NOTES

Buffalo pitchers held Syracuse to three hits. CJ Van Eyk went six innings with just two hits allowed. However he only struck out one. Pitchers who don't strike out hitters can tend to see their results vary a lot depending on whether the ball finds a fielder or not.

Josh Kasevich had a big spring but started the regular season slowly. He homered in the first inning and added an RBI double in the third. Charles McAdoo also had two hits. On the other hand RJ Schreck was 0-5 and is hitting .122.

Richard Gallardo went four shutout innings for NH but as soon as Alex Amalfi replaced him Portland scored two runs. And that was enough for the win. For the offense Eddie Micheletti has cooled off since is hot start while Jackson Hornung had another hit and is hitting .310. He made it to AAA last season and could be there soon again.

Vancouver were no hit until the ninth inning. They managed to get three hits in the ninth but not enough for the win. Arjun Nimalla was hitless and is now hitting .200. To be fair the only C's hitter who is hitting well is Carter Cunningham, not counting Dub Gleed who has just arrived.

For Dunedin Aldo Gaxiola was hitless in five games coming into Saturdays game one. He homered in his first at bat and later doubled, driving in three runs total. Enmanuel Bonilla continued his fine start, hitting his first home run of the season. Eric Snow also is hitting well, he had two hits and two RBI and is hitting .368.

Karson Ligon pitched well in his first game and that earned him a start in game two. He struggled with his command and was charged with four runs. The three pitchers who followed didn't do much better.

Yorman Licourt homered in game two, his third. He added a single and a walk.

Can Eyk’s stat line looks great, but that Syracuse lineup looks weak. Would be great to see a couple more strong starts from him. Maybe he’s like so many of the rest of us and will improve with age.

Van Eyk and Rogers are very much like Estrada. Good depth guys to have but hard to see them more as swingmen/long relievers. That's still a huge improvement on the pitching Jays have developed in last decade.

I mentioned the one strikeout for Van Eyk. Thats tough to get to work in the major leagues.

There was good news for the three shortstops in the system today.  Kasevich doubled and walked in four trips.  He now has 5 doubles and 1 homer in 44 PAs along with 5 walks and 6 strikeouts.  Those are sustainably good numbers from a middle infielder.  Nimmala has walked 3 times in 3 trips so far today, and Parker had a very good offensive game today (as well as turning a 6-3 DP).  Parker is hitting the ball hard and has a 7/7 W/K so far.  It looks to me like he should make it to Vancouver by the beginning of summer.

Lots of good news there.

Also, Barriera's heater was up 1 MPH from his first outing, averaging 93. His slider is nasty. He's still primarily throwing two pitches through the first two games.
