The Blue Jays signed 27 draftees, including top pick David Cooper.

Cooper was the first 1st rounder to sign, getting a reported $1.5MM signing bonus.

Here's the complete list.

The most notable players not to sign are 3rd and 4th round picks RHP Andrew Liebel and 3B Robert Sobolewski (who as Marc points out, can't sign until after his team is out of the CWS).

Two players with injury concerns (who fell in the draft because of it), OF Eric Thames and C Antonio Jiminez both signed out of the 7th and 9th rounds respectively.

6 of 12 HS draftees signed.  Two of them are still 17.  A 19 year-old JuCo lefty (John Anderson) signed as well.

Sobolewski is in the CWS and cannot negotiate a contract until after the series is over.

Out of the guys we haven't signed from the later rounds, I really would've liked to see us sign Bell, Dalles, Betts-Robinson (the top pitcher in all of JUCO), Beeler, Petter, Durden, and Ybarra.

Betts-Robinson/Dalles/Durden I wouldn't be surprised to not see them sign.  That's the way it goes with most JUCO players (although Dalles has been drafted at least three times now).

It'll be interesting to see if anything can be worked out with Beeler/Petter/Ybarra.

Also, I liked the pick of Bob Bell who fell because of injuries in his college career but was outstanding when he actually played.  So I'm curious if we'll end up signing him.

Cooper signed for $1.5MM which is what 17th overall pick Blake Beavan got from the Rangers last year.  Matt Antonelli got $1.575 from the Padres in 2006 at #17.

That article says Cooper should be able to provide average production from 1B in about 2 -3 years, which lines up fairly well with the end of Overbay's contract. If Cooper pans out, he'll be a good pick. (DUH, but still, the timeline and organizational need is what I based that comment on, relative to the available talent at that pick in the draft).

Appears Dalles will be going to USC.

USC recruiting coordinator Monte Lee said he spoke Friday to three drafted recruits, all of whom said they would be passing on the pros.

That included junior college catcher Justin Dalles, who would be one of the key pieces of next year’s offense. Dalles was picked by Toronto in the 26th round, much lower than he was expected to go.

“To get Justin Dalles, that’s huge for us,” Lee said. “He was a big part of the signing class, just because he’s a power-hitting catcher.”

This article also discusses Crouse being drafted.  Also mentions J.R. Robinson - didnt realize he was Canadian.

Friday's Day 2 saw Lawrie joined by four more active members of the B.C. Premier League -- Carter Morrison, Stosh Wawrzasek, Michael Crouse and Carter Bell -- as well as three former PBL standouts currently playing college ball in the U.S.

The trio of PBL grads selected were J.R. Robinson, Michael Goss and Jordan Lennerton.

Robinson, a 5-10, 180-pound left-handed pitcher from Burnaby, was a 31st round choice of the Blue Jays. He played for the Langley Blaze before accepting a scholarship offer at New Mexico Junior College.
