Well, three great games in a row! And now it's our buddies from Anaheim, who surely will remember the trouble the Cheer Club gave them last time.

After last night I'm totally shot. My throat is raw and my lungs feel weak. I'll be skipping tonight, kids, sorry. Jobu was working on Wunderbat to get us a pile of scrubs for Doc's start tonight -- how did that go? If you're coming out, let him know so that we have enough scrubs. Alex has the Rx Ks.

Saturday I'll be attending the Batter's Box Book Bash at 1:00 and then the game. I encourage everyone to come on out and meet Rob Bradford, the author of Chasing Steinbrenner, at Alice Fazooli's before the game. Details are here.

Any requests for a Saturday sign?

And who likes Scott Carson's idea of sticking the Return of the King banner onto some T-shirts? If anyone has a source for cheap shirts let me know and I'll give you a large version of the file. I can make shirts at work, but the cost is about ten bucks a shirt on top of the cost of the shirt itself, and they don't last through many washings. They're good for one-offs, though, if anyone has any particularly good and/or ridiculous ideas.

Are there any plans for Sunday's game?
Thomas - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 10:30 AM EDT (#52766) #
Is the O-Drum going to be there tonight, or on Saturday? Are the scrubs a go?

I'm at the Zoo on Sunday, but feel free to try to gather some folks together. I'd put money on Alex being there at least. ;)

The O-Drum is out of action for about a month, because BD is working night and day on a real job, seven days a week. Poor guy.

Obviously BD doesn't want his drum just lying around in someone else's house, but couldn't we pitch in and buy a cheap drum from a second-hand store? I seem to remember talk of storing a drum at SkyDome, too; that'd be perfect if there was one official Cheer Club drum.
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 10:48 AM EDT (#52770) #
If someone can find a nice cheap drum, I'll pitch in a few bucks. I don't think storing it at the Dome is really feasable, but I'm sure we could figure out a transportation schedule for it.
Thomas - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 11:05 AM EDT (#52771) #
We need the scrubs to save this game. There is some momentum which must be built upon; we can't have it die. Right now we have no drum and no fearless leader. Four games in a row is too many and my throat hurts, that's a poor excuse.

Do you think George Bush says that he can't go into the White House because four days in a row is too many and he needs a vaction? Wait, bad example.....

I'm curious to hear Jobu's antics.

So that's where the Z-list celebrities start ;-)

Not really Cheer Club related, but couldn't think of a better place to put it.

Reed Johnson will be at a Pontiac dealership in Richmond Hill on Saturday from 10:30-Noon for autographs. Dealership is on Yonge Street not far North of Hwy 407.

I'm going to try to take my boys to see him (the older one has a rep ball tournament this weekend but I think there's time between games to do it).

If I get any decent pictures, I'll try to pass them on.

I was going to let Jobu tell you since this is his "project", but for all I know he may be busy at this particular moment. Since some preparation may be needed I thought I might as well tell everyone. The scrubs are a go. There are 10 I think. Jobu will be bringing them since I might be late. I would like to suggest that if anyone has any of those toy stethoscopes (I spelled it phonetically since I am not sure how to spell that) they probably would be a nice touch.

Fan-tastic, Wunderbat! Thanks for coming through. I'll be watching for you guys on TV.
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 12:40 PM EDT (#52776) #
Thanks for stealing my thunder Rick....

anyhoo, yah I got 10 scrubs which I'll be bringing to tonights game. One I shall done myself, two shall go to my friends who are accompanying me. I suppose the rest will be first come first served.

Now I have a favour to ask of the Cheer Club, one that probably could have easily been met if NFH was coming tonight. But is anyone willing to make some kind of signage, be it magic marker on brtistol board, tape, anything legible to describe our team. One idea is "Doc's Interns" or something along those lines so the others in attendance know what the hell we're doing, and also it makes good for tv clips.

PS. BD and I were apparently on Conan last night, although I have yet to verify that. This would be a new level of cheer club exposure...

Hey Jobu:

There's a description of the Conan show that you were on on the "Jays Roundup - When it's Tricky, When it Gets Tough" thread, first post.

I didn't see it myself.
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 12:52 PM EDT (#52778) #
Aye, that be my other friend Paul (who'll be at tonights game) and he's sent me more than one detailed email teasing me about the fact that he saw me on Conan and I didnt....

Anyways, I think the scrubs will go over huge tonight, twice as much if we get a semi-decent sign saying so. Shame you're missing this one NFH, we'll cheer extra loud for you.

CHEER CLUB UPWARD AND ONWARD!!
_Fawaz K - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 12:55 PM EDT (#52779) #
I don't know what BD looks like, but the MIGHTY O-DRUM was indeed on Conan last night.
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 12:55 PM EDT (#52780) #
I'm just so burned out today I can barely function. I want to recover enough for tomorrow and the luncheon -- I'm really looking forward to that Steinbrenner book and meeting Bradford. Otherwise I'd be there for sure.

If anyone wants to come out to Oakville and pick it up, I'll make a DOC'S INTERNS banner. COMN and send me e-mail and I'll make it right away. Otherwise I suppose we can make one for the next Doc home start.
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 12:56 PM EDT (#52781) #
Fawaz, BD would be the one in the new white home jersey. Hudson's number and name are on the back, but I'd wager you couldn't see that on TV.
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 01:13 PM EDT (#52782) #
Ladies and gentleman, the gift you keeps on giving, my buddy Paul (who posted in the wrap up thread) has agreed to take on the challange of preparing signage for tonights game. Godspeed Paul, in the name of the allmighty CHEER CLUB!

