Is is unusual for a player to have four RBI in a game, it's not something that happens every day. But on Saturday three players did it. Jevon Ward hit two home runs to get his four RBI. New Hampshire split a doubleheader. Yorman Licourt hit his first A ball home run on his way to four RBI and a Dunedin win. Carter Cunningham hit a grand slam for Vancouver. He was overshadowed by JR Freethy who had four hits and reached base six times. With both those players producing Vancouver won. Buffalo lost. And all of this hitting ignores Grant Rogers who produced another excellent start for New Hampshire.

NOTES

Buffalo scored three runs in the first inning with two singles. A pair of walks, a sac fly and an error helped score the three runs. But it went downhill from there, Lazaro Estrada was tagged for eight runs through 4.1 innings. Only one run was unearned despite Buffalo making four errors.

Seven singles for the Bisons. Damiano Palmegiani and Phil Clarke had two hits each.

New Hampshire hit three home runs in the first game and Grant Rogers was his usual Mr. Reliable on the way to an 8-0 win. NH scored three runs in the first inning without a home run. An error by the Binghamton 2B trying for a force at second base helped two runs score. Then Charles McAdoo scored on the back end of a double steal. In the sixth inning McAdoo and Jevon Ward went back to back to make it 5-0. Then in the seventh Ward went deep again for a three run shot to make it 8-0. That's four RBI for Ward. Victor Arias and Jackson Hornung had two hits also.

Grant Rogers threw six shutout innings, six hits, no walks, six K's. Rogers has made 15 starts in AA. He has gone at least six innings in eleven of them and one more was 5.2. In twelve of those starts he has allowed three earned runs or less. His ERA in June, July and August is 4.15, 3.23, 2.00. His WHIP is 1.17, he walks very few. The knock on him is has lack of strikeouts. He has 55 K's in 85.2 innings. He will get a chance in AAA at least by next season.

Game two was far less exciting. The Cats had just two hits, Dasan Brown homered for the only run. NH used three pitchers and they each gave up a home run.

Vancouver had four hits in the first inning to jump out to a 3-0 lead. They only needed two hits in the second inning to score four runs. One was JR Freethy's second double of the night and the other was a grand slam from Carter Cunningham. Five more hits in the fourth inning led to four more runs and an 11-0 lead. The game was effectively over. JR Freethy had two singles to add to his two doubles and for fun added two walks. His batting average is now .341 and his OPS is over 1.000. Tucker Toman and Matt Scanell each had a hit on their debut.

Speaking of debuts, Silvano Hechavarria made his first start in high A. He went five innings, eight hits, two walks, five K's. A solid start.

Dunedin were scoring runs with few hits. A couple of walks and single scored one in the first. A couple more walks in the second inning led to Yorman Licourt hitting his first A ball home run to make it 4-0. Two more walks, a wild pitch, a sac fly and a balk made it a 5-0 inning and a 6-0 score. Six runs, two hits. Yorman Licourt got another hit and brought in the seventh run in the eighth inning. Licourt was the only Jay with two hits.

The D Jays used four pitchers in what was a bullpen game.

I too like Grant Rogers. Don't know anything about his stuff. Could become a multi inning reliever.

Rogers is 90-92 with his fastball... doesnt miss many bats. Future is long-man, maybe a No. 6/7 starter if you just need innings chewed up.
