In tha AL Wild Card, it was Jason Frasor, Winning Pitcher. Tonight, Travis Snider gets his moment on a Big Stage,

Travis, at age 26, put together a very strong second half and has finally seized hold of the Pirates RF job. Just in time, as Gregory Polanco is breathing down his neck. Snider's pitching debut earlier this season didn't go all that well, though he was better than Brad Mills.

Old chum Marco Scutaro has spent almost the entire season on the DL with back miseries (he played briefly back in July), but he's still on the Giants roster. That's about it for former Jays on these teams.

Meanwhile, the Giants starting pitcher hit .258/.286/.470 this season, with 4 HRs in 66 ABs - I may have to reassess my statement that he's not as good a hitter as any Toronto second baseman. Granted, Bumgarner's never hit this well before. But still, he now sports a career line of .166/.208/.255 - if I asked which was Goins and which was Bumgarner, you wouldn't know.

Would you.

Magpie, you forgot about Guillermo Quiroz, who is on San Francisco's playoff roster for the Wild Card game and Brent Morel, who was briefly a Jay this offseason, is on Pittsburgh's roster I believe.

Sadly that was not up to the standard of the night before. Nice of you to show up Pittsburgh.

So, what would be more painful, the Jays missing the playoffs again or doing what Pittsburgh did last night?  3 innings of fun, then a grand slam to kill enthusiasm, then another run in the 6th, 2 in the7th, another in the 8th.

It would likely have been a one and done for the Jays because (much like Pittsburgh) we don't have that ace to throw out there. I guess it would have been Marcus Stroman for us? Maybe Buerhle.

But to answer your question: give me the one game playoff any day of the week because it really isn't the "one and done" that you suggest. It comes with at least 15 more exciting playoff style games throughout September.

Pittsburgh all the way. The Pirates got their chance. They can at least feel they accomplished something.

Well this one has been going according to the script.  At least so far.

Was quite surprised to hear that Brendan Crawford's grand slam was the first in mlb history in the postseason by a SS. There have been 58 of them. Even a couple of pitchers have hit one (McNally, Cuellar). Nice win for my Giants over the Pirates, but the Nationals will be really tough with that great starting staff, plus Soriano, Clippard, Storen, Thornton and others in the 'pen. Peavy and Hudson are going to have to pitch really well, along with Bumgarner, cause the Giants aren't going to score much. Sure would be nice to have Matt Cain.

I just looked up SF's recent rotation history. Their starters have been healthy for many years. Luck or what?
The 2010 Jay's rotation gave me a lot of hope for the future. Marcum, Romero, Cecil & Morrow were all young and had good years. We also had Zep & Litsch expected to come back. We should have been set. Instead we lost everyone.
