The Toronto Walrus continue to set the pace in the BBFL Alomar division, this week chalking up a 9-2 victory over hannibal's cannibals. The Walrus are now at a .764 winning percentage, proving to be, if memory serves, even more successful than last years oustanding gashouse gorillas. My own Mebion Glyndwr were able to ride the O-Dog to a 12-0 victory over the Horse Field Hammers and second place, taking advantage of a timely off-week from Barry Bonds. AGF are third following a 9-3 win over the Mashers.

Here are the standings through week six:

15 K-Town Mashers 27-40-5 0.41 25.5
16 Austin Senators 25-40-7 0.396 26.5
17 Reykjavik Fish Candy 27-42-3 0.396 26.5
18 Thunderbirds 25-44-3 0.368 28.5
19 Garces_not_on_roids 23-48-1 0.326 31.5
20 Jick's Rays 13-58-1 0.188 41.5

Sixteen weeks still to go.

I will enjoy the lofty perch of second while I have it, but, I fear a return to lower positions given my tough schedule over the next few weeks. My opponents this week, the SABR Magicians continue to move up the table, and to lead the league in the important 'Moves' category, with a staggering 24. Jordan is clearly modelling his management style on J.P.

At the foot of the table Garces_not_on_roids took an 8-3 decision over Jick's Rays to put some daylight between the two teams. While the Thunderbirds battled hard for a 7-5 loss to the high riding Billie's Bashers.

How did the week go in the Barfield and the Leftovers ?

A big week for Ghost Man on Third winning 11-1 to take a commanding lead. TMG posted the first shutout of the season.

Also impressive is W-A-M-C-O with zero ties on the season.

That was the Barfield division above if you didn't figure it out.

The Archivists had themselves a nice week down in Barfield; an 8-3-1 final score over the Middleclass Elitists belied a very close matchup (I won five hitting categories in close finishes). Next up is the Capers; a win might propel us as high as the uncharted waters of 13th place!

Bonds : Sparky, baby! The average races finished closer than the R/RBI ones, so Reed Johnson, who was the king of all three averages for me, wins this crown. .474/.500/.789 with three runs and six RBI.

Neifi : Michael Tucker, whose .143/.333/.143 performance could have caused some problems. Tucker is slugging .349 this year.

Pedro : Jarrod Washburn, a terrific start going 8 3 2 2 0 5 against the Orioles to pick up the win. Honorable mention to another terrific start from Tom Glavine.

Lima : We are reaching a crisis point with #1 starter Hideo Nomo, who has a 7.14 ERA this year after an awful 1.1 3 6 6 3 1 start versus the Cubbies (in Dodger Stadium...)

The K-Town batsmen are hitting with surprising consistency... hitting the DL that is. The current count of 4 men out is par for the season thus far. The guys who were healthy enough to take some cuts this week compiled what has to be an all-time Masher low of 19 - 19 - 1 - .243 - .305 - .335, and I was compelled to pull the trigger on a head-over-heart trade. Gone to Garces is my man Jake Peavy, in exchange for another injury-prone first baseman, Mike Sweeney. Leaving K-Town along with Peavy is set-up sensation Aki Otsuka, while Derek Lowe joins the Masher brigade of mediocre starting pitchers. I'm hoping that Joel Pineiro is done with his early-season impersonation of Joey Hamilton, and that Oliver Perez has discovered consistency to go along with his electric left arm.

You're way too kind, Gwyn ... but yeah, the Magicians have been busy. I'm becoming something of a transactions addict; only Carlos Beltran is left from my five keepers heading into this season. BTW, I'm always on the lookout for strong starting pitching, so let me know if you need outfield bats and have a solid starter to deal.

I've been slowly climbing the charts, but this week could be brutal; Mebion is not an opponent to be treated lightly. I'll be happy if I can break even.

A good week for the 9, but a tough opponent.

Bonds: Abreu - 10/9/4 .474/.560/1.053 unfortunately those 4 steals were in a losing effort.

Abreu: Cuddyer – 2/2/0 .143/.200/.214 – Filling in for Koskie he failed to help much

Pedro: Morris - 8 Inn, 1 W, 2.25 ERA, 0.88 WHIP, 5.0 K/BB.

LIMA: Thomson – Pitched in a rain delayed game – 4.1 innings, 8.31 ERA, 1.85 WHIP, but didn’t walk anyone.

Oddity: Shea Hillenbrand went .292/.269/.500 last week. I didn’t know it was possible to have a lower OBP than BA. Can anyone explain that? I knew Hillenbrand doesn’t like to walk, but that’s rediculous.

I didn’t know it was possible to have a lower OBP than BA. Can anyone explain that?

As any owner of Juan Gonzalez can tell you, sacrifices count in the OBP calculation but not batting average, hence the lower OBP than BA.

It's nice to finally come out of the week with a winning record. I'm just sorry it had to come against a fellow basement dweller. Better luck next week, Moffatt!

A-Rod is finally crowned Bonds for the week as he heats up, batting .375/.414/.667 with 7RBI and 4SB.
The Neifi collar goes around Matt Holliday. Batting .105 for the week at Coors is just a waste of thin air.
The Golden Arm of Pedro is back in D-Train's possession as his CG win at Houston helps erase the memories of San Fran and LA.
I'd give the Lima to Paul Abbott, but was smart enough to leave him on the bench the past two weeks. I think I'll give myself a Sparky for that one.

