.

Lakeland 2    Dunedin 0

Two hits for the D-Jays.  Both hits, doubles, came from Mark Sobolewski.  And, you guessed it, that's it.

Chad Jenkins was his usual self.  He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in five innings.  He struck out five along the way.  Boomer Potts struck out two in 1.1 innings of work.

The D-Jays and Lakeland were scheduled to play a pair but the nightcap was rained out.

Lansing 7    West Michigan 6

Hey, some offense!  Kevin Ahrens led the way in going 4-for-4 with a homer, two RBI and two runs.  Jon Del Campo drove in three.

Matt Fields got the start and went six innings allowing four runs (one earned) on five hits and walk against three strikeouts.  Steve Turnbull picked up his 21st save by striking out four in 1.2 frames.

Jamestown 4    Auburn 2

Back to the losing ways but at least the Doubledays managed 8 hits.  Andy Fermin had two hits, including a double, and drove in both runs while Jonathan Jones was 2-for-5 with a run and two stolen bases.  Gustavo Pierre had a hit and committed two errors.

GCL Blue Jays were rained out.

DSL Blue Jays did not play.

In Boone's last three starts, he's pitched 24 1/3 innings, allowed 13 hits, three earned runs and a single walk with 12Ks.  At 26 years old, he's going to need a promotion soon.

The Midwest League has a very expansive playoff system with four teams from each division making the playoffs.  The teams who qualify in the first half don't qualify again in the second half.

Lake County and Great Lakes qualified from the Eastern division in the first half.  Fort Wayne look set to claim one of the second half spots.  The final playoff spot is between West Michigan and Lansing with South Bend 2.5 games back.

With Lansing playing West Michigan those games are critical for the playoff push.  Lansing's win last night moves them just one game behind West Michigan for the last playoff spot and they could be tied if the Lugnuts could win tonight.  West Michigan travel to Lansing on September 1-3 for the final determination.

The Eastern League announced its post-season all star team.  Darin Mastroianni, Eric Thames and Kyle Drabek made the team.

The GCL Jays swept a doublheader from the Yankees today and that moved them into a playoff position by a half game.  The GCL Jays have only two games left in their season and if they win both they will make the playoffs.

It's been a great late-season run by the GCL Jays. They've won 10 of their last 12 games to sneak ahead of the Mets and Red Sox for the one WC playoff spot. If they hang on they'll play the Marlins in a one-game semifinal, winner goes to best-of-three final. The other two playoff teams are the Phillies and Rays. The Baby Jays pitching has been good, especially last half of the season. Team ERA of 3.01 is second in the league. Hitting-wise, they are No. 3 in HRs; batting avg. of .238 is the third-worst.
