Tanner Morris hit a grand slam home run in the first inning for Buffalo but the Mets came back to tie the game. Buffalo took the lead in the ninth, but the Mets tied. Buffalo scored again in the tenth but the Mets walked them off in the bottom of the inning. It was a disappointing loss. It was the opposite in New Hampshire. They trailed 8-2 in the fifth inning but scored 12 unanswered runs for the win. Dunedin won both ends of a doubleheader. They hit three home runs in game one, then scored 15 runs in game two with just five hits. They walked 18 times. No such excitement for Vancouver who lost a game in which they had four hits.

NOTES

Buffalo got off to a good start. Tanner Morris came up to bat in the first inning with the bases loaded and he took a 3-2 pitch over the fence for a grand slam. Andrew Bash made the fill-in start and went four innings, two runs allowed. But the Mets continued to chip away and tied the game in the seventh.

That setup Rafael Lantigua to double in two runs in the top of the ninth. But the Mets hit back with two runs off Brandon Eisert in the bottom of the ninth. James Ritchie hit a sac fly in the tenth to put the Bisons back in front. But the Mets hit a walk off home run in the bottom of the tenth. Spencer Horwitz had three hits for the Bisons.

Alejandro Melean did not do well for NH, seven runs allowed in 3.2 innings. Miguel Hiraldo hit a two run home run in the first inning but the Fisher Cats trailed 8-2 in the fifth. Alan Roden hit a solo shot in the fifth to make it 8-3. Hiraldo came up again in the sixth with the bases loaded and he hit a grand slam. Steward Berroa then hit a three run home run also in the sixth go give NH a 10-8 lead. NH added three in the seventh and one in the eighth.

Hiraldo was 3-5 with six RBI. Roden was 3-4 with two walks. He singled, doubled and homered. Andres Sosa had three doubles

Spokane scored two runs in the first inning and that was enough for the win. Vancouver have lost three in a row now. Hunter Gregory started and took the loss. Estiven Machado homered for Vancouvers only run. The C's had just four hits.

The D Jays hit three home runs in their first game. Angel Del Rosario hit his fifth, Bryce Arnold his second and Jackson Hornung his first. Trent Palmer started as part of his rehab, he just got four outs. Alex Amalfi pitched the next 3.2 innings to pick up the win.

After hitting home runs in game one, Dunedin scored nine runs in the first inning of game two without a home run. They added four more in the second, again without a home run. In total they walked 18 times. Nick Goodwin was 2-3 with a walk and four RBI. Jace Bohrofen was 1-2 with three walks and three RBI. Tucker Toman walked four times.

Ooof, what are they putting in the food in NH? Leo Jimenez is 215 lbs now? Hiraldo is 197 lbs? I remember when they were small, skinny prospects working their way up. Looks like they’re finally coming of age. Really great to see Roden’s performance as well. Hopefully, this is Beltre’s wake up year; he’s younger than the competition in Dunedin and can afford to waste a year learning to develop pro habits. Hoping to see him put on 20 lbs by next year and really lock in.

What a year for Roden. 150 wRC+ in high-A (323 PA), 149 wRC+ in AA (126 PA). 19 SB total.

Roden is now up to a 166 wRC+ in New Hampshire after last night. A lot of guys in New Hampshire have been helping themselves with strong 2nd-half offensive performances. Since July 1:

Miguel Hiraldo: 159 wRC+
Leo Jimenez: 143
Will Robertson: 140
Steward Berroa: 155

Watch Roden's 5th homer at double A over at milb.com- link on his player card. It's a blast. You can forget the 40 future power potential suggested by fangraphs at the beginning of the year. The development people have helped him unlock his power potential by adjusting his stance to hold his hands high. It's not exactly Yaz's, but something like that. I liked the Roden draft, and I am now excited to see what he might do.

Alan Roden was ranked around 30 on most preseason Jay's prospect lists and left off a few entirely.

Angel Del Rosario is hitting leadoff for Dunedin. Never heard of him. He is up to 286/359/446 with 23 Sb. He had 40 swipes last year. Aged 20. He has 5 hr and is 6ft tall, unlike many of the smurphs the Jay's seem to collect from the DR.

One impressive stat is that even as Roden has seen an uptick in his power at AA, his BB:K rate has stayed excellent. He has 19 walks and 19 strikeouts in 132 PA at that level.

Orelvis with another 3 walks last night and something caught my eye when looking at his stats at MiLB.com. He is seeing by far the most P/PA in his career and that has only increased since moving up to AAA - 3.887 in NH and now 4.2 in Buffalo.

A 108 wRC+ is not entirely impressive on its own, but when looking at how he is doing in comparison to a number of 21 to 23-year-old, Top 100 prospects he is out-performing a lot of big names while still one of the youngest players in AAA. All-in-all it has been a very encouraging season.
