New Hampshire 4 Hartford 0 Game Two

Vancouver 9 Hillsboro 5

Charlotte Buffalo PPD

Buffalo's game was postponed; New Hampshire won both games of a doubleheader, Dunedin lost, and Vancouver won.

Vancouver Canadians

Vancouver has returned to winning ways after a recent losing skid that saw them fall farther back in the Northwest League first-half race.

Wednesday marked their second straight win against the Hillsboro Hops, in which the team has scored 24 runs in two games. They have outscored opponents by a total of 42-11 as they won their fourth straight.

Three runs in the third and four in the fourth saw the Canadians put the Hops away early as Sean Keys's single allowed Victor Arias and Eddie Micheletti Jr. to score. Aaron Parker's double then scored Keys.

A Jackson Hornung double in the fourth allowed Cutter Coffey to cross home plate and push Je'Von Ward to third. Victor Arias' triple then scored Hornung and that made it 6-2.

Vancouver is now 21-26 with 19 games remaining in the first half. The two teams play the third game of their series today at 7:05 PM PDT.

Buffalo Bisons

The Buffalo Clearwater game was postponed due to rain and will be made up today.

Buffalo is now 19-31 on the season. The two teams start their doubleheader today at 11:05 AM ET.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The Fisher Cats won both games of their doubleheader against the Hartford Yard Goats Wednesday by scores of 7-6 and 4-0.

The seventh and final frame of Game One allowed the Fisher Cats to win this one as a Devonte Brown double scored RJ Schreck and Jace Bohrofen.

The highlight of Game Two was a three-run shot by RJ Schreck in the bottom of the fourth to make it 4-0 for the Fisher Cats. New Hampshire's pitching was able to close the door the rest of the way.

New Hampshire and Hartford play today at 7:10 PM ET.

Dunedin Blue Jays

The Dunedin Blue Jays were 7-1 losers Wednesday to the Clearwater Threshers.

Their lone run came in the fifth when Jean Joseph scored, but the Blue Jays stranded Lizandro Rodriguez on third.

Dunedin and Clearwater play today at 6:30PM ET.

wanted to look at just the guys we got at the deadline last year....

Guys who reached MLB:

* OF J.Clase 23 - MLB: 61pa, 128wrc+ --- AAA: 252pa, 94wrc+

Just turned 23 this month, so very young for all his levels so far. Looks to have real mlb upside, though he might not stick fulltime yet.

* IF W.Wagner 26 - MLB: 154pa, 93wrc+ --- AAA: 61pa, 147wrc+ - (injured for the past month)

Really like this guy but after a great start last year he stunk to start this year then got injured.

* OF J.Loperfido 26 - MLB: 144pa, 61wrc+ --- AAA: 194pa, 106wrc+

Never liked this guy. Not surprised to see him be bad.

Guys who reached AAA:

* RHP J.Bloss 24 - 51.0ip, 147era-, 118fip-, 118xfip-

Hasn't actually turned 24 yet, but will next month. So he's still been youngish for his levels. But he's been terrible since the trade, which is his only AAA experience. He was dominant at the other levels before Houston fastracked him to MLB for some emergency starts tho. But now he's blown out his elbow so he's gone for a year.

* IF J.Rivera 24 - AAA: 93pa, 119wrc+ --- AA: 161pa, 30wrc+

Hilariously useless in AA, but then bumped to AAA due to injuries and has been good. maybe a future as a bench IF.

Guys who reached AA:

* OF Schreck 24 - AA: 259pa, 163wrc+

I like this guy, but he's old for that level. No reason for him to still be in AA tbh. Jays are holding onto some older mediocrities in AAA right now that are kinda blocking up the system. A bit annoying.

* OF Y.Pinango 23 - AA: 309pa, 123wrc+

Just turned 23 this month. Not really old for the level yet but really should be promoted to AAA as well already.

* IF C.McAdoo 23 - AA: 283pa, 75wrc+

Huge disappointment for me. He was putting up near elite numbers at each level, including AA, with pittsburgh, and then immediately imploded after the trade. He was so bad that they finally had to send him down to the florida complex to try and sort out his swing - good news is that in the 3gms since he came back from that stint he has a 208wrc+. so maybe there's some hope still.

