A grand slam home run by Vinny Capra was enough to get the win for New Hampshire. A three run home run from Danny Jansen was not enough for Buffalo. A two run shot by PK Morris in the ninth got the win for Dunedin. A solo shot by Spencer Horwitz couldn't stop Vancouver from taking a loss. In the FCL Rikelbin De Castro hit his first home run. Another hitter who had been scuffling, Orelvis Martinez, had his second multi hit game in a row.

This is what I noted from yesterday's games.

For Buffalo Casey Lawrence started and gave up four runs in five innings. But his major league experienced relievers were not great. Julian Merryweather allowed a run in two thirds of an inning. Likewise Nate Pearson conceded a run on two hits and finally Rafael Dolis took the loss by giving up a run.

Offensively Danny Jansen hit a three run home run while Otto Lopez and Tyler White had two hits each.

Vinny Capra's grand slam in the third inning gave NH all the runs they needed. Jordan Groshans was out of the lineup for the second day in a row.

The Fisher Cats used five pitchers. Brandon Eisert got the win with two shutdown innings. Eisert was drafted in the 18th round in 2019. The 23 year old lefty has pitched in three levels this year, starting his year in Dunedin. In AA, he has a 3.18 ERA with 14 K's in 11.1 innings and a 1.15 WHIP.

For Vancouver, Alex Nolan was hit around for nine runs in four innings.

Orelvis Martinez continued his revival with two hits. Rafael Lantigua and Mitch Horwitz also had two hits. Horwitz hit his eighth home run.

The Dunedin game was scoreless until the ninth inning. The tie was broken when PK Morris hit a two run home run. Later Mac Mueller singled in the third run. Morris had two hits along with Steward Berroa and Harry Ray.

Nathanael Perez had a strong start, six innings, no runs, four hits, six K's.

Nine runs on seven hits for the FCL Jays. Another of the Jays catching prospects Victor Mesia hit a three run home run in the first inning. Rikelbin De Castro. hit his first home run, another three run shot, in the third inning. De Castro was 2-2 with a walk to bring is BA up to .235, its highest point of the season.

Three Stars

Third Star - Nathanael Perez

Second Star - PK Morris

First Star - Vinny Capra

I hadn't checked in on Samad Taylor in a while.  He's been keeping it going pretty well.  Last night, he played shortstop and went 1-3 with a walk and a K.  His numbers are excellent, fourth in the league in OPS, and extremely similar to those of Riley Greene who was recently promoted to triple A by the Tigers.  Taylor is hitting .297/.384/.520 with a 38/105 W/K in 345 PAs (that W/K is a little better than average for the league).  He is 28/7 stealing bases and has only grounded into 2 DPs.  He is being more selective at the plate; his pitches/PA are up to 4.25.  Presumably, he's hunting for pitches to drive more than he was previously. But his slash line has been helped by an unsustainable .399 BABIP.  He turned 23 last month.

His prospects depend to a significant degree on his defensive development.  If he can play a competent defensive second base, he's got a pretty good chance to hit enough to be a regular.  If he can't play a competent defensive second base, he still has a chance for a career as a left-fielder but that would require continuing offensive development in his plate control.

I don't see expect babip, but Taylor does have a history of a high average. Available stats don't support it. Pulling less this year (40%), but LOOOOW LD % 14.4 Hitting more FB, but his HR% is waaaay up to 17.8% (NH effect or launch angle?) so maybe power will fall back. Mixed info. He may be beating out weak hits with speed, so maybe not ALL luck, but not this good. I think it's still promising after a big layoff and level jump
