The two staff aces - Doc Halladay and Victor Zambrano - duel in what is expected to be another tight, low-scoring game along the lines of last Wednesday's clash. That contest saw the Jays claw back and win 2-1 on a Reed Johnson single, breaking up the Rays' 12 game winning streak. Zambrano struck out only 2, against 4 walks and threw 128 pitches, while Doc held Tampa Bay to 1 run through 7, striking out 8.

My Halladay bobble-head will be paying close attention.

Phelps is the DH, Clark's in LF, Berg sits. Menechino has apparently taken over Woodward's job. Hard to predict anything but another low-scoring affair, though sometimes familiarity with a pitcher makes a difference. I hope that's the case for the Jays tonight.
_Ryan Lind - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:01 PM EDT (#54957) #
If the Jays don't draw at least 5 walks I'll be upset. Heh. ;)

Is today the day that Phelps starts to turn it around?
_Ryan Lind - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:10 PM EDT (#54959) #
What's up with Lou? He seems distracted.
_JackFoley - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:12 PM EDT (#54960) #
I'll add another question: Is Woodward still hurting?
Coach - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:25 PM EDT (#54961) #
Jack, I think Tosca just wants Menechino's bat in the lineup. When your lineup is this thin, anyone hitting .317/.427/.540 (Frank's numbers in June) has to play. He's a bit vertically challenged for first base, and they have a superior 2B, so he's the shortstop.

Cruz boots a Hinske line drive to extend the inning, and Zaun makes them pay -- 1-0 Jays.
_Ryan Lind - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:32 PM EDT (#54962) #
Wow.

I don't think I've seen as many balks in my life as I have against the Jays this season.
Coach - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:34 PM EDT (#54963) #
This is not going well at all for Doc: single, SB, balk, walk, single. Tie game, two on, nobody out.
_Keith Talent - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:35 PM EDT (#54964) #
It's that same fan from last year, the 'leather-lunged' one who gave Hinske such a hard time last year.
_Keith Talent - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:37 PM EDT (#54965) #
Tampa Bay simply owns the Jays. What's the lifetime record? Anybody know? The Jays always get killed in this blasted stadium.
_Tom - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:40 PM EDT (#54966) #
anyone know where the game can be listened too? the FAN is blocked.
_P Smith - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:43 PM EDT (#54967) #
Jays now lead the league with 8 balks.

But they gotta pick up the pace to match their team record of 29 from 1988.
_Keith Talent - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:45 PM EDT (#54968) #
KRUZ online, 980 I think
_Tom - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:47 PM EDT (#54969) #
Thanks Keith, I usually listen on KRUZ but tonight they're playin music. I hope they're not shut down too.
Coach - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 07:48 PM EDT (#54970) #
Actually, Keith, last year's disappointment was the first time the Rays have ever won the season series from the Jays. However, you're right about that park, where Toronto is 21-25 so far.
_Daryn - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:02 PM EDT (#54971) #
Yep.. same guy..
Dave Till - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:02 PM EDT (#54972) #
I just put the television on mute to shut that loud annoying fan up.
_Ryan Lind - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:04 PM EDT (#54973) #
That fan guy is annoying; I can't even understand what he's saying. It just sounds like he's drowning or something.
Coach - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:13 PM EDT (#54974) #
So far, Hinske has responded to the loudmouth imbecile by reaching base twice and scoring once. I hope Eric has a monster series, and am rooting for every other visiting player this clown targets for his abuse. If I was sitting near someone like that, I might accidentally spill stuff on him.

Doc is settling down; time to get him a couple of runs.
_Elijah - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:16 PM EDT (#54975) #
I'm not listening to the radio but couldn't that be the same fan that heckled Hinske last year? That was in Tampa, right?
_R Billie - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:16 PM EDT (#54976) #
A rocket one-hop into a doubleplay for Phelps.
_Keith Talent - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:20 PM EDT (#54977) #
Ah well, it's part of being a pro athelete to block that stuff out. At least his taunts aren't obscene. The only reason we hear him so well is because the stadium is otherwise practically empty. He seems to be giving the people in the stands something to chuckle about. And that he only does it to Hinske is, slightly funny.

That guy is just being playful and I would be disappointed if ushers removed him for doing what he's doing.
_R Billie - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:29 PM EDT (#54978) #
Roy's all over the place today. Not his best game and he hasn't been at his best since before going on the DL.
_Matt - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:34 PM EDT (#54979) #
2 hr's in one inning off doc... not a cup of tea...
Named For Hank - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:35 PM EDT (#54980) #
Aw, crap.
_Fawaz K - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:37 PM EDT (#54981) #
Ugh. It was such a good day, too. I went to class and the vending machine gave me an extra chocolate bar. Then I sat an obscenely easy exam. With Doc on the hill, this day could only get better. Then I got home and saw the score...

Don't panic Fawaz, he's the reigning CY Young and there's nothing wrong with him...
_Keith Talent - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:41 PM EDT (#54982) #
He must have caught some of that Hentgenitis that's going around.
Named For Hank - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:44 PM EDT (#54983) #
Is that dimwit heckling everyone now?
_greenfrog - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:51 PM EDT (#54984) #
hmm...is something up with Halladay? He hasn't been his dominant self lately.
_R Billie - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 08:52 PM EDT (#54985) #
What a crazy called third strike on Phelps. That looked way high.

Rios really cannot get around on those inside fastballs. He got an infield hit out of it though.
_ZTigerX - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 09:18 PM EDT (#54986) #
The heckler's name is Robert Szasz, and yeah, he's freakin' annoying. Be glad you only have to hear him a few times a year....I gotta put up with listening to him all the bloody time. He's never vulgar, usually singles out one opposing player to pick on, but it does get real old listening to him.
_R Billie - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 09:51 PM EDT (#54987) #
Well that wasn't too pleasant. Doc's worst start in recent memory and no offence once again off Tampa's power arms.
_Mike in CT - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 10:17 PM EDT (#54988) #
I think the Jays are going to have to use a mulligan and start over in 2005. Too bad the major leagues don't split there season in halves like they do in A-ball. Then the Jays could start at 0-0 soon :) .

Sorry, this has just been one of the worst seasons I can remember as a Jays fan, except for maybe 1995. It's been tough to follow on a daily basis.
_Ryan Day - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 10:26 PM EDT (#54989) #
Oh, 96 & 97 were much worse, despite the Cy Youngs. Joe Carter, Otis Nixon, Jacob Brumfield, Erik Hanson, Ed Sprague, Carlos Garcia... Those were very dark days.
_Rob - Monday, June 28 2004 @ 10:28 PM EDT (#54990) #
Is it me, or did someone just call in and tell Wilner the Jays should have traded Halladay for prospects in January? What an ass.
_doctor_payne13 - Tuesday, June 29 2004 @ 01:46 AM EDT (#54991) #
I think that heckler is funny as hell. If he picked on all the players, it'd get old, but the fact that he only really gives it to Hinske amuses me.

BTW - for the people who wanted to hear the game on the radio, go to 570news.com. It's a Kitchener station that broadcasts pretty well everything from The Fan, including Jays games and Wilner's postgame show. And it's not blocked out...

I sort of agree. Last year, when he picked solely on Hinske it was funny. Today, though, he was yelling basically throughout the entire game. That's when I got annoyed.

I think he's funny for about 10 minutes or so, then just a pain.

The Fan interviewed him last year and, believe it or not, he is from Toronto, now living in TB.