The old lower obp than batting average trick is called pulling an Alex Sanchez round my way. At least it was until I got sick of it and traded him.

The Edmonton Decepticons needed and got 3 singles from Javy Lopez on Sunday Night Baseball to steal the average and obp categories and turn an 8-4 loss into a 6-6 tie. The Decepticons set a new Barfield record and possibly a BBFL record with only 15 rbi for the entire week. In fact, my entire offence seems to be holding a candlelight vigil for injured teammated Richie Sexson as it only managed a .257/.320/.390 week. Luckily my opponent, Freddy Beach Fracas, also had a punchless week that received no help from a Bondsless weekend. At least my pitching is rounding into form with Mark Buerhle having a great week and even Sidney Ponson looking better.

Bonds: No one had an outstanding week. Javy Lopez had his Sunday night heroics but the Bonds award goes to the Sledgehammer who put up a solid, if unspectacular, .316/.409/.737 Let's hope this will convince Frank Robinson to play him everyday.

Neifi: This goes to the rest of my team. Dishonourable mention to Mark DeRosa (again), Mark Teixeira, Juan Uribe, and Alex Cintron.

Pedro: Mark Buerhrle - 13.2 innings, 2 wins, 0.00 era, 0.95 whip, and 6.50 K/BB. Yeah, that'll do.

Lima: Chan Ho Park has soiled my pitching categories for the last time as he was waived after a second meltdown at the hands of that offensive powerhouse...the Tampa Bay Devil Rays. Technically, Eric Dubose and BH Kim had worse weeks but the award goes to Chan Ho just for being Chan Ho.

Once again my offence and some select relievers carried me to a close win. The Thunderbirds are a strong team everywhere I'm weak and vice versa it seems. The less said about my starting pitching and a few other relievers the better. Prior cannot get healthy quick enough and right now I'm wishing John Patterson never got injured. I kind of gave up on Terry Adams replacing him with Frasor for hopefully a more stable performance; Tosca and Coach are more patient than I am though and Adams got the save against Boston yesterday. I can rest easy in the knowledge that 18 other owners also passed Terry up. :)

Another tough assignment in Baird Brain this week.

The Middleclass Elitists got their lunch served to them by the upcoming Archivists, as Craig previously stated, 8-3-1.

Hitting was horrific, with the contingent of Pena, Konerko, and Choi going a combined 5 for 46, and hot hitting Glaus MIA. FREE MARLON ANDERSON!!! Inexplicably the Elitists managed 4 SBs this week.

Pitching was also horrendous, with the relievers imploding yet again, and most starters having off weeks. For reasons beyond comprehension, L. Hernandez was only started for one of his two superb outings, and cost the team the WHIP category, and possibly ERA.

Next up is 1-Tool Wonders, and the newfound addition of Casey Kotchman will hopefully fill the offensive void lacking this week.
_King Rat - Monday, May 17 2004 @ 03:50 PM EDT (#65260) #
A tie this week. Meh. How middle of the road. The mighty Rats have their beady little eyes set on better things this week, as we take on the fifth place Horse Field Hammers. On to the Week 6 awards:

MVH: Everyone's favorite left fielder, Frank Catalanotto, managed a line of .448/.467/.586, with four runs and six RBI. He also added a stolen base, a rare treat from the Rats' lone Jay.

LVH: Freshly installed Rat second baseman Brian Roberts stunk out Moscow State University stadium last week, hitting a putrid .095/.136/.095, with three runs and a stolen base. Rats manager King Rat's ex-favorite player, ex-Jay Jose Cruz, wins dishonorable mention here as well.

MVP: Mark Buehrle, who won two games, went 13 and two-thirds innings and doing it without an earned run. He also struck out tons of guys too.

LVP: Mike Gallo, who gave up a run on two hits in one inning of work. Everyone else was pretty good.

As always, beware the Rats.

The Good Sports were 9-3 winners over Team Junior Felix in a contest marked by a number of extremely close categories. The win was driven by our pitching staff who, despite the best efforts of Kerry Ligtenberg, won five of six categories. We would have taken IP too, except I forgot to start Paul Wilson.

Bonds: Singles hitting machine Alex Sanchez has been 15/29 since I aquired him, and he'd take the award this week if only caught stealing were a scoring category. As it's not, Royce Clayton and his .440/.500/1.000 line get the honor. His win was all about the Rockies being on a homestand. Last week they were on the road and Royce took the Neifi.

Neifi: Not only did Marco Scutaro suck, but he has apparently lost most of job. Dishonorable mention to Jay Payton.

Pedro: I'd just like to thank everyone in Barfield who turned down my early season attempts to trade them Roger Clemens. In fourteen innings this week he allowed just five hits, two walks, one earned run, and struck out twenty-one.

Lima: Ligtenberg by several light (or ligt) years. Roy Halladay would have been next in line, and he was actually pretty good.

Uh, not exactly. I had a waiver claim in on him, and I believe I had the #12 priority at the time.