* IF E.Paulino 22 - AA: 113pa, 106wrc+

Holding his own at the appropriate level.

* IF J.Harry 22 - AA: 84pa, 69wrc+ --- A+: 160pa, 101wrc+

Not a write off yet but not good either.

* C J.Sharp 23 - AA: 79pa, 47wrc+ --- A+: 96pa, 102wrc+

Really struggling this year. And a bit old for the level.

Guys who reached A+:

* IF C.Coffey 21 - A+: 259pa, 88wrc+

Just holding his own. Struggled last year while young for the level but is about league average this year at the appropriate age.

Guys who reached A:

* RHP G.Batista 20 - A: 57.3ip, 78era-, 114fip-, 81xfip-

Looks like a legit prospect here.

Not looking great as a group right now but not bad either. Could look much better if Wagner could come back from injury hitting again, and if a guy like Schreck gets promoted and succeeds in AAA.

Although not quite at the deadline, the trade of Biggio to the Dodgers for Fisher looks like the best of the deals so far. It follows one of my beliefs - if you are trading for very little, make the very little a AAA/AA reliever who throws hard or a Rookie ball lottery ticket.
uglyone - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 12:49 PM EDT (#460555) #
ah yes for sure he should definitely be included.

Great arm. the one worry spot on his milb record was too many walks - but he's had that under control this year in both AAA and MLB. If that's a real improvement and not just a blip, he might be real good for us.

Pre-Trade:

* 2022 A+ (21): 47.3ip, 30.3k%, 17.5bb%, 114era-, 95fip-, 115xfip-
* 2023 AA (22): 61.0ip, 31.3k%, 14.1bb%, 63era-, 100fip-, 85xfip-
* 2024 AA (23): 7.3ip, 40.0k%, 14.3bb%, 92era-, 39fip-, 61xfip-
* 2024 AAA (23): 11.7ip, 29.1k%, 18.2bb%, 139era-, 72fip-, 102xfip-

Since trade:

* 2024 AA (23): 16.3ip, 36.6k%, 9.9bb%, 70era-, 71fip-, 76xfip-
* 2024 AAA (23): 18.3ip, 22.8k%, 15.2bb%, 136era-, 106fip-, 125xfip-
* 2025 AAA (24): 11.3ip, 29.8k%, 8.5bb%, 53era-, 48fip-, 72xfip-
* 2025 MLB (24): 8.3ip, 44.4k%, 3.7bb%, 0era-, 11fip-, 28xfip-
Super Bluto - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 02:36 PM EDT (#460560) #
time to call up Will Robertson.
Glevin - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 03:19 PM EDT (#460561) #
Jays did really well in the trade deadline considering that they really only traded a couple of players with value and nobody with a ton of value.

Robertson is now on fire. It does look like he made some real changes this year. 7 HRs, .916 OPS. This is how crazy the Jays upper minors OF logjam is. This is considering Varsho, Springer, Santander, Lukes, and Straw as major league OF (and Barger capable).
Clase: (in majors and not playing much). 127 WRC+ in AAA, just turned 23. Should be playing regularly in AAA.
Robertson: .916 OPS in AAA, probably deserves a major league chance.
Roden: 194 WRC+ in AAA. Should be back in majors.
Loperfido: OPS over .800 in May. Should be playing regularly in AAA
Schneider: .759 OPS in May. Should also be playing regularly in AAA.
Pinango:179 WRC+ in AA. Should be playing regularly in AAA
Schreck: 171 WRC+ in AA. Should be playing regularly in AAA.

The issue is that there isn't really deadweight here you can just jettison. Schneider is probably first to go but he also has had major league success and is flexible defensively and isn't really someone you just want to DFA or give up on. None of these prospects are interesting enough to get you that much in a trade (maybe Roden) either. My preference would be to try to trade one or two of these guys (not Roden) for prospects lower in the system who don't need to be on 40-man for a year or two. Plenty of teams are looking for cheap major league talent.
Marc Hulet - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 03:24 PM EDT (#460562) #
The Jays development staff hasn't really looked good based on the performances of the prospects coming over from the deadline. Or maybe the pro scouting just isn't very good.
Glevin - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 03:54 PM EDT (#460563) #
"The Jays development staff hasn't really looked good based on the performances of the prospects coming over from the deadline. Or maybe the pro scouting just isn't very good."

