Apparently the Toronto Blue Jays are playing in the All-Twins division of the Grapefruit League this year. It doesn't bother me, but do the Twins fans get fed up with their former star being showcased at them over and over again?

I mean, think of what it would be like if we saw Carlos Delgado every other day during Spring Training! I feel a little bad for Twins followers.

Today's game isn't on TV or Toronto-area radio, but the Jays do have a home broadcast beaming out over MLB Gameday. The Twins feed is also available.

A freeroll poker tournament and Blue Jays baseball piping through the ol' internet radio. I should take sick days more often.

By the way, and I address this to no one in particular, is there still room left in the Cheer Club? Or are no JackFoley's allowed? Seems I will be moving to TO in July.

There are currently about 35,000 spaces available per game for Cheer Club members.

Jobu is the current head of new membership and organizationality, but unless things have changed, all you have to do to be a member is show up in 518. Oh, and cheer.

They need someone to replace my Cheer Club pipes this year, since I'll be mostly absent. Can you shout?

kpataky - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 01:10 PM EST (#106323) #

I can't do it all game - I am leaving for Dunedin at 3 pm! I am listening as long as I can to get in the mood!

Hudson, batting right handed, looks at a bounced 2-2 changeup as the count runs full. Then walks on a high fastball.
kpataky - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 01:18 PM EST (#106331) #
Wells grounded into a 5-4-3 DP (despite a nice hard slide by Hudson at 2nd). End of 1, no score.

Hopefully Wells is getting a big slump out of the way early. Anybody know how he usually performs in spring training. Im not at all worried , but he just seems to be doing awfully bad.

I don't shout so much as bellow (is that aloud?), but I'm there as often as I can afford it.

kpataky - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 01:33 PM EST (#106342) #

I can do this for awhile:

Top 6th:

Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 02:33 PM EST (#106377) #

1 out, Cuddyer on 2nd, Restovich on 1st, Redmond the batter

Restovich is thrown out at 2nd
2 out, Cuddyer on 3rd, Redmond the batter
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 02:35 PM EST (#106378) #
Myers was the man that threw out Restovich. Apparently, the Twins guys say the coaches weren't happy that Restovich (a) didn't get a big enough lead and (b) didn't pay close enough attention to Cuddyer when he took off because Cuddyer got a huge jump.

Redmond strikes out swinging. Twins strand one.

Mid 6th: Twins 2, Blue Jays 0
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 02:38 PM EST (#106381) #
Bottom 6th:
Nitkowski starts 2nd inning of work

2 out, Restovich on 1st, Chris Heintz batting
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:05 PM EST (#106399) #
Restovich goes and Heintz lines a base hit to left, Restovich reaches third but barely beats the throw as 3rd base coach Al Newman didn't tell Restovich whether to slide or stand until it was too late. Good throw from the Gabe to make it close.

2 out, Restovich on 3rd, Heintz on 1st, Castro up

Castro lines a base hit to right just past Crozier at 1st, Restovich scores, Heintz to 2nd. 4-0, Twins. Good ole Koch.

2 out, Heintz on 2nd, Castro on 1st, Rios up
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:07 PM EST (#106400) #

Munson lines a hit down the right field line. Abernathy scores as Matos drops the relay. Munson doubles in a run to give the Twins a 5-0 lead. 1 out, Munson on 2nd, Fox batting

Adams lines it sharply to right but Dunwoody is there to make the catch.

1 out, Julius Matos now batting.
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:32 PM EST (#106413) #
Matos swings at ball four and hits a little nubber down the first base line. Munson picks it up and tags Matos out. A little controversy as the 1B ump calls Matos out and the HP ump called the ball foul. But whatever, it's spring training!

Wells is the Jays' last chance.
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:33 PM EST (#106414) #
Wells hits a weak popup to shortstop Bartlett behind second base. Twins win 5-0.

Anyone know who the umps are? If it was one of my umpire school instructors I want to laugh at him.
Elijah - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:38 PM EST (#106418) #
I'm pretty sure Mark Wegner was the first base ump. Didn't catch who the home plate ump was.
Zao - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:41 PM EST (#106419) #
Oh, ok I don't know him. It was his fault though. Hopefully he's already in the big leagues or else that could set him back.
Pepper Moffatt - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 03:53 PM EST (#106420) #
It wasn't necessarily his fault. The plate ump has to yell "foul" loud enough and make a rather obvious jesture so that the 1st base ump knows what's going on. When there's a miscomunication like that, it's often tough to tell who screwed up.
Zao - Wednesday, March 16 2005 @ 04:07 PM EST (#106421) #
I suppose if the home umps call was confusing it could be his fault. But in umpire school they are taught that on a play on the line (infront of the bag) you always make sure your partner calls it fair before you make the safe-out call. Really it's both their faults for not working together as a team, so they're probably both in trouble with the supervisor if he saw it. Anyway, it doesn't really matter, accidents happen. Just getting to spring training as an umpire is incredibly difficult.
