The minor league season starts on Thursday but the rosters have been finalized.  Teams are flying in to their cities and ready to meet the media and season ticket holders before the games begin.

Two teams have released their rosters so far.

Rosters:

Buffalo Bisons
AAA International League

  Probable Starters
C Mike Nickeas
1B Dan Johnson
2B Chris Getz
SS Munenori Kawasaki
3B Andy LaRoche
LF Kevin Pillar
CF Anthony Gose
RF Brett Carroll
DH Jared Goedert
Bench Matt Tuiasosopo

  Ricardo Nanita
  Jon Diaz
  Jack Murphy

SP1 Marcus Stroman
SP2 Ricky Romero
SP3 Kyle Drabek
SP4 Liam Hendricks
SP5 Sean Nolin

Bullpen Neil Wagner
  Marcus Walden
  Mickey Storey
  Chad Jenkins
  John Stilson
  Rob Rasmussen
Ryan Tepera

I thought Brad Glenn would be here as the right fielder but I assume he is back in New Hampshire.   The Jays have gone with more internal candidates for the bullpen than some of the free agents they signed in the winter.

New Hampshire Fisher Cats
AA Eastern League

  Probable Starters
C AJ Jimenez
1B Gabe Jacobo
2B Jonathon Berti
SS Kevin Nolan
3B Andy Burns
LF Jonathan Jones
CF Kenny Wilson
RF Michael Crouse
DH Ryan Schimpf
Bench Brad Glenn
  Peter Mooney
  Aaron Munoz
  Yusuf Carter
  Andy Fermin

SP1 Aaron Sanchez
SP2 Deck McGuire
SP3 Casey Lawrence
SP4 Austin Bibens-Dirkx
SP5 Scott Copeland

Bullpen Tyler Ybarra
  Tony Davis
  Randy Boone
  Gregory Infante
  Scott Gracey
  Richard Bleier
  John Anderson

The AA lineup and starters are as expected, few surprises here other than the missing minor league free agents.

DUNEDIN

L Norris, Daniel - 21
L Boyd, Matt - 23
R Hernandez, Jesse - 25
R White, Ben - 25
R Cole, Taylor - 24

R Barnes, Daniel - 24
L Girodo, Chad - 23
R Browning, Wil - 25
R Sikula, Arik -25
L Nieves, Efrain - 24 *
R Champlin, Kramer - 24
R Jackson, Justin - 25 *

Patterson, Kevin -25

Flores, Jorge - 22

Smith, Dwight - 21
Pompey, Dalton - 21
Knecht, Marcus - 23
Newman, Matthew - 25

Not too many surprises here. Mike Reeves jumps over Lansing but we have to see what impact the Kratz promotion had on the rosters. Christian Lopes did get the 2B job and Chris Hawkins is missing.

Lansing Lugnuts
A - Midwest League

  Probable Starters
C Santiago Nessy
1B Matt Dean
2B Dickie Jo Thon
SS Dawel Lugo
3B Mitch Nay
LF Ian Parmley
CF DJ Davis
RF Carlos Ramirez
DH Derek Loveless
Bench Justin Atkinson
  Jorge Saez
  Jason Leblebijian

SP1 Kendall Graveman
SP2 Jeremy Gabryszwski
SP3 Alberto Tirado
SP4 Jairo Labourt
SP5 Tom Robson
  Chase DeJong
  Adonys Cardona
Bullpen Jimmy Cordero
  Brady Dragmire
  Griffin Murphy
  Alonzo Gonzalez
  Roberto Espinosa
  Scott Silverstein

DL Roberto Osuna
  Seth Connor
Phil Kish

As I expected Santiago Nessy is back in lansing and Dickie Thon will be playing 2B.  I thought Jacob Anderson might get a promotion but he did not.

The starting rotation has two tandems, Labourt/Tirado and DeJong/Cardona.  Tom Robson gets his own slot.  Shane Dawson did not make it.

I now have the official rosters from the Jays. There is a DH listed for each team. The DH's are Jared Goedert; Ryan Schimpf; Kevin Patterson; and Justin Atkinson.

The following players are listed as "medical" which I assumes means they are injured:

Liz, Radhames Antolin, Dustin Opitz, Shane Osuna, Roberto
McDade, Mike Meyer, Andrew Kish, Phillip
Korecky, Bobby Fermin, Andy Munoz, Aaron Conner, Seth
Tolleson, Steve Rankin, Pierce
		                                Sweeney, Kellen
                                                Baligod, Nick

In addition Sean Ochinko and Brian Van Kirk are listed with (SUS) after their name which I assume means they are still under suspension.

Thx for this.  Regarding the Bisons, I very much doubt that Carroll will start in the outfield ahead of Tuiasosopo or are you slotting the latter as DH.  Would like to see Jenkins starting and Romero at a lower level....not surprised that Hendricks is in the rotation however.