Or, maybe the most valuable guy they traded was a #3/4 starter on an expiring contract and expecting to get back a lot of top prospects for a bunch of not much is not realistic. They traded Kikuchi, Garcia, Pearson, Turner, Richards, IKF all of whom except for IKF and Pearson had expiring contracts and Jays didn't want IKF's contract for 2025 anyway and wanted to be rid of Pearson. The fact that they got a few interesting guys from that group is good. I mean, Schreck and Pinango have been amazing in AA and they got them for Justin Turner and Nate Pearson. That's pretty great.

GabrielSyme - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 05:12 PM EDT (#460568) #
Will Robertson definitely had himself a day: did the Bo thing and hit a pinch-hit, 2-out ninth inning home run, then followed it up in the second half of the double header by going 2-3 with a HR and BB. His EVs for the day were: 104.5, 100.6, 109.5 & 109.6, which would be a nice day at the office even for Vlad.
Nigel - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 05:25 PM EDT (#460569) #
I sort of agree with both Marc and Glevin. There was a lot of volume but little quality moved out by the Jays last deadline so the expectations of return have to be viewed in that light. I thought that the return for Kikutchi wasn't very good and reflected a desire for a return that emphasized the possibility of immediate help to the Jays rather than the overall quality of return. Now, if you didn't think much of Kikutchi or thought highly of Bloss then your mileage may vary on that.
Kelekin - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 05:35 PM EDT (#460570) #
From a "ceiling" perspective, the highest ceiling guy the Jays got last year was probably Clase. Coffey was in that boat too. But also the highest risk profiles. I feel all things considered what they got back was a pretty balanced mix between ceiling and floor; I don't think any of those outgoing guys were going to bring back better hauls than what we got, but it would've been nice to see more lower minors darts. The Jays have done well identifying interesting players like that in the past (such as Pinto and Duran).

uglyone - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 05:42 PM EDT (#460572) #
I don't think the group looks bad.

2 guys are helping the big team right now and i wouldn't be surprised if half the group turned into useful mlb pieces in the next couple years.

Don't think there's any real topend talent in there but i think we knew that on deadline day.

Geoff Pontes of BA lists Schreck as one of "10 MLB Hitting Prospects Who Stood Out in May."

Among other things, he notes that "over the last year-plus, Schreck has been among the most productive hitters in the minor leagues, with a .256/.388/.483 line and 146 wRC+. So far in 2025, he is hitting .270/.386/.549 with nine home runs—good enough for a 171 wRC+ and placing him among the most productive hitters in Double-A."
GabrielSyme - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 06:25 PM EDT (#460576) #
I think the return looks worse with Bloss out for the year with UCL surgery. He was generally regarded as the best single guy we received.

On the whole, we traded a lot of rentals and marginal players and most of the guys who haven't looked particularly good (Josh Rivera, Cutter Coffey, Jacob Sharp, Jay Harry, Loperfido) were either secondary returns or, in Harry's case a return for a very marginal player (Trevor Richards) traded mainly for salary relief. McAdoo, the return for Kiner-Falefa, has been the biggest disappointment, hopefully he's turning it around.
Kelekin - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 06:54 PM EDT (#460577) #
Good to see the rosters; seems like DSL Blue will be treated as the "more experienced" roster, and DSL Red as the newbies. We'll see if that's the case in future years.

Some returning names to watch - Juarlin Soto, Randy Soto, Pascual Archila, and Franklin Rojas, with Rojas being the most intriguing of the bunch. Angel Rivero is a pitcher to watch.

Our top 4 picks in this year's IFA class were all drafted as middle infielders with "strong offensive profiles": Christopher Polanco, Juan Sanchez, Eleinaker Coronado, and Kennew Blanco.

Sanchez has slugger potential, so keep an eye on him.

