The Star ran an interview with Carlos Delgado today in which he talks about Christmas in Puerto Rico.

Of course, the writer (not listed in the online article) fires off a cheap shot at Delgado, followed by a paragraph complaining that he isn't particularly open with the press. If someone were to accuse me of being shallow, I don't think I'd be too cooperative in interviews either.

Sounds like the only shallow one in that article is the writer, Randy Starkman.

I see they've now put a byline up for him - Randy Starkman, as Pistol says.

Anybody heard of this guy before?

Anyway, despite the bad lead, this was a very nice interview.

Dave... welcome aboard.

I'm ba-a-a-ck! Hope everyone enjoyed the holidays. I had a great time despite three days of Batter's Box withdrawal. Returning home to find our Internet gateway PC had been fried to uselessness by a power surge was a bit disappointing. A temporary solution has been improvised.

Dave, thanks for joining us and for the link. Starkman has been around for a while on the amateur sports beat; he fills in for David Grossman from time to time -- only a high school coach would know either of them. I don't know if this is a sign that he's being "promoted" to baseball; it's possible Starkman was sent to cover the recent sports celebrity breakfast and hooked up with Delgado there. Who knew Carlos read anything other than the sports page?
