It was a no-win Tuesday that included a walk-off defeat. New Hampshire was rained out. #LetsGoBlueJays

Pawtucket 6 Buffalo 4

Jacob Waguespack was whacked for six runs over 4-1/3 innings, giving up a three-run home run to Rusney Castillo. That was among seven hits and a walk issued by the Aaron Loup trade acquisition. He struck out four and got five groundball outs. Dusty Isaacs stranded a runner and got the final two outs of the fifth and added two more scoreless frames on top of that. His only blemish was a plunked batter. Zach Jackson worked a clean eighth and Danny Barnes struck out two to offset a hit in the ninth.

Anthony Alford tripled and scored on a wild pitch for the first Herd run in the fourth. Jordan Patterson doubled home runs in the seventh and ninth and Patrick Cantwell singled home Patterson in the seventh for the other three runs. Patterson also swiped a base. Alford, Eric Sogard and Andy Burns all had two hits with Burns drawing a walk. Bo Bichette, Cavan Biggio and Roemon Fields also had hits. Fields is hitting .409 so far this year but has not attempted to steal yet this season.

Reading at New Hampshire

Postponed - Doubleheader set for May 13.

Fort Myers 1 Dunedin 0

Nate Pearson faced the minimum through two innings with two strikeouts but was replaced by Graham Spraker who surrendered two hits and a walk but struck out two over 3-2/3 innings. Emerson Jimenez stranded two Spraker runners and gave up just one hit over 2-1/3 innings. Matt Shannon took the loss when 2018 number one pick Royce Lewis singled, went to second on a wild pitch and scored a couple of base hits.

Demi Orimoloye and Kevin Vicuna had two hits each at the bottom of the order. Riley Adams walked and was hit twice. Again, the man is a black belt in karate! He's going to snap one of these days! Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Christian Williams both singled and walked. Cal Stevenson was 0-for-5 while Logan Warmoth and Ryan Noda went 0-for-4. Warmoth hit into a double play and Noda struck out with the bases loaded in the eighth.

West Michigan 7 Lansing 6

The Lugnuts were down 7-2 at one point before making a game of it.

Josh Winckowski made it threw just two innings and threw 50 pitches to do it. He gave up a run on five hits and a walk with two strikeouts. FutureBlueJays.com noted Winckowski took a ground ball off the leg or ankle and that may have also played a role in Winckowski's exit. McGregory Contreras kept the damage to one run by throwing out a runner at the plate from left field. Joey Pulido was pounded for six runs over two frames, giving up a two-run dinger in the third. After not allowing an earned run in 24-2/3 innings with Vancouver last year, Pulido gave up his first earned runs since July 13 when he was with Bluefield. Will McAffer struck out six but gave up two hits and three walks over 2-2/3 innings, leaving the bases for Connor Law but he left them loaded. Law walked walked only  one batter  while striking out five over the final 2-1/3 innings.

An RBI double by Reggie Pruitt (2nd) and an RBI single by Jake Brodt (3rd) proceeded a solo dinger by Alejandro Kirk in the fifth. Pruitt followed with a homer in the sixth and Johnny Aiello walked with the bases loaded later in the frame. A Nick Podkul walk and Dominic Abbadessa single with two outs brought Pruitt to the plate but he grounded out to end the game. Pruitt, Kirk and Jordan Groshans had two hits apiece. Brodt walked twice along with his base hit and Abbadessa reached thrice with a walk and a hit by pitch. Contreras had a hit and Aiello walked twice and stole a base. Podkul had two free passes but Hagen Danner was 0-for-5 and Ryan Gold was 0-for-1 in a pinch-hitting role.

*** 3 Stars!!! ***

3. Connor Law, Lansing

2. Jordan Patterson, Buffalo

Many great starts to the Minor league season so far. Bichette should start hitting soon.

The Jays recently signed RHPs Raudy Sanchez and Jonathan Bernal. I don't know anything about Bernal.

Pearson's removal after 2 perfect innings and 27 pitches was unusual.  He had thrown 5 innings and 79 pitches in his first outing.  Optimistically, he was removed because they've decided that he needs to face the double A test sooner rather than later.  It does seem early to do that given the vagaries of New England weather.  Anyone heard anything?

I just hope Pearson is not hurt. But that early removal is a mystery.

Buffalo postponed. Too cold. Dunedin at 1pm the other 2 at 6pm.

Pearson came out due to a weather delay.

A source tells @JesseSanchezMLB that Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is headed to the Triple-A @BuffaloBisons.

Ben Nicholson Smith says Pearson only pitched two innings because that was the clubs plan!
Mike Green - Wednesday, April 10 2019 @ 04:04 PM EDT (#372329) #
I liked the "Pearson left because of weather delay" explanation better!  True or not.
hypobole - Wednesday, April 10 2019 @ 04:28 PM EDT (#372332) #
If Pearson can avoid TJ as opposed to so many other young flamethrowers, "the plan" would get my vote.
Mike Green - Wednesday, April 10 2019 @ 04:37 PM EDT (#372333) #
Sure, hypobole, but why would you start out with 5 innings/79 pitches in the first outing and then scale back drastically in the second?  I'm sorry but it just doesn't seem like much of a plan.  I can see working up to 5 innings maybe and then missing a start or having a "relief-length" outing as a break.
PeterG - Wednesday, April 10 2019 @ 04:57 PM EDT (#372335) #
It was raining in Fort Myers last evening causing a delay. It may then have become the Jays plan to limit Pearson due to weather conditions and extra warm ups. So, both explanations are probably correct.

I dunno, Mike, it's not my plan.

Two observations:

Mike, me thinks hypobole was speaking with his tongue slightly inserted in either his right or left cheek regarding his comments in support of "the plan." I could be wrong. My wife can vouch for that. Actually, she vouches for it quite frequently.

On to Molina business. Last year at Bluefield Alejandro Kirk AKA "A Molina In Training," or "Captain Kirk," slashed (god I hate how often that word is used!!!) an OPS of 1.001 in 206 at bats. This year with the Lugnuts he is "slashing" an OPS of 1.010 in 18 at bats. Ya - I know - SSS... but hey he might become a Molina and all Molina's are gods - or at least semi-gods.

I do love my Molinas, and Star Trek reruns.

Baseball America's latest mock draft has the Jays taking outfielder J.J. Bleday from Vanderbilt.
Shoeless Joe - Wednesday, April 10 2019 @ 09:04 PM EDT (#372345) #
The Jays love Cape Cod performers, so Bleday would make sense. It is a bit early for a mock draft, but I think that would be a great pick with how well he has hit this spring.

#2 and Shoeless where do you guys go for Prospects?Draft? I signed up with The Athletic mainly for John Sickels but not too much from him yet.
Shoeless Joe - Thursday, April 11 2019 @ 08:47 PM EDT (#372389) #
I basically follow all of the main sites minus anything Keith Law. I havenít committed to the athletic yet, but I always like sickels. For college stats I find baseballcube works best.

2080 Baseball and a fairly new site Prospects Live has some excellent minor league and draft scouting.
