The Dunedin Blue Jays saw their season come to a heartbreaking end Thursday night.

Tampa 9 Dunedin 8

Dunedin, FL
- Despite having home field for all three games and a three-run lead in the third and deciding game, the D-Jays could not advance to the Florida State League final. Ryan McBroom got the Jays rolling with a solo home run in the second to tie the game at 1-1. Jorge Flores singled home the second run by bringing in a David Harris double to draw the Jays to within a run in the fifth. The Jays grabbed a 6-3 lead with a four-run sixth that started with back-to-back doubles by John La Prise and Jonathan Davis. Mike Reeves doubled home a pair of runs and Jorge Flores singled home another but Harris was thrown out at the plate to end the rally. When the Jays batted again in the seventh, they were down three runs. Max Pentecost singled home a run that inning and doubled home another run in the ninth but Mike Reeves and Matt Dean struck out to end the game. Flores led the Jays with three hits while Pentecost, La Prise, Jonathan Davis and McBroom had two apiece with Davis getting a walk. Harris had a hit and a walk and Dean walked twice. Reeves and Anthony Alford were 1-for-5. D.J. Davis was 0-for-1 pinch-hitting.

Conor Fisk (0-1, 16.20) was crushed for all nine runs on nine hits, including a pair of three-run homers, and a walk over five-plus innings. He struck out five and got four of his seven outs in play on the ground. Dusty Isaacs gave the Jays a chance with three shutout frames of two-walk ball that included one strikeout.

I hate seeing a manager hang a pitcher out to dry like Huckaby did with Fisk - 5 straight baserunners allowed by Fisk to start the 6th, including a HR, so of course he gives up a 3 run HR to the 6th batter before getting pulled ...

Still, a nice season for Dunedin.

Why on earth was the starter allowed to stay in to allow 9 runs? Unless the pen was totally drained I'd say this loss is on the manager.

Losing 9-8 means that the team played well enough to win the championship.

Fisk had a bad game. It can happen to anyone. The other team was not playing a good game either.

The first two games went 28 innings, so the bullpens probably didn't have much left.

Jays bullpen didn't allow any runs though. I listened to the game and would opine that the loss was totally on Huckaby. It was a very poorly managed game on his part.

They had plenty of options in the pen, regardless of the extra-innings games prior.  Monday was an off-day, the starter Santos went 8 IP Tuesday followed by Isaacs (the relief star on Thursday - obviously he still had innings in him) and then Rowley pitched 3+.

Wednesday John Harris had a good start and was followed by Tim Mayza (1 2/3 IP) and Carlos Ramirez (1 IP).  Ramirez at least was available, and likely Mayza as a LOOGY.

Also available Thursday - Chris Rowley was a swing man and could handle the 3 IPS tuesday, so he was an option, Jose Ferndandez, Justin Shafer.  Heck, bring Santos back for a key at bat - he was dominant in his start.

Maybe it will be Hucka-bye this winter.

Listening to the game, one sensed that trouble might be on the horizon as Fisk had to sit through a long top of the 6th as the Jays scored 4 runs and he was over 80 pitches. I felt he might run into trouble and that a reliever should have been warming right at the beginning of his inning.
