New Hampshire were the only winners on Wednesday. Cutter Coffey had a nice game. Pitching was the dominant story on the day. Prospects Landen Maroudis, Silvano Hechavarria and Gilberto Batista all had bad days. Gage Stanifer did OK but threw more balls that strikes. CJ Van Eyk put Buffalo in a position to win but the bullpen blew it.

NOTES

The Jays have signed several pitchers recently to fill gaps in their rosters. One of them is Matt Bowman who was signed earlier this week. Bowman has 240 major league innings with seven organizations. He made his Jays debut on Wednesday and he did not make a good first impression. He came in to pitch the ninth with the Bisons leading 6-4. By the time he left the Bisons were losing 7-6 and that's how it ended. CJ Van Eyk started, went six innings, three runs, six hits, three K's.

Buffalo had a pair of two run home runs from Riley Tirotta and William Simoneit. David Schneider singled, doubled and walked three times.

The Fisher Cats had 12 hits in scoring seven runs. Cutter Coffey doubled and homered and drove in three. His home run came in the second inning to give NH the lead and his double in the fourth stretched that lead. Eddie Micheletti went 3-5 and he too homered. The Cats had a third home run from Jackson Hornung.

Gage Stanifer continues to work on his command. He threw 85 pitches, 42 strikes and 43 balls. He walked four in five innings. Overall he struck out three while holding Somerset to one run on three hits. Mason Olson followed and struck out five in three innings. Another new pitcher to the org did make a good first impression. Sam Gardner had a 1-2-3 ninth.

It wasn't a good night for Vancouver pitchers. Landen Maroudis got through three innings OK with one home run allowed but Eugene scored four more off him in the fourth. Maroudis was done after that, five runs in four innings pushed his ERA up to 5.82. His ERA in April was 1.69, in May it is 9.50. Gilberto Batista followed and Eugene hit a grand slam off him in his first inning.

Edward Duran was back with the C's for his first game since April 8th, he went hitless and had two passed balls. JR Freethy and Alexis Hernandez each hit a two run home run and singled.

Silvano Hechavarria just cannot find the form he had last season. He was charged with five runs, four earned in 1.2 innings and his ERA is now 10.64. The bullpen put gas on the fire so that ended with catcher Juan Rosas pitching the eighth inning.

Dunedin did have 12 hits. Juan Sanchez continued his recent hot play with three hits including a double. Aldo Gaxiola who is also heating up, he also had three hits. Adam Hackenberg homered and drove in three runs. Sam Shaw is now with Dunedin and he had two hits. Jojo Parker doubled. While Sanchez is hitting well he made two more errors and now has 12 on the season.

Love the title Gerry. Also thanks to you and others who do these write ups on the minors. They really enrich the understanding of the Jay’s team and the organization as a whole.

So with the return of Duran to A+ and Shaw to A in the last couple days it looks like finally all the injured hitting prospects are back playing at the level they were supposed to be at to start the year i think - and man there were a bunch of good hitting prospects injured.

Arias
Pinto
Sanchez
Duran
Shaw
Cook
(Clase)

the only other interesting hitting prospect that i can think of that's still out is Jake Casey, who I like, but others might not.

Anyone else still out that i'm blanking on?

and now that i think of it Shaw was probably slotted to start the year at A+ this year, not A, so we're not quite all the way back yet.

L Maroudis had a great 5 game April. Unfortunately the 5 May games were very bad. Starting 2026 in Vancouver was a huge promotion and he has handled it ok.

Lazaro Estrada went on the 60 day IL today so naturally he takes the mound for Dunedin tonight as his rehab starts.

I don't think he's interesting as a prospect, but from a "what the heck is he doing?" perspective, Je'Von Ward is kinda fascinating. Last year, in high-A, he took the art of not swinging to impressive heights (32% swing rate), walking at a 28% clip. Having performed creditably in New Hampshire, but looking like a normal player, he's now in Buffalo, where he's suddenly swinging out of his boots (51% swing rate), not walking (well, more than Lenyn Sosa) and generating more power than every before (he hit his 4th home run today in 64 ABs, .266 ISO in AAA).

He signed out of high school all the way back in 2017, and didn't get to AA until last year, so it would be pretty fun if he actually got a cup of coffee. He certainly appears to be trying every possible approach to find success.

Yes, I have been watching Ward recently. What I noticed is that when he gets to a team/level he is a part time player and then slowly he becomes a regular because of performance. Give him another month or two and see if he is a regular starter in AAA.

I am also looking at Jay Harry who seems to be on a similar trajectory.

Beat me to it Gerry. Harry in May has 2 walks and 16 K's. But in 80 May AB's he has 27 hits, including 7 doubles, 2 triples and 6 HR's for a .338/.349/.700 line.
