Per ESPN.com:

Major league pitcher Joe Kennedy died early Friday morning while at home with his family in Florida, agent Damon Lapa confirmed to ESPN.com.

The cause of Kennedy's death could not immediately be determined, Lapa said.

Update:  A Fox Sports headline through Google said: "Pitcher Joe Kennedy died early Friday, apparently from a brain aneurysm, according to a major-league source."  However, since then the headline and text of the article omitted that detail

Kennedy joined the Jays late in the 2007 season pitching 7 innings in 9 appearances.

As is often the case, the saddest part of such an article is: "Kennedy was married with a 1-year old son".

Having an 11-month old daughter, I can only imagine what it would be like for my wife and her if I passed away :-( :-(

Condolences and prayers for the Kennedy family.

Sad to hear.  My condolences to his friends and family.

I'll remember him mostly for the trouble the Jays had against him when he first came up with Tampa in 2001.  He had 7 wins in 20 starts that year, but three of those wins came against Toronto.  The Jays just couldn't figure him out.

It's hard to believe he could be gone at such a young age.  He was younger than I am.

Tragic..  My deepest thoughts and prayers go out to him and his loved ones.

Wow, that was unexpected. How odd that we've had a couple of these brain aneurysms with Jay related people in the last couple of years (first John Cerutti now Kennedy).

Only 28. Younger than my wife, younger than any of my sisters. Makes one wonder how to protect yourself from something this horrible.

Just reading the ESPN article it says he was to be the best man at a wedding today. I hate to imagine how it will affect everyone involved there too (imagine having your best man die the day of your wedding - it could really hurt your relationship with your future spouse in ways never imagined). So many angles that make this terrible. The fact it was such an odd method of death has to make it even worse - a car accident, a long term illness, these are things you can understand and find others to relate to about it, but having something odd happen in a persons brain, coming out of nowhere... brrr... that is just too scary.

It is very sad.  John Olerud survived an aneurysm prior to arriving here, with the help of his physician father.

I didn't write a condolence note here earlier because I just couldn't think of anything to say... truthfully...I still can't.

I can't even begin to imagine what Jami, his wife, must be going through now...I hope her extended families are there for her. As for Kaige, their 1-year-old son... he'll never know his dad. I can't imagine how my life would have turned out if I hadn't known, loved and had the support of my father. Poor Kaige.

When I thought of Joe dying at 28 I couldn't help but think of all the soldiers being killed in their youth so far away form home...of all the 1-year-old sons and daughters that will never truly know their fathers love and support. It's past Thanksgiving, going on towards the Christmas season, those of us alive are blessed. Let's savor every second.

In the end...life is always cruelly too short.

Cerutti didn't die of a brain aneurysm.  He died of heart arrhythmia.

What a shock to see somebody die suddenly at the age of 28.  All the life that he will miss.  How fortunate we are to be alive.  Too many people forget that.
