Vlad Guerrero Jr. had to leave his game today as he aggravated his leg injury. Before he left he picked up two hits but the excitement came after he left. The Fisher Cats came back to tie the game late and then get a walk off win thanks to a throwing error. Lansing received shutout pitching to beat division rivals Bowling Green 2-0. It was a quiet night on the farm for both Buffalo and Dunedin who lost 4-1 and 3-1 respectively. The best performance for Buffalo was by Rowdy Tellez who had a couple of extra base hits including a home run off a rehabbing Jordan Zimmerman.

Buffalo

The Bisons had to face Jordan Zimmerman who was making a rehab start. He held the hitters to three hits in 4.1 innings but the hitters were no more successful against the bullpen. They ended with five hits. Rowdy Tellez had two of the hits, a double and a home run. The home run was the only Bisons run in a 4-1 loss. The home run by Tellez came off Zimmerman. Danny Jansen and Lourdes Gurriel also got a hit off the major leaguer.

Chris Rowley started and went seven innings. He allowed nine hits, one walk and recorded four strikeouts. All four runs were his responsibility although one was unearned.

New Hampshire

The Fisher Cats trailed 5-0 in the middle of the fifth. The came back to tie it in the bottom of the eighth. But Andrew Case was talken deep in the top of the ninth to amke it a 6-5 game. Akron then decided to be generous. Jonathan Davis was hit leading off the inning. Bo Bichette walked then Gunnar Heidt was askd to bunt the runners over. The bunt was out in front of the plate and the Akron pitcher jumped on it and tried to get the force at third base. The ball missed the fielder and ended up down the left field line. Both runners scored to give New Hampshire a 7-6 win. Patrick Cantwell got the rally started with a two run home run in the fifth. Gunnar Heidt and Harold Ramirez had RBI doubles in the eighth.

Jon Harris had started and did not pitch well, not getting out of the fifth. In 4.1 innings he had seven K's (good), one walk but eight hits. Danny Young and Zach Jackson both pitched well in relief. Bo Bichette was 2-4 and is hitting .278. Cavan Biggio was 2-3 with a walk. Jonathan Davis, Gunnar Heidt and Aledmys Diaz each had two hits. strong>Danny Young

You may have heard that Vlad Jr. was injured and took himself out of the game after running to second. You may not have known that Vlad had hot hit at his usual torrid pace over the last ten days or so. In his last nine games before Wednesday, Vlad was 8 for 34, a .235 average. It is uncertain whether his sore hamstring played a part or not.

Dunedin

The Jays outhit Charlotte 6-3 but lost 3-1. Yennsy Diaz gave up all three runs but pitched well. He gave up a two run home run to prospect Brendan McKay in the first then a walk, a single and a ground out made it 3-0 in the second. Diaz was mainly threes, three hits, three walks, three runs in six innings. Diaz had five K's. Andy Ravel pitched two perfect innings in relief.

The Jays scored their only run without a hit. Nash Knight reached on an error, moved upon a wild pitch and a fly ball and scored on another fly ball. Bradley Jones led the offense with two hits, his bat was been warming up. Kevin Smith has been struggling in Dunedin so he got the night off. The Jays did not have an extra base hit.

Lansing

Lansing went into Bowling Green yesterday trailing their opponents by one game. With two wins they now lead by one game and their playoff magic number is down to five with eleven games left. Three pitchers combined on a six hitter. Colton Laws went five innings, Kyle Weatherly and Claudio Custodio each pitched two.

The Lugnuts scored their first run in the sixth with three singles from Matt Morgan, Kevin Vicuna and Chavez Young with the RBI. The insurance run came in the eighth, Reggie Pruitt singled, stole a base and scored when Norberto Obeso singled.

And in the DSL game, Miguel Hiraldo went 4 for 5 with 3 doubles, plus a walk, in an 11-10 loss. He's now hitting .438 with an OPS of 1.151. Nice to see the highly rated prospect getting off to a great start in his pro career.

If I remember correctly, Hiraldo was the top rated hitter in last year's international draft.

Question about how to test if matured prospects -- batters especially -- are good enough for MLB.
For Triple-A Buffalo, Jordan Zimmermann rehab start had been known before the match. Can the manager put out an lineup with all the matured prospects plus veterans who needed PAs so their capabilities against MLB pitching are put to the test? For example, Buffalo starting lineup against Zimmermann would have been the following:Dwight Smith Roemon Fields Ian Parmley left to right on the outfieldSweeney Gurriel Jr. Leblebijian Tellez left to right on the infield.
McGuire and Jansen C and DHPutting as many lefthanded batting prospects and matured prospects as possible.

Chavez Young is 1/1 so far tonight. His average is up to .335, his OPS is nearing .900, and his wRC+ was 141 entering tonight's game. His offensive stats have been improving month over month this year. Is he in line for a promotion to Dunedin after the Midwest League All-Star Game on June 19?

The Jays could have a nice lineup in 2020 and beyond with a core of Bichette, Jansen, Guerrero Jr., Smith, Biggio, Teoscar, and Alford. Maybe also one or more of Young, Pompey, and Large. Hopefully Grichuk is a useful player at that point as well.
