I don't think it's going to be good news on Yesavage. If the MRI was clean, we'd already know by now. I'm guessing it's a meniscus issue, and it's either rest or surgery -- 4 to 6 vs. 6 to 8 weeks recovery... something like that. Either way, I can't see this being good news at this point.

Jays scored 19 runs in their past 6 games and still managed to win 4.

The next stretch of 17gms is very tough. But the last 5 weeks are much easier.

They can afford toblose this stretch but not by very much.

John Schneider says Trey Yesavage has an injury to the meniscus in his left knee and will visit a specialist Monday to determine next steps.

Surgery "is always a possibility," when a player sees a specialist, said Schneider. "We're obviously hoping to avoid that."

Vladimir Guerrero Jr. not in the Blue Jays lineup again as manager John Schneider the feeling was another day made sense for him.

"He's feeling better, there's no injury there," said Schneider. "It's just a little bit of tightness (in his hamstring) still."

That's too bad about Yesavage; I think they will shut him down for the rest of the season, regardless of what happens next. Even if this is a best-case scenario, he's probably several weeks away from throwing again and at least another few weeks of rehab; Minor league seasons are over in 7 weeks and the MLB playoffs start 8 weeks from today. If we were a high-percentage playoff team, maybe there would be different conversations, but I think they'll focus on having him healthy for opening day 2027.

At this stage it makes sense to set Yesavage down for 2026. 93 2/3 IP in the majors is a nice rookie season. 123 ERA+. Last year was 14 IP in the majors, 27 2/3 in the playoffs, 98 in the minors = 139 2/3 IP in '25. Was hoping for 150 this year, but guess not. He did seem to be hitting a wall lately with 3 of his last 5 games being 4 IP or less each. So it might be for the best to shut him down now.

Also makes sense to shut Vlad down until he is 110% healthy.

I'm not the most analytically inclined with MLB, but here goes:

"negative WAR means below replacement level." = True

"replacement level is league average" = True

"negative WAR means below replacement level which (change "which" for "and replacement level" is league average." I think that's what he meant.

Of course he's still wrong. If I understand correctly, negative WAR mean's you're below replacement level but that's not average. Average would be 2 WAR - 2.5 WAR or somewhere thereabouts.

I don't know now I'm second guessing myself.

False. A replacement-level player is a theoretical below-average minor leager or free agent that a team can acquire for little to no cost (like the league minimum salary or a Triple-A call-up). This player defines the baseline of 0 WAR.

That right there is why you can't expect a winning streak with an offense that can't score runs and leaves a million runners on base. Your pitching will eventually normalize too.

This will be an excruciatingly frustrating loss if they can’t pull this out.

This offense is terrible and has zero upside aside from Vlad (who looks shot this year) and Kirk (who is heating up). It's one thing if there were young guys around the diamond that you could maybe dream on, but it's literally Gimenez, Lukes, Clement, Straw, Okamoto, Smith, Schneider, Urias, etc. Wasted an incredible start from Cease against pitchers with 5+ ERA's who they should have definitely scored more than 2 runs against.

He and Heineman have each lost a game on an error and Hoffman has lost a game pretty much throwing the ball away so I count 3 games. I still thing there's a good chance they catch that 3rd wild card.
