The text of the overhead is a lot of fun to read.

I remember from the earlier chat thread with Mr. Schwartz that he said The Baseball Encyclopedia (1969) was the time at which baseball stats first became widely available to interested readers.

I wonder if he knew of Hy Turkin and S.C. Thompson, eds. The Official Encyclopedia of Baseball. Jubilee Edition. (N.Y.: Barnes, 1951)? Full of stats. Kept me engrossed as a gradeschooler.

I don't have the book handy, but my memory of it is telling me that the date is much earlier than 1969 for the first big baseball reference stats book.
