The Doubledays fell last night to the Staten Island Yankees by a 3-2 score. The Yankees won the NYPL title, sweeping the best-of-three series. Nonetheless, Auburn had a fine season.

Auburn led 1-0 after six innings as Eric Fowler allowed only 4 hits and 1 walk, while striking out six. Sean Shoffit tripled and scored for the only run of the game to that point. In the seventh, Jesse Litsch came on and gave up a run on a leadoff double, a groundout and a sacrifice fly. The Doubledays re-took the lead in the top of the eighth on a run-scoring double from Matt Cooksey, but Paul Phillips surrendered single runs in the bottom of the eighth and the bottom of the ninth and that was that. Ryan Patterson doubled and singled twice in 5 plate trips, but the Doubledays could not get the big hit and left 12 runners on. The boxscore is here, but there's nothing quite like #2JBrumfield's BBRadio call of the last innings.

Your Three Star Selection

Third star - Matt Cooksey, RBI double

Second Star - Ryan Patterson, 3 hits

First Star - Eric Fowler, six shutout innings

On behalf of the minor league crew it has been fun bringing you game reports this season. Look for end of season reports and our top 30 coming soon.

Congrats to the Doubledays for a great season. It's a slightly better ending than the two previous years. I did manage to take in a D-Days game in early August at Falcon Park when they played Oneonta. They were only a game over .500 at the time so they really turned it on down the stretch. Unfortunately, Oneonta won the game 4-1 with Ryan Patterson providing the only run for the D-Days in that game with a home run. That's why I enjoyed hearing about the D-Days laying a savage beating on Oneonta in the post-season.

Thanks for the comments on the play-by-play and thanks to everyone for providing the minor league reports all season long. I'm looking forward to what's coming up in the off-season. It's a sad day today, no more Jays minor league teams in action until next year and only two more weeks until the end of the Jays season, AARRRRRRGH!

Today's report turned out to be a combined Gerry/Mike effort. Thanks, Gerry.
