Rough night in the minors as only New Hampshire was able to pull out a win. Dunedin was rained out. At least Aaron Hill and Gabe Gross had decent nights.

Durham 10 Syracuse 1

Somebody must have forgotten to tell Syracuse that they had a game to play last night. All of the Skychiefs pitchers struggled with their command from starter Josue Matos right on through relievers Mike Smith, Mark Lukasiewicz and Dave Maurer who in total gave up 10 BB’s along with a costly HBP and wild pitch combo from Smith.

Gabe Gross was the only Skychief with 2 hits and knocked in their only run. Russ Adams went 0-5. Noah Hall and Glenn Williams each reached twice with a hit and a walk.

New Britain 1 New Hampshire 5

Cam Reimers had another solid, if unspectacular, night going 7+ innings with 5 H, 1 BB and 2 K’s and 1 run on a solo shot in the 4th. Jordan DeJong relieved Reimers in the 8th with a pair on and no one out but got a couple key strikeouts to end the threat. DeJong went on to earn the 2 inning save.

Aaron Hill, Ty Godwin and Danny Solano all singled and walked while Dominic Rich and Maikel Jova each had doubles.

Palm Beach vs Dunedin – Postponed (Rain)

This matchup will be made up as part of a double header this afternoon with Jamie Vermilyea getting the afternoon start and Neomar Flores going in the evening.

Congrats to Carlo Cota for being named the FSL Player of the Week!

Hickory 9 Charleston 7

5 errors resulting in 3 unearned runs were Charleston’s downfall in this contest. At least this is the Alley Cats last season in run-down Watt Powell Park before moving into a new downtown stadium. Clint Johnston had 3 hits in the losing cause while Chris Snavely chipped in a pair of doubles and drove in 3. Ryan Roberts hit his 12 HR of the season.

Starter Ramon Mora’s 6 runs on 8 hits and 2 walks in 4.0 IP didn’t help matters while Marcos Sandoval and Felix Romero were unable to stop the bleeding.

Box score

Three-Star Selection!

A rather uninspiring group to choose from today but it’s a chance to reward a guy who would normally get overlooked.

The 3rd Star Christian Snavely: 2-4 with a pair of doubles and 3 RBI

The 2nd Star Cam Reimers: 7 solid innings to lead the Fisher Cats to victory

The 1st Star Jordan DeJong: Came up big in a pinch and earned the save.

The links to boxscores are not working due to problems on milb.com's website. Chris Baker starts for Syracuse tonight against Durham at 7 p.m.

I'm in for the Friday game (7:05 pm). I can't make the Saturday one due to another commitment...

The boxscores seem to be working for me now... was it just a temporary thing at milb or is anyone else still having problems? If so I can change the links to a different source.

I think if the rotation stays in place it will be Bush and Douglass starting for the chiefs in Ottawa. Both of them are really starting to heat up. Go see them if you have the chance.

Yes, the milb.com site is now up. Ryan Houston starts for New Hampshire tonight and Danny Core for Charleston.

Mosely and Mark, if you get to see Bush this weekend in Ottawa and would like to file a report, I'd be happy to post it as a pinch-hit on Sunday or to incorporate it into the minor league report on Sunday. COMN to e-mail me.

This is strange, Matos struglled in AAA as a starter with the Mariners was demoted to AA and dominated in the pen, Now with the Blue Jays they are using him as a starter?
_Ryan01 - Wednesday, June 09 2004 @ 10:06 AM EDT (#59089) #
I think Matos is starting out of necessity with Arnold down and Towers called up.

_Mark - Wednesday, June 09 2004 @ 12:46 PM EDT (#59091) #
stephen sc: I think section EE is the plan. We'll grab some seats a couple of rows up.

Mike Green: I'll email you with some notes on the game.

Mosely: OK.

Anyone else?

Conditional on negotiations with Mrs. Gideon, I should be available for the Friday night game too. If Bush is pitching, that would be an added bonus. That's four for Friday and counting.

I believe you guys will have a quorum for a meeting of the BB Minor League Cheer Club- Ottawa section on Friday. Sounds like a blast.

We won't have an O-Drum to beat on Friday, but I imagine David Herle will do just as nicely.

A little BB Radio for your reading pleasure:

Bottom of 6 in Syracuse:

Durham leads 1-0. Chris Baker is pitching a fine game for the Sky Chiefs, but Damian Moss is throwing a 1-hitter so far for the Bulls.

Brad Hassey (playing short today) walks. Paul Chiaffreddo flies out to right. Marvin Benard (leading off today)singles infield, Hassey to second. Shawn Fagan up, and pitching coach Joe Coleman makes a trip to the mound. Fagan hits a deep fly to right...track, wall, the right fielder Diaz jumps and makes the catch (1 foot from the top of the fence). The runners hold. On a ball in the dirt, Hassey takes off for third, Benard hesitates to see if Hassey is going, then takes off and is thrown out by the catcher at second.

1-0 after 6.

On the out-of-town scoreboard, the F-Cats were rained out. Dunedin won the 1st half of their doubleheader against 2nd place Tampa 5-3, behind Vermilyea and Bubbie. Carlo Cota homered. They lead 1-0 in the nightcap after 3 innings. Charleston leads Hickory 7-3 in the 8th inning.
