Excellent starting pitching by Brad Mills, Marc Rzepczynski and Joel Carreno picked up three wins for their teams.  Brian Wolfe started for Syracuse but it was Davis Romero who was the better pitcher on this night., five perfect innings with eleven K's.  Both Lansing and Dunedin scored five runs in their first innings.  Lansing went on to win by eleven but Dunedin lost by seven.  Your first star is eighteen year old Tyler Pastornicky.

Syracuse 5  Buffalo 3

Brian Wolfe started and like last night was victimized by his defense.  In the first inning two errors and two hits led to three runs by Buffalo.  Wolfe followed by pitching two perfect innings, finishing with two unearned runs allowed in three innings.  Syracuse tied the game in the fourth, Hector Luna doubled, Russ Adams singled, Robinzon Diaz singled in a run, Curtis Thigpen singled to load 'em up and then two runs scored on a ground out, error combination.

Davis Romero supplied outstanding relief, five perfect innings, eleven strikeouts.  In the bottom of the eighth wayne Lydon singled to start the inning.  Lydon was sacrificed to second and scored on a single from Danny Sandoval.  Russ Adams singled Sandoval to third and Sandoval scored on an error.   Luna and Adams led the Chiefs with three hits each.  The Chiefs outhit Buffalo 14-2.

Connecticut 1  New Hampshire 2

This was a pitching duel, the teams combined for ten hits.  Brad Mills was the New Hampshire starter.  Mills gave up a run in the third, a solo home run.  In the bottom of the third Eric Kratz hit a solo home run too, to tie the game.  Ryan Klosterman had an RBI single in the fifth to put the Fisher Cats ahead and score Kyle Phillips.

Mills went six innings, allowing just three hits and no walks.  Daryl Harang recorded the save.

David Smith was the only Fisher Cat with two hits.

Tampa 13  Dunedin 7

Dunedin scored five runs in the first inning and lost by seven.  In that first inning Shannon Stewart made the first out, but then a walk, and singles by Cory Patton, Brian Dopirak and Marcus Cabral led to three runs.  Matt Liuzza then hit a two run home run.  But it was back to the bad AJ Wideman on the mound, Wideman gave up seven runs in 3.2 innings.  The bullpen added six runs.  Anthony Hatch hit a solo home run.

Lansing 11  Beloit 0

Lansing also scored five runs in the first inning.  Justin Jackson got it started with a triple.  After John Tolisano walked, David Cooper doubled in a run.  Manny Rodriguez singled in two more to make it 3-0.  CJ Ebarb doubled in another run and later scored on a wild pitch.  It was some more of the same in the second inning, Jackson singled and scored on a Cooper single.  Lansing tacked on a run in the htird and fourth, two in the fifth and one more in the seventh.

Marc Rzepczynski pitched six innings of shutout, three hit, ball.  Zep's ERA is now 2.74.

Rodriguez and Sierra each went 3-5.

Auburn 10  Williamsport 0

Auburn scored six runs in the second inning with seven straight hits.  Adam Amar hit a two run home run in the fourth.  Sobolewski led the hitters with three hits, Bartolo Nicolas had three RBI's.

Joel Carreno was excellent again, six shutout innings.  Carreno's ERA is down to 2.14.

GCL Jays 6  GCL Indians 5

Tyler Pastornicky tripled to lead-off the game and scored on a sac fly by Kyle Gilligan.  Pastornicky doubled to lead-off the third and after a Gilligan single, Justin McClanahan hit a three run home run.  In the fourth Pastornicky singled in Henry Rodriguez who had doubled.  That 5-0 lead kept the Jays in front until they added a run in the sixth.  Again Pastornicky was involved, he and Rodriguez singled, McClanahan then drove in an insurance run with a double.  Pastornicky was 4-5, McClanahan had four RBI's.

3 star selection - lots of candidates tonight

3rd star - Brad Mills and Joel Carreno
2nd star - Marc Rzepczynski and Davis Romero
1st star - Tyler Pastornicky

Jason Burch and Marty McLeary are now on the AA roster, Burch of course pitched in relief tonight.  Neither of them are interesting whatsoever.

Kenny Rodriguez was also sent back down to Dunedin after doing horrific in a short stint in New Hampshire.

22-year old Dan Miller has been promoted from Rookie ball to Dunedin, interestingly enough.  Had a 1.56 ERA in his stint in the GCL.  Anyone have info? Undrafted FA?  Seems weird that he got promoted to High-A while guys like Estanga are in Lansing.

In a rather interesting roster move, Syracuse has placed OF Matt Watson on the disabled list and replaced him with OF Adam Calderone from Dunedin, bypassing New Hampshire OF's Snider, Butler, Patterson, Neilsen and Smith.

Calderone was hitting .282/.354/.457 at Dunedin with 1 error and 3 outfield assists playing mostly right field.

I don't know anything, but if they needed a guy for a day or two he's already there in Dunedin.

2 questions

Does Brian Dopirak have a deal to stay at Dunedin (his home), because given their performances and with an

organisation lacking bats it seems logical to promote Dopirak to NH, Cooper to Dun. and Amar to lans.

Of Joel Carreno, Castillo Perez and Marcus Walden ( Auburn), which pitcher has the best potential?

Romero actually struck out 8 in a row at one point, striking out the side in the 6th and 7th and then the first 2 batters in the 8th.

What I have found impressive with Mills this season is that in each of his three stops so far (A, A+, AA) he has maintained a 3:1 K/BB ratio with strong K numbers at each level.

I was hoping the Jays would trade one of Downs or Ryan at the deadline and promote Davis Romero. There probably would have been a performance downgrade, but trading one of the lefties (especially Downs) may have solved 1 or 2 more glaring weaknesses on the team, and the LH bullpen spot could have been filled internally.

I guess it could still happen a few months from now.

Can't find an up to date major league thread so I'll post here.

A quote from Vernon Wells Sr. talking to Cito as posted on the Jays site at MLB.com.

'Vernon's getting the same injuries I got, but I was 35 when I got them,"

Makes the Wells contract look even more depressing methinks.
