Hey, I had to use that headline at least once. Yesavage had eight K's in six shutout innings in his highly touted matchup against Phillies prospect Andrew Painter. Arjun Nimmala homered again in Vancouver's loss. Buffalo had a nice win while New Hampshire lost in extra innings.

Buffalo 8 Iowa 1

Portland 5 New Hampshire 3 - 10 innings

Hillsboro 12 Vancouver 2

Clearwater 1 Dunedin 10

Three Stars

Third Star - Rafael Sanchez

Second Star - Arjun Nimmala

First Star - Trey Yesavage

NOTES

Two Buffalo catchers, Ali Sanchez and Christian Bethancourt each hit three run home runs.

Easton Lucas and Jacob Barnes combined to pitch 7.1 innings, four hits allowed. Eric Pardinho got the last five outs, three via strikeout.

The New Hampshire game was a pitching contest, four of the eight runs came in the tenth inning. Rafael Sanchez had another good start, 5.2 innings, six hits, two walks, three K's, one run. Through five starts Sanchez has a 1.35 ERA and a 1.05 WHIP. The K's are a little light, 24 in 26.2 innings. Sanchez made four starts in AA last season with a 2.28 ERA. Give him another month in AA and then have him take a shot in AAA.

Charles McAdoo hit his first home run of the season. Teams in the northeast are finally seeing some OK weather. The weather hasn't been a problem for Yohendrick Pinango, he had two hits, his third multi hit game in a row and he is hitting .325.

Vancouver have a fifth starter problem. Kevin Miranda started, took the loss, as the C's gave up 12 runs. It's a problem that a certain Trey Yesavage could solve. Arjun Mimmala had two of the C's six hits. One was his sixth home run of the season.

Thursday's Dunedin game was the pitching highlight of the night, Trey Yesavage versus Phillies prospect Andrew Painter. Yesavage and the Jays came out on top. Yesavage threw six shutout innings, four hits, no walks, eight K's. Yesavage went so long that Gage Stanifer only threw two innings. Stanifer was not at his best, 50 pitches, two hits and two walks in two innings.

Two hitters who have spent a lot of time in Dunedin, Manny Beltre and Tucker Toman, each homered off Painter.

I see Dave Hudgens is a hitting coach for the FCL team...that's quite the drop.

Bonilla is still only 19. You have to hope he can right the ship. Jays need an international stud; it's been awhile.

I expect more out of the pitchers than the hitters. For recent draftees, we have King, Messina, and Guthrie. Hechavarria, Omosako as well.

The youngest player in Aiden Taggart, a Canadian IFA signed in September. Born in October 2006.

By my count the Jays are 8 players over the allowed max of 165 domestic players (DSL doesn't count).

They could easily slide about 4 players to the 60-day IL but may have to cut 4 before the FCL officially opens on Saturday.

Could also lead to a little roster shuffling with the pitching.

#BlueJays top prospects are out to an impressive start and there’s more good news coming off rehabs soon:

Landen Maroudis (#8) should return to games within the next few weeks and Brandon Barriera (#14) should follow soon after.

Encouraging things happening on the pitching side

Arjun Nimmala (@BlueJays) is the youngest regular (19 years, 197 days) in the Northwest League.

After this homer, the @vancanadians shortstop is also the circuit's home run leader!

That is some easy power. That homerun swing looked like a 3/4 loft wedge into the green.

Matheson also had some more info from followup questions:
-Jays in no rush to push Nimmala up. If he gets month in AA by EOY, everyone will be happy.
-He thinks another start or two for Yesavage before he's promoted and Stephen soon after

If he keeps hitting like this i hope they push him a bit faster than that - an even split in time in A+ and AA this year would put him in a very nice position. He could head into next season with lots of AA experience already and be ready to move up fairly quickly.

I don't mind not rushing him, because he has things to work on that we don't see in the batting line. He's swinging a ton at pitches outside the zone still; he's just very good at doing damage on the ones inside it.

On top of that, he's still learning to play big-league shortstop. Once some of the multitude of Jays shortstops in the upper minors on the IL come off of it, Vancouver is the best place for him to be able to play SS every day. If they promote Beltre, they're fighting for reps that way too.

I hope he ends the year in AA. But I am also not bothered by him moving slow.