Last year's DSL crop performed well. If we can have another year with some standouts, the international pipeline will finally look interesting again.
John Northey - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 09:28 PM EDT (#460587) #
I think we all need to remember what was traded away...
  • Yimi García: had 9 IP left in '24, 64 ERA+, 0.5 bWAR on the year
  • Danny Jansen: 96 PA, 77 OPS+, 0.1 bWAR (0.6 as a Jay)
  • Nate Pearson: 35 IP so far, 87 ERA+, 0.1 bWAR (-0.7 as a Jay in '24), 0 saves, 1 blown, 5 holds, 6 IR 4 scored. Cubs have him for 26 as well if they want him.
  • Justin Turner: 1.2 bWAR for Seattle (127 OPS+) after a 107 OPS+ here (bad for a DH)
  • Yusei Kikuchi: 0 WAR here, 1.3 for Houston (5-1 record 150 ERA+, very critical for them). 1-5 this year with a 133 ERA+ (what he gets for signing with the Angels).
  • Isiah Kiner-Falefa: 1.7 WAR over 382 PA (still in Pittsburgh for 2025) 81 OPS+ after a 3.2 WAR 115 OPS+ here (no one thought he'd keep that up).
  • Trevor Richards: 13 IP for the Twins 103 ERA+, 1 save, 0 holds, 0 blown, in AAA this year
  • Kevin Kiermaier: 0.1 WAR for LAD in 64 PA 59 OPS+ (54 here) then retired.
So Kikuchi & Turner did anything of value, and Turner for that had a LOT of trouble getting a job this year. IKF solid for the Pirates but wouldn't have much to do here. Resigned Garcia, probably the best idea for who to bring back in the end.

Clase alone might provide more value to the Jays than all of those guys combined would've in '24 (and '25 for IKF, '25/26 for Pearson). Pinango no one thought twice about last year, but dang in AA he is hitting 303/418/513 at age 23 as a LF/RF/DH. Wagner gave us 0.4 bWAR so far (very good '24, lousy '25). Schreck in AA at 24 270/386/549 in RF/DH/LF/CF. Loperfido didn't look like much last year, at 26 in AAA 266/349/402 gives some hope, but not much. Basically, Clase and the 2 in AA (Pinango/Schreck) could do all that was needed to make these deals work out in the Jays favor. If Bloss or anyone else makes it the Jays could be far ahead. They still could end up with a net flop, but not much was lost.

MLB.com Mock Draft

https://www.mlb.com/milb/news/mlb-pipeline-2025-mock-draft-may-29?t=mlb-draft-coverage

8. Blue Jays: Kyson Witherspoon, RHP, Oklahoma (No. 8)
The Blue Jays are one of the least likely teams in the top 10 to select Hernandez, so that would leave them with the other upper-tier talent still available. In this case, it's Witherspoon. They also could wind up with Willits or Carlson if the first seven picks play out differently.
greenfrog - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 09:56 PM EDT (#460589) #
High school pitchers make me nervous as high draft picks — think Phil Bickford and Brandon Barriera — but the Blue Jays did have some luck with a HS pitcher named Halladay, so I guess I shouldn’t prejudge the idea.
greenfrog - Thursday, May 29 2025 @ 10:11 PM EDT (#460590) #
Schreck was 2/3 tonight with a double and a walk. Now hitting .280/.396/.560 on the season. Stellar numbers.

Glevin - Friday, May 30 2025 @ 08:44 AM EDT (#460592) #
Really think Jays need to take a hitter with first pick. Hopefully, one of Arquette, Carlson, or Willits drops and if not, they go under slot. They are in bad need of hitting prospects and not having a second rounder means they have one shot at getting a good hitting prospect.
Kelekin - Friday, May 30 2025 @ 11:28 AM EDT (#460603) #
"If I could do it all over, I would name one of my sons (maybe both) Yohendrick."

You could name one Yohendrick, and the other one Heyarnold.

Speaking of trades, the early returns on Houston's decision to move Tucker is looking pretty good:

Paredes .262/.363/.466 1.9war - leads the team in R, HR, and RBI
Smith .267/.344/.397 1.3war - ('24 first rounder)
Wesneski has made 6 starts with a 4.50era over 32ip

They have Paredes through '27 and the rookies through '29/'30.