Every member of that AAA BP looks ML serviceable and with a fragile ML rotation, the jays could really use the Tor-Buff shuttle to rest BP guys - too bad that so many of the BP guys in Toronto don't have options. Not surprised that Hendricks is in the rotation, likely the guy for emergency starts/long man in Toronto - the Todd Redmond role this year. Tyler Ybarra is a guy to watch in the NH BP, could make it to T.O by Sept.

Disappointed in Jacob Anderson not making Lansing, not a good for his prospect status and with the next pick in 2011 the Red Sox took Henry Owens - Ouch!

With the putrid Goins in T.O , I was hoping the Jays would try Burns @ 2nd - perhaps he can't handle it defensively.

Any word on the Dunedin roster?

Liam Hendriks is interesting.  In the minors he has 0.4 HR/9, 1.6 BB/9 7.6 K/9 lifetime. However in the majors it is 1.7 HR/9 2.7 BB/9 5.8 K/9.  Those HR went through the roof and his control went from great to OK.  He missed his age 19 season...I'm assuming Tommy John surgery as that would explain missing a full season.  Still, just 25 this year he could become something useful. If not, well, he was just a waiver wire claim.

That Dunedin roster is from last year. I am pretty sure Dwight Smith Jr. and Dalton Pompey will be there this year.

Where is Mike McDade? Does anyone know?

I added the Dunedin roster. I will be back later with some analysis and details of the players who are injured.

All the rosters are now posted. Who are the major names missing from a roster?

First we have some minor league free agents such as Brian Moran, Shawn Hill and Mike Broadway.

The biggest missing name is Chris Hawkins.

There are many relievers missing such as Dayton Marze, Tucker Donahue and Matt Dermody.
cybercavalier - Monday, March 31 2014 @ 09:35 PM EDT (#284037) #
On missing names, Sean Ochinko is tagged as suspended and Steve Tolleson as on 7-day DL. A question, I realize Canadian catchers are abundant: Martin, Nickeas, George Kottaras, John Suomi, Chris Robinson are all very close or MLB catchers already. Nickeas struggles offensively in Buffalo; In particular could, say, Suomi or Robinson takes Nickeas' roster space in Buffalo if having one Canadian than the other makes minor difference ?
mendocino - Monday, March 31 2014 @ 09:59 PM EDT (#284040) #

Brian Moran was traded to Ana for International cap space

Mike Broadway is listed with signing with the Giants Jan 24 on his milb profile

Hawkins, Donahue & Dermody all listed as active on milb profile.

Marze listed as voluntarily retired

"Disappointed in Jacob Anderson not making Lansing, not a good for his prospect status and with the next pick in 2011 the Red Sox took Henry Owens - Ouch!"

I keep on thinking that I don't think it is our drafting that is the issue.  I think it is our ability to develop players is the bigger issue.  If we drafted Owens and Boston drafted Anderson, we would be complaining about how we should have drafted Anderson.

I checked on some missing players. Chris Hawkins and Shane Dawson are both in extended, organization decision. Dawson is understandable, there was a lot of competition for starting jobs, he was injured last year, and he is still young.

Hawkins is a surprise as he has played two years in Lansing. I can only guess that they are trying to change his swing again and it needs time to get it to work.

Kellen Sweeny?
uglyone - Tuesday, April 01 2014 @ 02:40 PM EDT (#284083) #
Dissappointed that they put 24yr olds jimenez and wilson back in AA. They're much too old for that level. Hope they're promoted quickly if they start well.

I'm a little more understanding of 23yr old burns starting in AA after he took a while to adjust to that level last year....but he did adjust, and should be promoted quickly if he picks up where he left off too.

And by quickly i mean after the first month, not midseason.

Nice to see reeves skip past lansing - but where are his classmates dantzler, frank, and dermody? All in extended?

Also thought they might skip thon past lansing and give lopes another year there, but i don't mind that swap.

Sweeney is on the DL, see the main thread above, at the bottom, for a list of players out for medical reasons.

Dantzler is not listed but he too has a medical issue that held him off the opening day lineups.

I see on Rotoworld that the Jays have signed 3B/1B Juan Francisco who hit 18 HR's for Milwaukee and Atlanta last year in about 350 AB's. Has 32 career HR's in about 700 AB's. Strikes out a ton, though, and isn't a great defender. Only 26. He'll report to Buffalo, at least initially.

Francisco is a good defender, but not a great defender and wasn't much good last year. He has three years of control remaining (super-two) if tendered a contract this fall. He's filler in AAA for the time being. Useful pickup.

Useful pickups are signed to play in Buffalo. Could Toronto send coaching to amend or fix personal performance issue in Buffalo, say a hitting coach to improve Francisco and Tuiasosopo swings ? In other words, is there a designated hitting instructor, say the roving minor league hitting instructor, who is in charge of coaching particular batter(s) in higher minors (Buffalo and New Hamsphire) ?
