You can watch the game on CBC, starting at 11:30am EST.

After going 4-0 in a pre-Athens tournament in Italy (including a 2-1 victory over today’s opponent), the Canadian Men’s baseball team start their mission toward Olympic glory with today’s game. Much has been made of the team not being able to field Justin Morneau or Jeff Francis, both players having been called up to the big leagues, but this is still a very talented squad, capable of perhaps a bronze or better. Best of luck to you, boys.

Two other games have already been played today. The favored Cubans beat a talented Australian team 4-1 and Japan squashed Italy 12-0.

Congratulations to the Canadian Women’s Softball team. They won their opening game of the Olympics with a 2-0 victory, also against Chinese Taipei.

Stubby with a 2-run single and Canada leads 2-0 in the second.

Taiwan looks really shaky on defense.

7-0 win by Canada.

Nice game for the good guys. The team looked very solid fundamentally and played an aggressive style that somehow suits an Ernie Whitt led team. Mike Johnson pitched a good 7 scoreless innings.

Next up is Italy tomorrow with Jason Dickson on the hill.

Pete Orr looked especially solid. LaForest took a curve that dropped into the strike zone for a two run double to score the 4th and 5th runs. Todd Betts has a funky batting stance, or at least routine before the batting stance, where he holds the bat down his legs and wiggles it forward like three times. Does anyone know how the rest of the rotation for Canada will shape up?

Also, Lauren Bay settled down after a shaky first yesterday and pitched really well to lead Canada to victory. They were losing today to Greece when I last checked, but they surely came back. It's Greece.

I think the rest of Canada's rotation is Shawn Hill starting against Netherlands and Paul Spoljaric against Greece. I'm fairly sure it's just a 4 man rotation as Johnson is supposed to go against Japan.

Did anyone else find Warren Sawkiw not annoying today?

Did anyone else find Warren Sawkiw not annoying today?

Oddly enough, yes. During Jays games, he has a tendency to really. Over. Emphasize. Words. He didn't do that at all today, he just spoke normally. Also, we didn't have to see that creepy smile of his...

Well, I thought he was really annoying. And biased.

Nice game for Canada. Too bad Canada still doesn't have any medals.

Did the women's softball team come back? They were down 2-0 in the 7th I think. Checked ESPN, which was useless, since they reported that they are 0-1 overall, despite winning their first game.

I thought Sakiw was very good. He was insightfull and well prepared. Obviously he knows the guys on the team quite well.

I'm really pumped by this group, its just too bad we don't have an ace pitcher( Francis)and a dominant hitter(Morneau). Still a pretty good squad for this level of ball.

Did the women's softball team come back?

No, they didn't. The final score was 2-0 for Greece.

I find the CBC site to be the best for Olympic coverage. Stuff is updated within minutes.

We lost to Greece in women's softball? I guess we aren't as close to being medal contenders there as I thought. Are they as big of a joke as they are in baseball there?

Sawkiw is an annoying boob. He never shuts his mouth.
