NOTES

Buffalo and Scranton each had 11 hits but Buffalo won by ten. Tyler Heineman had the only home run, a three run shot. Davis Schneider reached five times, two doubles, a single, a walk and hit by a pitch. Cam Eden and Ernie Clement had two hits each, Addison Barger walked three times. Orelvis was 0-4. Spencer Horwitz had a three run double.

New Jay Gabe Klobosits threw two shutout innings. Hagen Danner pitched an inning. In July he has a WHIP of 0.43, and hitters are hitting .067 off him. He could be the next man up.

New Hampshire had a 6-2 lead in the fourth but could not hold it. Starter Luis Quinones gave up a two run home run. Alejandro Melean gave up a two run home run. Gabriel Ponce gave up a two run home run. TJ Brock gave up a two run home run and two more solo home runs. Something got into the pitchers water.

Damiano Palmegiani hit his 12th home run, a three run shot. Riley Tirotta had three hits.

Cade Doughty hit a two run home run in the first inning and that was it for runs for the C's. Doughty had two hits as did Jeffrey Wehler who was 2-3 with a walk. He is very hot in BC.

Kevin Miranda started and went five innings. Naswell Paulino took the loss.

In the FCL 19 year old catcher Jonathan Peguero hit his first home run. Peguero missed almost a month from the end of June to July 20th. Peguero has only played eight games and we are still waiting for him to take a walk.

New box fave Aneudi Escanio had an oh-fer. But David Guzman hit his second home run and was 2-4 with three RBI. He is hitting .291 with an OPS of .815.

how's schneider's play in left? whatever the case, you can still sub dalton later in the game on def. i like the cabrera pick up, and short of going after another under performing asset like tyler o'neil (bonus maple points), i think internal solutions (injury/promotions) are likely the best path for this team. should be an interesting few days to see how other teams gun up.

The odd thing with Schneider is that he has massive reverse splits. Over 300 points OPS better vs righties than lefties.

The releases have started. LJ Talley was released by the Bisons.

A lot of good things happening in Buffalo.

They are in 1st place for the 2nd half. So interest would be strong.

Barger looks recovered. Orelvis is adjusting, bb/k is good. I know that he has power. Horwitz seems to have decent speed on the basepaths. C Eden is the defensive OF all teams seem to need. Schneider is having a career year. Danner looks ready for a call up soon.

Soupman, while I agree with you that internal solutions may be the best path for this team, it's not likely as I think the FO feels more pressure to deliver and the media spin if the jays do nothing is going to very negative - I remember I think it was last year (year before?) when the Jays didn't do any buying until late that all the media was spinning that players were upset that the FO was doing much to help the team -a team like the Orioles whose contention window is now opening will probably be better able to defend not doing much.

Darn!no editing - should say "media spin if the Jays do nothing is going to be very negative" and "players were upset that the FO wasn't doing much to help the team"

Sorry, I seldom read before submitting.

CJ Van Eyk started in the FCL today but left after facing two hitters.

Van Eyk starting for the complex Jays.
Pitched May 7 and 13, then was shut down till June 9, then shut down again until today.  Hopes ain't high.

Last night was the 6th game I've seen Schneider in LF. He's caught everything catchable, including a well hit ball in the gap last night. Haven't seen him attempt any throws, because there hasn't been any situation to do so. No bobbles. I'd guess adequate or a bit better would describe the little I've seen so far. He did get thrown out twice on the basepaths last night,. Once not getting back to 2nd quick enough on a liner caught by the shortstop. The other was on a grounder hit to the 3B. He started back to 2nd, but as soon as the 3B threw to 1st, he took off for 3rd.  The return throw to the 3B nailed him. Baserunning that would fit in perfectly with the Jays most nights. :(

Jace Bohrofen, who left after a HBP last night, hit a pinch hit 2 run HR today. FWIW, Kiley McD at ESPN thinks he was one of the steals of the draft.

Apparently C.J. Van Eyk barfed, puked, tossed his cookies behind the mound today according to this tweet from John Brophy.

'@jbrophybaseball Rehabbing FCL Jays starter CJ Van Eyk just lost his breakfast behind the mound, likely as a result of the late morning heat. This sun is fierce today as it is most days this time of year.'

More from John Brophy. 'He tried throwing a pitch after a short delay, didn't look well afterwards and training staff pulled him. Van Eyk faced Raylin Heredia and Aidan Miller.'

Joey Murray has been released. He could never recover from all the injuries.

Jays seem to be struggling to bring pitching prospects back from serious injuries/surgeries ...
scottt - Sunday, July 30 2023 @ 06:20 AM EDT (#432924) #
Not sure if that's a skill, but it shouldn't be surprising.
It's hard to improve in the minors even without serious injuries.
The Covid shutdown hasn't improved things either.

I don't really see much opportunity for Murray on the present team and I'm guessing he had no trade value.

He was throwing 85 mph...
