Victor Arias did his best to get a win for New Hampshire but to no avail. He had four hits and eight total bases. New Hampshire could not execute and lost in twelve innings. Bryce Arnold was hot for Vancouver and they did get a win. Buffalo lost and Dunedin were rained out.

All eyes were on a pair of pitchers on Thursday. Adam Macko was wild again for Buffalo and doesn't look major league ready yet. And speaking of not being major league ready, Alek Manoah wasn't great for New Hampshire. But returning from surgery is not a simple exercise, lets see if he can improve next time out.

Buffalo 1 Worcester 2

Reading 3 New Hampshire 2 - 12 innings

Hillsboro 1 Vancouver 4

Palm Beach at Dunedin - postponed

Three Stars

Third Star - Nick Goodwin

Second Star - Bryce Arnold

First Star - Victor Arias

NOTES

Buffalo played a low offense game. Riley Tirotta homered in the eighth to tie the game at one. But Nate Eaton homered off Joe Mantiply in the bottom of the inning and that was it. Just three hits for the Bisons.

Adam Macko started and was wild, as usual. He walked five in four innings and struck out four. He threw 49 strikes and 38 balls. Obviously he needs to get more in command of his pitches and he needs that before he could be considered for a call-up.

New Hampshire also played a low offense game. They took a 3-2 lead to the ninth but a two out hit tied the game for the Phils. That sent the game to extra innings. NH had the winning run on third base with one out in both the tenth and eleventh innings but could not get the run home. That let the Phils take the lead for good with a sac fly in the twelfth.

Victor Arias has been really heating up with NH and on Thursday he tripled twice, singled twice and scored two runs. The first time he scored when Jevon Ward homered. It was Ward's second home run this week and he is having a hot start to August with his OPS over 1200 for the month. Jackson Hornung had two hits and he is keeping his average well above .300 at . Arias has his AA average up to .291 and his OPS is 930. Arias has eleven hits in his last six games and six of those went for extra bases.

Alek Manoah started and he pitched into the fourth inning. The Phils had five hits off him and he walked three with two K's. Obviously he needs more rehab starts.

Vancouver had a pair of two run innings. In the third inning Bryce Arnold scored on an error which was followed by an RBI single by Arjun Nimmala scoring JR Freethy. In the eighth inning Arnold singled in two more runs. Arnold was 3-3 with a walk. Nick Goodwin also had three hits. Edinson Batista threw five shutout innings for the win.

Its gonna be interesting to see how Roden and Schreck develop. They put up similar type overall numbers, with one big difference - Schreck gets there with more power but more Ks, while Roden gets there with middling power but very few Ks. From what i gather both have similar athleticism and defensive upside tok. Not sure if either of them has any notable platoon splits.

Ten K's in five innings for Stanifer.

Stanifer, Yesavage, and King are all top-15 in K% in all of the minors. Fantastic stuff.

Trying to figure out what inning standard you used Glevin - using FanGraphs minor league leaderboard with a 20 IP minimum I get King #5, Yesavage #7, Garkow #22, Stanifer #45. Very impressive, but not top 15. Switch to 40 IP minimum (just qualifies these guys) you get King #3, Yesavage #4, Garkow #8, Coleman #11, Stanifer #19. 5 in the top 20 is sweet, out of 1,374 minor league pitchers with 40+ IP. 4 of the 5 pitched in A+ or higher, only King hasn't. If these guys can build up their endurance and keep K'ing guys without losing control the future looks bright indeed.

Saw someone post it on twitter so assumed it was true. Apparently not but still great! Yesavage pitched in relief. He was good but not quite as sharp as usual. Jays getting him used to potential bullpen spot if needed?

They stretched Yesavage out to 5 innings after an opener. He had 0 walks and 9 strikeouts again. I'm guessing that his next outing may be in Buffalo.
