The Fisher Cats racked up 22 hits in their game. Austin Martin, Samad Taylor and Vinny Capra led the hitters. Elvis was in the building. Buffalo won as did Dunedin. Naswell Paulino pitched well. Vancouver were the only losers on Saturday.

Buffalo 8 Rochester 6

Hartford 2 New Hampshire 15

Everett 12 Vancouver 4

Clearwater 4 Dunedin 9

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

The Bisons scored eight runs on eight hits. Richard Urena had three hits and three RBI. Cullen Large drove in two runs. Kevin Smith went 1-3 with a walk and I note that he has passed Christian Colon for the team lead in OPS. Smith's OPS is at 985.

Connor Overton made the start and went five innings with three runs on his record. His ERA is 1.52 and you wonder where he, and the other "older" pitchers, rank in their chances of getting a call-up.

With 22 hits, it would be easier to list who didn't get a hit for the Fisher Cats, "cough" Jordan Groshans, "cough". Austin Martin led the way with five hits. Martin has improved from May to June, his OPS has gone from 731 to 908 and his strikeout rate has dropped from over 30% to just over 20%. Thre of Martins hits were ground balls pulled through the left side. One was a slashed line drive down the right field line and the last was a drive to deep right centre field. Martin is more of an all field hitter, he hasn't shown big power, at least not yet.

Samad Taylor had four hits to boost his average to .324, Vinny Capra also had four hits and is hitting .396. Taylor, like Martin, drove in four runs. Gabriel Moreno hit the only home run, one of his two hits, Otto Lopez had three hits.

Elvis Luciano made his first start in almost a month. He was on a pitch count and just threw 1.2 innings. Maximo Castillo went six innings for the win.

The C's used four pitchers, three gave up multiple runs. The starter was Sam Ryan who hasn't fared well in the starters role. Justin Maese gave up three runs and his ERA is now up to 5.40. This was his third straight appearance where he allowed three runs.

The C's had just six hits, Cameron Eden had half of them going 3-4 and scoring twice.

A six run sixth was just the ticket for the D Jays. Harrison Ray had three hits and four RBI out of the lead-off spot. Mac Mueller and Miguel Hiraldo each had two hits.

Naswell Paulino pitched well, his third consecutive good start. In his last three starts Paulino had thrown 16 innings with just five hits allowed. He has walked seven and struck out seventeen. In this game he went six innings with just two hits allowed.

Three Stars

Third Star - Naswell Paulino

Second Star - Samad Taylor

First Star - Austin Martin

Our position players are doing well in AAA/AA. K Smith and R Urena look like they may get a chance this year.

For AA position players only Moreno and O Lopez are on the 40 man roster so giving them a taste of the Majors makes some sense.

Lucky C's batters. One day after facing a Top 100 prospect in Emerson Hancock, they face a Top 100 prospect in George Kirby.

Both Hancock and Kirby seem likely to be promoted to AA soon.

Gabriel Moreno starting at 3b today.

Call him up, he can't be any worse than Panik has been there.

SWR starting for NH.

Both Everett and Vancouver have similar winning records. Everett has J Rodriguez, Hancock and Kirby playing for them. I cannot think who we have in Vancouver with decent pedigree. Kloff and Van Eyk I suppose.

Thanks PeterG for the G Moreno info. This is interesting. Can he do well at C and 3B? I guess we will see.

Moreno with a double and HR #8. Kevin Smith HR #10.

Moreno's homer was a chip shot just inside the right field foul pole in Manchester.  If you take a close look at his batted ball profile and his EVs, it seems awfully unlikely that it would produce the line that it does.  He does spray the ball around and can hit the ball very hard, and he doesn't strike out.  His wOBA is .462, but I'd venture a guess that his xwOBA is under .400.  Still very good, but not league-leading awesome.  I say this as one of his earliest fans.

Springer was replaced after 3 PA today.

There are signs that Groshans may be starting to heat up. 3/4 so far today including a HR (#3). He seems to be making some adjustments to AA.

It’s clear they’re managing Springer very closely there in the minors. I expect him up either Tuesday or Thursday. Hopefully Tuesday but either works.

The Jays are facing Rogers and Alcantara, the Marlins two best starters. It would be nice to have Springer's bat for those games.

Dunedin faced 15th overall pick Nick Abel today. 4 IP, 0 BB, 8 K's. Only hit, and run, he allowed was Orelvis' 6th HR. 6 is pretty good for the league I thought, so I checked. Yup, only Tampa's Volpe with 8 has more.

Fun sidenote. FG has Volpe, like Samad, with 20 power. Scouting reports can get out of date pretty quickly.

Well one thing with NH is like say Yankee stadium it very much is easy HRs for certain types of hitters. I don’t quite know enough about Taylor and Moreno to know if they’re built to take advantage of it. However from what I’ve seen of recent Taylor home runs it seems like he has clear power to center.

I posted a Moreno HR a short while ago. There is a hotel past the centre field or left centre field fence. Moreno became the 1st Fisher Cat to hit the hotel since Vlad in 2018.
