The Jays' waiver-claim lefty has a tough assignment tonight, trying to continue the club's winning streak and facing off against Hose ace Bartolo Colon. Davis had two strong outings against the World Champion Anaheim Angels (no matter how many times you say that, it still sounds odd), but got hammered by Tampa in his last appearance. Carlos Tosca thinks Davis pitched better than the result; we'll see tonight. The White Sox have some fearsome right-handed bats. Mike Bordick will again start for Chris Woodward (shoulder).

Hey, Toronto's above .500 and 13-4 in May! Life is currently good.

It's tempting to look only at the White Sox' 9-18 record in their last 27 games, and fun to think the Blue Jays will rack up football scores every night while going undefeated the rest of the season. But realistically, tonight's matchup favours Chicago by a substantial margin, and another Toronto win would be quite a surprise.

Bartolo Colon is 2-1, 3.64 against the Blue Jays the last three years, and isn't afraid of their lefty bats -- Delgado, Myers, Hinske and Catalanotto have a combined .176 lifetime average (9-for-51) against the big Dominican. He's a multi-million-dollar stud who has won his last two starts by going eight strong innings, and his seasonal ERA is a bit more than three runs better than his opponent's.

Doug Davis has particular trouble with Tony Graffanino and Jose Valentin, who will be at the top of the righty-stacked order. If he gets rocked again tonight, it will be tempting to move him to the bullpen, where you can never have too many southpaws, and restore Tanyon Sturtze to the rotation.

Last night, I suggested Lidle-vs.-Wright was no contest on paper, and that's exactly how it turned out. This one should be just as lopsided in the other direction, but I hope I'm wrong. No TV tonight or tomorrow; apparently TSN has picked up the opening game of the Yankees series on Thursday.

Tell that to Mr Kershner. :-)

When is Mr Bowles going to pitch? He hasn't has either much work or, it would seem, the confidence of his manager. Still, I guess he is only there while Walker is on the DL.

If you're looking for the radio feed on the Internet, try CJCS.

Pedro Martinez was scratched tonight with a sore back; emergency starter Bruce Chen is trying to keep the Red Sox in the game against Weaver and the Yankees.

What an idiotic play! First and third, nobody out, so Manuel, perhaps confusing Doug Davis with Lefty Grove, tries for one run by having Valentin drop a squeeze bunt. The pitcher fielded it, threw home and Myers ran Olivo back to third for the 1-2-5 out, leaving runners at first and second.

Davis, who Jerry Howarth says has "bobbed and weaved his way" through the first three innings, was unable to fully capitalize on his good fortune, walking two of the next three batters to force in the game's first run. Then an infield single off Doug's leg -- didn't he get hit a couple of times last start? -- made it 2-0. It could have been worse; thanks for giving up that out, Jerry.

It is truly some sort of miracle Manuel hasn't been fired. For a time two years ago I was the White Sox correspondent for ESPN.com, and every day I got several e-mails asking me to explain his lineup choices, in-game decisions, etc. And this was from people living in Chicago!

I echo what Dave Till said on a different thread: I'm glad I'm not a White Sox fan. They are the most disappointing team in the last five years.

How did O-dog manage to get doubled off in the 5th?

Why Tanyon now?

How did O-dog manage to get doubled off in the 5th?

Terrific diving catch in left by Carlos Lee.

Ok, thanks. I imagined it was some classic O-dog brain cramp.
