NOTES

Shane Bieber made the rehab start for Buffalo and he pitched better than the other rehabbing starters. Bieber shutout the Mets over five innings, five hits, one walk, four K's. That's about as good as could be expected. His fastball was in the 91-92 mph range. Lazaro Estrada and Chad Dallas, back from the majors, followed.

Buffalo scored three runs in the fifth inning. Carlos Mendoza hit a two run home run, Sean Keys singled and Jon Clase doubled him home. The Bisons had seven hits total, Josh Rivera had two.

Jake Bloss was on the mound for New Hampshire after rehabbing in Florida. Bloss had a mixed outing. He did strike out six in 3.2 innings but Hartford did score three runs on four hits. One of the hits was a two run home run. Jackson Wentworth went four innings, he allowed two runs, one earned.

NH had just two hits through five innings. But in the sixth Victor Arias and Aaron Parker hit back to back solo home runs. Jorge Burgos then doubled and later scored on a ground out. But that was it, six hits total for NH.

Jace Bohrofen has gone on the IL, joining Arjun Nimmala.

It was Johnny King night in Vancouver. King was a little shaky in this game, he had a couple of baserunners on in every inning. In four innings he walked, four, struck out four and gave up four hits. Everett hit a home run off him and that was the only run he allowed. Reece Wissinger followed and like King he went four innings, allowing one run on four hits. King threw 79 pitches in his four innings, Wissinger threw 49.

Tucker Toman got off to a great start this season hitting .311 in April. However his average dropped to .176 in May. June has been more of a mixed bag but he was in the middle of the action on Thursday. He hit a two run home run in the first inning. Then in the eighth, in a 2-2 tied game, he was hit by a pitch. He scored the go-ahead run when Alexis Hernandez doubled and Hernandez scored when JR Freethy singled. In total Everett outhit Vancouver 9-6.

Dunedin scored eight runs in the top of the seventh to overturn a 5-2 deficit in their first game of two. The Jays racked up 13 hits with one home run. The home run came from rehabbing Hedbert Perez who was 3-4 in the game. Also rehabbing was Cade Doughty who had two hits as did definitely not rehabbing Juan Sanchez who singled, doubled and drove in three runs. Blaine Bullard also had two hits, Jojo Parker had one.

Dylan Watts started game one and was charged with five runs in five innings.

Carson Messina made his Dunedin debut in game two. Messina has had many injury issues in his short pro career and after 2.1 innings he had to leave this game. It might have been some issue with his hands, blister or hot spot maybe? Up to that point he had been a bit wild, he walked three but struck out four. The game was suspended in the fifth inning due to rain. it will be completed on Friday before the regularly scheduled game.

In the FCL Angel Guzman had three hits, one a double. Catcher Giaconino Lasaracina who, despite the name is Venezuelan not Italian, hit two home runs. Despite being Venezuelan, Lasaracina has represented Italy internationally. He was signed as a free agent this spring and he is already 22 years old, old for the FCL.

In the DSL one of prospects highlighted by Baseball America, Gabriel Porras, went 2-3. He is hitting .455 and off to a hot start.

The Jays keep saying Tiedemann is throwing bullpens, but there is no reason given for why he is just throwing bullpens and no exact timetable for when he might get into a game.

Doug Fox:

As smooth as Perry’s return from Tommy John surgery has been, Ricky Tiedemann’s has been bumpy to say the least.

Tiedemann, who underwent the procedure midway through the 2024 season, has not appeared in a game in almost two years.

The lefty began throwing bullpen sessions at the end of May and has started throwing live batting practice. Barring any setbacks (of which he’s had several), he should start a rehab assignment in Florida by mid-June.
