Clearwater 6 Dunedin 5

Somerset 5 New Hampshire 3

Somerset 6 New Hampshire 1

Eugene 8 Vancouver 1

Buffalo 14 Worcester 1

Dunedin and New Hampshire lost, so did Vancouver. Buffalo were the only winners Wednesday.

Buffalo Bison

Usually we lead with the Vancouver Canadians but with Max Scherzer rehabbing in Buffalo it seeem appropriate to lead with the Bisons as they were 14-1 winners Wednesday against the Worcester Red Sox.

Scherzer went 4 1/3 innings with eight strikeouts and one hit while Nathan Lukes had five RBI’s to go with three hits, a home run and one run as the Bisons racked up 11 runs between the second and fifth innings.

Adam Kloffenstein also tossed 4 innings allowing three hits and the lone Worcester run in the sixth off a Blaze Jordan homer. He had three strikeouts and a walk as well.

Buffalo is now 29-40 on the season. The two teams play again today at 6:45 PM ET.

Vancouver Canadians

The Vancouver Canadians are in pursuit of the Northwest League first half crown but lost Wednesday 8-1 to the Eugene Emeralds, thereby ending their 11 game win streak.

Eugene took a 2-0 lead with a two out single, wild pitch and another base hit then tacked on three consecutive two out hits before Vancouver ended the inning.

Victor Arias got the C’s lone run in the eight, running home on a Cutter Coffey single after reaching base on a double.

Vancouver sits tied with the Everett Aquasox for first place in the Northwest but Everett holds the tiebreaker on them. The Canadians will need the Spokane Indians to beat Everett and they need to beat Eugene today in order to clinch the first half.

The C’s and Emeralds play the third game of their series today at 6:35 PM PDT.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats

The Fisher Cats lost both games of their double header to the Someset Patriots Wednesday by scores of 5-3 and 6-1.

New Hampshire did lead 3-1 after four innings of the first game but the Patriots Roc Riggio two-run homer tied the game at three in the top of th fifth.

The Fisher Cats squandered a triple in the bottom of the fifth and then Brendan Jones’s triple scored Garrett Martin for the Patriots in their half the sixth to take the lead 4-3. They would add another run in the seventh to win 5-3.

June 17th’s make up game was no better for the Fisher Cats as Dylan Jasso’s double scored three for the Patriots making it 4-0 in the bottom of the third.

Spencer Jones homer scoring George Lombard Jr. made it 6-1 in the top of the seventh and the Fisher Cats couldn’t muster any offence to end the game.

New Hampshire and Somerset play today at 6:35 PM ET.

Dunedin Blue Jays

Dunedin lost 6-5 to the Clearwater Threshers on Wednesday night in a game that went extra innings.

The two teams were tied at 2-2 and traded single runs in the 10th inning before Clearwater scored three in the bottom of the 11th to win.

Dunedin and Clearwater play today at 6:30 PM ET.

When you listen to BA talk about the Jays pitchers they rave about how good Brandon Barriera has looked in his rehab. However, today Barriera was unable to get out of the first inning for the second straight start. I did say last week that the path back from surgery is uneven. I am not sure what the issue is with him.

Wagner has come back strong from injury, albeit it's only 4gms.

But since return: 21pa, 9.5b%, 9.5k%, .353bip, .316avg, .211iso, 143wrc+

Control. Today it was BB, HBP, K, wild pitch, wild pitch, single on a 2-0 pitch, flyout, single. Not worried at this point at all about that. He's pitched 23 innings in the last 3 years.

Would be nice if Wagner could recover and play well enough to replace one of the gazillion 4th & 5th OFs on the 26-man.

There's not really a starting role for Will Wagner on the team. But he's of the age as well that he's not really a prospect either and there isn't much development left at Buffalo.

It would be nice to have another IF option off the bench.

The Jays were playing dangerously yesterday with Clase and Straw banged up, Kirk at DH & Heineman catching and a bench of 4 OFs.

Barger can be brought in to play third, Schneider can play 2B (and theoretically a healthy Straw is an emergency 2B).

But it's not good for matchups or injuries or substitutions when you are playing without a backup IF on the bench for essentially all 4 positions.
