Vancouver's game in Spokane was scrubbed.

Dunedin lost to Tampa 10-6 in Game 1 of their best-of-three-series. The D-Jays built up a 5-0 lead after the first with Connor Panas clubbing a three-run homer among his two hits. Jake Thomas was 2-for-5 with two RBI. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and Edward Olivares also had two-hit games. Bo Bichette singled and walked.

Josh DeGraaf delivered a solid start of two-run ball over six frames, scattering a solo homer among five hits and a walk while striking out seven. Alonzo Gonzalez was gonged for two homers in one-third of an inning. Kirby Snead retired all five hitters he faced with one punchout. Jackson McClelland blew the save in the ninth and was charged with the loss in 1-1/3 innings as Phillip Walby could only strand one of two runners he inherited. McClelland gave up four runs, including a two-run homer.

Poor air quality in Spokane led to the postponement of Game 1 between the Indians and Vancouver. All three games are now scheduled to be played in YVR instead with Games 1 and 2 Wednesday and Thursday and Game 3—if necessary—on Friday.

Keith Law has named Vlad Guerrero Jr. as his top MLB prospect of 2017.

Sign of the apocalypse! A few days ago uglyone agrees with Keith Law and today Keith Law agrees with uglyone.

Bo Bichette one of his 7 honorable mentions.

"Bichette, aged 19, outhit Guerrero in Lansing, posting a ridiculous .384/.448/.623 line in low-A, moving up to the Florida State League with his teammate after the MLB Futures Game and continuing to rake at the higher level with a .323/.379/.463 line, striking out just 81 times in total on the year. Bichette is still playing primarily at shortstop, although I think it's more likely he ends up at second base, but wherever he goes his bat is going to carry him."

Law also chose Padres Mackenzie Gore best draftee, but among the 4 others of note:

(Nate) "Pearson threw just 20 innings after signing with the Jays, but they were good ones -- he struck out 24, allowed just 12 baserunners, and didn't allow a run until his penultimate outing of the year. The College of Central Florida product, taken 28th overall in the draft, hit triple digits in a workout on Memorial Day, boosting stock that was already pretty high given his 6-foot-6 frame and solid showing for scouts in big matchups earlier in the spring."

Ben Badler says Toronto is expected to sign one of the top international hitters for the 2018-19 class: SS Orelvis Martinez for more than $3 million. He won't be eligible to sign, though, until July 2/18.

Does anyone have a scouting report on Martinez?
Gerry - Wednesday, September 06 2017 @ 09:31 PM EDT (#348367) #
Well Martinez is still just 15 years old. IIRC BA said that he would likely move to third and was on offense first guy.

But he is 15.

Some more Vlad props from Dave Cameron's chat yesterday:

Q: Is Vlad Jr. bat so special that he could be a 1B with no baserunning value and still be the best prospect?

Dave Cameron: Yes.