NFH - Check your e-mail in a few minutes. I just e-mailed you a screen shot from last night's Conan (hopefully it will go through and look okay). Apologies for the size of the file but I don't know how to reduce and stuff like that. =)
_Daryn - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 01:23 PM EDT (#52785) #
How about "Cheer Club Doc's", or "Doc's Cheer Club Interns"
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 01:36 PM EDT (#52786) #
Man, I'll add a screenshot to the Hall Of Dubious Achievement for sure!
Thomas - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 01:53 PM EDT (#52787) #
Jobu, I'll be down there tonight so count me in for a scrub. However, we also need to make a dance of somekind to go along with good achievements by Doc (like k's or a sharp fielding play). If anybody's seen clips of the Wolf Pack or Duck Pond in Philly you'd know what I mean.

Is it "borrowing" from the Wolf Pack in Philadelphia? Yes.
Were they first to think it up? I doubt it.
Is it highly entertaining to dance around when Doc k's somebody? I would think so.

I should be there at about quarter to if anybody else wants to come early and brainstorm with regards to this or any other idea for Doc's Interns.
_Christopher - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 02:03 PM EDT (#52788) #

What if you were to rub your hands together like you were preparing a defibulator and then yell CLEAR while throwing your hands out in front of you in unison?

Special thanks to Elijah for this cap from last night's Conan O'Brien:

I can see Jobu, bird droppings, Thomas and a little bit of #2JBrumfield and his lady. Am I missing anyone?
_6-4-3 - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 02:34 PM EDT (#52790) #
If you missed the Jays segment on Conan last night, my TV Guide says that it's rerunning today at 5:00, on the Star network. It should be the right episode.
Thomas - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 02:51 PM EDT (#52791) #
Thanks for the screenshot Elijah and the Conan rerun news 6-4-3. What were we doing at that point? Was that a Zaun cheer?

The other question is do I, instead of grabbing a meal downtown and going to the game, take the TTC home to watch the Conan rerun, then hop right back onboard and take it back for tonight's game? I think I may have to....
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 03:05 PM EDT (#52792) #
I go out for coffee, and come back to such a WONDERFUL surprise. Thanks to NFH and Elijah for providing me with my new computer desktop. My favourite part is they cut off my loser friend Rick, oh, he'll get such a ribbing for that.

The scrub is your Thomas, whatever dances you come up with are A-OK with me. NFH, if you watching at home, you might want to tape the game to add Doc's Interns to your hall of dubious achievment after..ha ha ha.
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 03:18 PM EDT (#52793) #
Oh yeah, before I get since im leaving early for the game, if someone can bring down duct tape to the game, we're gonna need it for the Doc's Interns sign. Once again congrats to Paul who is ducking his boss, locked in the company meeting room, making the sign as we speak.
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 03:32 PM EDT (#52794) #
Alex will have duct tape. I don't have a VCR, or I would tape it.

I think that image is all of us going crazy for Josh's slam.
_Alex Obal - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 03:44 PM EDT (#52795) #
Whoa. I get home ready to collapse from classroom-driving-course-induced boredom, and then I read this thread. Now I am dancing around in my basement. Thank you, Cheer Club. Wunderbat, Jobu, Paul: much thank for putting together this awesome event.

Duct tape is in. I almost always bring the duct tape anyway, in case unexpected signs show up. I'll be there earlyish too, probably around 6:45.

Unfortunately, I can't make it Sunday - my superstar golfer side is going to keep me busy.

And I love the defibrillator idea for a strikeout dance.
_Alex Obal - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 04:01 PM EDT (#52796) #
Also, on taping the game, I can give it a shot. My VCR is very old and very cranky (it's at least as old as I am), and does not respond very well to being programmed in advance to tape shows, but it should be able to get the job done.

You can also watch "Jays in an Hour" at midnight - the #17 and Return of the King got a surprising amount of screen time last night even in a condensed showing of the game. I bet the Interns will pop up after every strikeout once we get noticed.
_Elijah - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 04:25 PM EDT (#52797) #
Jobu - after that wider shot I sent to NFH, the camera zoomed in on you applauding and held it for a good two seconds.
_Fawaz K - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 04:37 PM EDT (#52798) #
For those that were at the game - naked FedEx Pope? Really?
Named For Hank - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 04:42 PM EDT (#52799) #
Yep. Didn't see him from the front, but I'm sure he was wearing a body stocking or something.
_Fawaz K - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 05:35 PM EDT (#52800) #
Just saw it again - at MOST he was wearing a well-placed sock!
_Rob - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 11:11 PM EDT (#52801) #
Hey there, saw the Interns from afar tonight.

They showed the Conan bit on the Jumbotron -- see yourself there, Jobu?
_Jobu - Friday, July 09 2004 @ 11:23 PM EDT (#52802) #
Oh i certainly did see myself there. Haven't been that weirded out a game since Jerry was annoucning me posting up a sign as I was doing it.
_Jobu - Saturday, July 10 2004 @ 01:45 AM EDT (#52803) #
Whoa... it JUST set in. I had a close up on Conan O'Brien seen by millions of people. Now I'm wigged out...
Named For Hank - Saturday, July 10 2004 @ 08:04 AM EDT (#52804) #
I saw the interns on TV. Faulds made some comment about Doc finally giving his interns a chance to put up another K. Good work, gentlemen! Sadly there were not more strikeouts, but the next one will be better.
_Rob - Saturday, July 10 2004 @ 03:31 PM EDT (#52805) #
I had a close up on Conan O'Brien seen by millions of people.

Yeah, but it's Conan O'Brien, so nothing to get excited about.

Sorry, just jealous. Two-second closeups on national TV for Jobu 1, two-second closeups on national TV for Rob 0.
