A very special "Live from New York" (it's Saturday night! (it actually was Saturday night (well, Saturday afternoon))) episode of the Boxcast this week featuring Da Box's Big Apple correspondent Alex Obal. Given the circumstances, Alex and I decided to chat about New York fandom and how it differs from being a fan in Toronto. In part 2 we took a cue from Matthew Elmsley and gave our predictions for who will get the playing time at left field and who will get the starts in 2012. Listen here.

The discussion was fruitful and free-flowing, so I'm going to save part 3 (NL East Preview) for next Monday so as not to burden listeners with a huge commitment. Also, we plan on going to a weekly schedule once the season starts so this is a good transition to that. Look for the Boxcast every Monday from now on!

Update: We're in the iTunes Store!

Part 1 is a discussion of New York fandom. Skip to 25:00 for Jays talk about left field and starting pitching. The discussion runs about 45 minutes in total.

Follow the link above to listen. You can also download it by clicking on the arrow on the far right of the embedded Quicktime player and selecting "Save as Quicktime movie", or by right-clicking on the embedded player and selecting "Save Video As..."

You can also subscribe in iTunes. In iTunes, go to "Advanced -> Subscribe to Podcast" and enter this feed:

Please post any technical problems in the comments. I've been in touch with iTunes people (specifically a guy named "Prince"...) and am optimistic we'll FINALLY get this thing into the iTunes Store sooner rather than later.

As always, feedback is welcome and appreciated.

Not showing up in iTunes yet. Previous episodes weren't too prompt either. Will drop a note when it does.

I subscribe to the podcast through iTunes, & have received episodes through the subscription in the past, but this one hasn't come up for me yet.

Well done! It is weird listening to it, the first one I haven't heard in advance. But kudos.

What's that? The Boxcast is NOW IN THE ITUNES STORE???!

Yeah, it doesn't have a picture or description or any of those bells and whistles, but that stuff's easy once it's actually in there. Finally. Go subscribe, guys!

I am listening to the ball game and JPA just crushed a home run.

I know spring training just started and it is just spring training, but you have to be very excited what you see so far.

1. Snider looks pretty good so far.(when he contacts it, he is crushing it)

2. The jays have incredible catching depth.

3. Depth depth depth.

It is very exciting to be a jays fan!  (Plus I love spring training)

The nicest thing about JP's homer, which sailed over the left field wall unlike the last one to right, was that the previous time up Garcia was given a pitch several inches high. Brett Lawrie was simply electrifying today, seeing him turn on the burner as he hit second on his triple. I'd like to see him take some walks, but he doesn't seem to need to.

The only thing I worry about with Lawrie is his health.  I hope that he has a slightly older teammate (and friend) who once in a while says to him something like "Dude, the way you caught that foul pop diving into the stands between the tarp and the railing was amazing, but we really need you to be starting tomorrow against Sabathia...let's grab a cold one"
