Usually the season starts with the pitchers ahead of the hitters. The baby Jays had their hitting shoes on on Thursday with Anthony Gose, Kenny Wilson and Marcus Knecht leading the way.

Rochester 7 Buffalo 12

There were 30 hits in this game, are we back in the PCL? The Bisons had 17 hits and every starter contributed. Anthony Gose was 3-4 and was hit by a pitch with AA watching. Jim Negrych also had three hits. Luis Jimenez hit the Bisons first and only home run.

Justin Germano started and put a lot of men on but avoided a disaster inning.

Reading 0 New Hampshire 9

Austin Bibbens-Dirkx got the win with with six shutout innings. "Bibby" has made more AAA starts than AA starts in his career but his AAA ERA is 6 while his AA ERA is 3 plus. Offensively Kenny Wilson had a hit in each of his first three AB's and finished 3-5. Brad Glenn had two hits. Every starter other than Kevin Pillar had a hit. John Tolisano and Ryan Schimpf each had a HR.

Clearwater 2 Dunedin 4

Dunedin had 12 hits and Jesse Hernandez shut down the Phillies. An encouraging start for Marcus Knecht and Michael Crouse who both had multi-hit games as they repeat in the FSL. Kevin Patterson had three hits and Gabe Jacobo had two. Jon Berti had a home run.

Lansing 4 Lake County 5

Lansing outhit Lake County but the bullpen spoiled a good start from Javier Avendano. Daniel Norris came on with the Lugnuts up 4-1. Norris gave up two runs in the sixth and then Norris walked the lead off hitter in the seventh. Wil Browning came on allowed two runs to score. Avendano pitched five innings.

The cold weather in April is supposed to be bad for latino hitters, But Balbini, Emilio Guerrero and Ronny Melendez led the offense with two hits each. Balbino hit the Luggies only home run.

Three Stars

#1 - Anthony Gose

#2 - Kenny Wilson

#3 - Marcus Knecht

I am exceedingly worried about Daniel Norris.

Post-game, Bisons boss Marty Brown compared Gose to Grady Sizemore: "Grady was a manager's dream. This guy is better than Grady." #jays

Tolisano played second and Schimpf played third for the F-Cats last night.  Tolisano is 24 years old and still in double A, but if he can master the strike zone, he has a chance to be a valuable utility player.

"This guy is better than Grady."

To see where Marty is coming from, you have to learn to separate the signal from the noise. The noise being: batting average, slugging percentage, strikeouts, and on-base percentage; the signal being arm strength and congeniality.

Of course, Sizemore was a better offensive prospect objectively.  He hit .287/.360/.438 in Buffalo when he was one year younger than Gose is now (and did not have the contact issue at any point in his minor league career that Gose has).  Gose might be considerably better in the field.

What Marty Brown was saying is that the subjective factors that impact on development- focus, self-discipline...were very positive for Sizemore and even more positive for Gose.  These factors matter;  the career of Delmon Young to date illustrates why.

If all goes well for Gose, he might end up something like Devon White, but with a little less D and a little more O (because he will probably take more walks).

I may be a dupe but I bought the spin that last year Kenny Wilson was finally healthy & he's always used his speed smartly - He's one of my sleeper prospects that I'm expecting a breakout year from & with Melky Cabrera signed for only 2 yrs, it would be good timing.
That Buffalo team  is loaded with AAA players - the jays want to impress with a big 1st season

I agree about Kenny Wilson. It's not only that he is finally healthy but is no longer switch hitting.. He began to hit his stride last season and if he continues with a good season this year, he becomes a real prospect.
