NOTES

CJ Van Eyk stated for Buffalo and he didn't put in a claim on a major league spot. He gave up six runs in four innings. Adam Macko again pitched out of the pen, he walked one and struck out one in his one inning.

Eloy Jimenez and Yohendrick Pinango each had two hits. Jimenez in particular has continued his hot spring training. He is hitting .375. Josh Kasevich had a rough day. Twice he came to the plate with the bases loaded and one out and twice he hit into a double play.

Vancouver trailed 4-0 in the sixth inning. They fought back to take a 5-4 lead in the ninth only for Juanmi Vasquez to give up a three run walk off home run in the bottom of the inning. Colby Holcombe had started and he was charged with three runs in 2.2 innings

The C's scratched out three runs to start the comeback, two scored on sac flies and one on a wild pitch. Manuel Beltre homered in the eighth to tie the game. In the ninth Carter Cunningham doubled to score Alexis Hernandez who had walked. That set the team up for the ninth inning disappointment.

Alexis Hernandez had two hits and two walks. Manuel Beltre homered and hit a sac fly.

Jake Casey has gone on the 7 day IL after one game played.

Looking forward to a bigger sample size.

Nolan Perry has increases his velo. I will follow him closely and hope he advances fast.

Nimmala is showing his power. Also he had 17 SBs last year but 9 in 2024. It is too early to tell if he can become a 20/20 or higher player.

Josh Kasevich had been off to a pretty good start to 2026 prior to yesterday- with 3 doubles, 3 walks and 3 strikeouts and a slash line that fits those numbers.  Yesterday he went 0-4 with two GIDPs.  The first one was quite painful.  The Bisons had scored 2 runs and had the bases loaded with 1 out.  Kasevich hit the ball at 102 mph, but with an LA of -25, and the GIDP ensued.  Evidently he needs to work on his situational hitting- there are times when an LA of 37 degrees is better than -25 and vice versa. He has the oomph to get the ball deep enough for a sacrifice fly even if he is under it a bit.

Source: Japanese right-hander pitcher Tomoya Kinjo is in agreement with the Toronto Blue Jays for the current international signing period, pending a physical.

Kinjo, 23, reaches 97 mph with his fastball and also features a changeup, curveball, and sinker.

Re: Perry, I was noticing that too. We'll have to see how it plays up over a larger sample size, but he has increased spin and movement on his breaking balls as well. He was looking like a breakout prospect before the injury.

Karson Ligon is worth a watch too.

Also Daniel Guerra 22 years old, throws hard but probably needs to develop the stamina to eventually throw 100+ pitches in a game. V good 1st game in a higher level.

No Buffalo game today. If you look out your window (in the GTA) you know why.

In New Hampshire it was 35F, 2C at game time. The pitchers are having trouble. In the seventh inning there have been 17 walks, six hit batters, six wild pitches. The Fisher Cats have 12 runs on 4 hits.

The game is in Portland, Maine, not NH.

Dunedin in a rain delay, probably the end of Barriera's night. He was sitting 91-93, topped out at 94, lots of ground balls, threw lots of strikes, gave up two earned on five singles. Not exactly a return in triumph, but I think the Jays will take it.

Johnny King made his high A debut tonight. He needed 32 pitches to get through the first inning and so was pulled. A short debut indeed. He walked two but 17 strikes and 15 balls is not good for long term pitching.

While only a couple of innings of data, there are some positives with Barriera's performance, such as good spin on all his pitches. It's possible they have told him to not rush into throwing as hard, as well, and/or the weather played an impact, given reports he was throwing 96+ in the spring. If he can stay healthy, I still think he has the arm talent, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him converted into a high impact reliever.
