The affiliates had some good pitching performances on Sunday. Chris McElvain pitched six shutout innings to get New Hampshire a win in their first game. Newly signed Jack Nedrow also threw six shutout innings, in his case for Dunedin. Daniel Guerra struck out ten hitters for Vancouver. All three had good bullpen support to get the win. Buffalo and New Hampshire in game two lost.

NOTES

The Worcester bullpen held Buffalo to three singles and no runs. Austin Voth started and pitched well but Pat Gallagher, who had been going well, was charged with three runs.

In the first New Hampshire game Chris McElvain threw six shutout innings with four K's. Eddie Micheletti hit his sixth home run, a solo shot. Victor Arias singled in Adrian Pinto with the other run. NH had just five hits.

In the second game Alex Amalfi made the spot start. He did well for three innings but gave up a couple of runs in the fourth. Nate Garkow, who like Gallagher, had been pitching well, gave up three runs in the seventh. When you start the inning with three walks and then hit a batter, its hard to escape.

The Fisher Cats were held to four hits, Jay Harry and Nick Goodwin each doubled and singled to account for all four hits.

Daniel Guerra had an unusual start, he pitched 3.2 innings, or eleven outs. Ten of the eleven came via a strikeout. Because of the strikeouts his pitch count was high, 74 for 3.2 innings. Guerra was followed by Danny Thompson Jr, usually a starter. Both Guerra and Thompson were charged with one run each.

The C's hit three home runs. Alexis Hernandez hit his third, a solo shot. Carter Cunningham's ninth and Manuel Beltre's third were each two run home runs. Peyton Williams, who should be in AA, had three hits and Kendry Chirinos had two.

Two Dunedin pitchers combined on a five hit shutout. Jack Nedrow started after being signed earlier this week. He pitched six innings mixing five pitches. His FB averaged 90.5 mph. He did get 11 whiffs on 40 swings. In total he threw 72 pitches so 40 swings suggests the hitters thought what they were seeing was hittable. He did a good job keeping them off balance with five K's.

With Brandon Barriera and Brayden Heidel going on the 7 day IL, the Jays promoted Edgar Gallegos from the FCL. He followed Nedrow with three shutout innings. Gallegos had appeared in two games in the FCL with mixed results. That didn't matter on Sunday, he just allowed one hit in his three innings. Gallegos also threw five pitches and his FB averaged 91.8 mph. He had five whiffs on 21 swings.

Aldo Gaxiola hit his fifth home run, a two run one in the ninth inning. Juan Sanchez had two hits including an RBI double.

Sussex County Miners@SCMiners

The Toronto Blue Jays organization has purchased the contract of Blake Purnell from the Sussex County Miners.

After making just one start in a Miners uniform, Blake is already heading to affiliated baseball — and we couldn’t be more excited for him.

The 6’3” right-hander out of Boynton Beach, FL, enters his second full season of pro baseball after spending the last season and a half with the Milwaukee Milkmen of the American Association, where he appeared in 46 games with 21 starts.

In 2025, Blake posted a 4.73 ERA across 51.1 innings with 45 strikeouts.

Team-leading third quality start from RHP Chris McElvain to power New Hampshire's 2-0 shutout win.

It's McElvain's third QS in his last four outings, his first scoreless start of the year.

Conor Larkin with his league-leading seventh save, he's done it in seven straight games.

Parker's hitting line at 19 in A looks a lot like Nimmala's hitting line at 18 in A....except with a better walk rate but without the elite power.

And as far as I can tell their defense is probably comparable but with any edge there probably going to Nimmala.

I'd have a hard time putting Parker ahead of Nimmala at the moment tbh.

Mathesond is, as always, so very kind.  Having Valenzuela as the #29th best prospect does absolutely nothing for BA's credibility.  Here in Toronto, we've seen him plenty.  He'd be a perfectly fine everyday catcher.

Turning to matters of opinion,  I don't know where Nolan Perry would fit overall on my list, but I'd definitely have him as my second ranked pitcher behind Yesavage. Adrian Pinto would have made my top 30 comfortably, and maybe my top 10.  My Blue Jay top 15 is a better group than any time in the last decade, I think. Even when Guerrero Jr. and Bichette were top prospects, the supporting cast wasn't very deep according to my recollection.

not much to care about here other than the tiny sample Valenzuela (whose mlb stats are obviously more significant at this point), and Clase's injury-interrupted season.

It would seem very, very easy to drop the likes of Tirotta/Lantigua as soon as they want to promote the likes of Keys/Bohrofen/Micheletti, who are a bit old for AA already.

Coffey has finally started to show signs of life, but has a long way to go.

OF Burgos (23): 85pa, 14.1b%, 14.1k%, .230bip, .194avg, .083iso, 62wrc+

the great year for Keys continues unabated - his ridiculous power surge was never going to last but now that his iso is back to a more sustainable level he's still putting up an elite line overall.

Harry is hitting but it sure seems to be mostly babip. Then again he's showing a bit of pop with a solid .220iso so his line isn't completely empty.

Rock solid start for Pinto across the board.

Parker decent enough for a catcher, with some power potential there left to untap.

Bohrofen might be banged up at the moment i'm not sure, but his line is awesome and definitely promotion worthy.

The babip gremlins have come for Micheletti lately, but his overall line is still very solid despite the babip that should bounce back a bit. Goodwin also with a very solid line that's probably been hampered a bit by the babip gods.

Toman's line has come back down to earth with the babip drop, and the babip is still probably too high. I'd say that it's likely that Beltre's line is probably more promising with the lower K rate, more power, and the contrasting babips.

Wouldn't be surprised to see Duran back playing here as soon as tommorrow.

Fantastic signing by the Jays - Josué Chacoa. His issue was faking his age - a pretty common thing to happen. Seems he is actually 19, not 16. Still makes him the equivalent to a US prosect leaving JC. So if the bonus is low then it could be a WOW signing in the end. He has a 100 mph arm at SS. If his bat is any good I suspect he'll stay at SS, but if not then the mound makes sense. If his bat is really good and fielding not then he could move to the OF or 3B easily. Kind of surprised he is able to sign already given he was handed a 1 year suspension, or maybe it is an agreement to sign once that suspension is over.

The Jays have 28 better prospects than Brandon Valenzuela? Wow, must be an incredible system.

Holden Wilkerson at #17?

I've heard zero buzz on that guy.

I wonder if they have concluded that Keyes is missing something he'd need to try out corner outfield. With first and third basically locked in for the Jays for a while, McAdoo and especially Keys turn into pure trade bait because they're blocked. If Keyes is actually that good they ought to explore positional versatility (of course, they likely know something I don't)

Holden Wilkerson was a 18th round pick in '24, 7.73 ERA in college with 12.2 K/9 vs 8 BB/9 (ie: great arm, no clue where the ball is going). Last year he had a 6.35 ERA in rookie/A ball 3.2 BB/9 vs 8.5 K/9 so improving. This year in A+ though...wow. 2.28 ERA in 27 2/3 IP 9 BB 31 K 2 HR. 2.9 BB/9 vs 10.1 K/9 is a good prospect. No idea on pitches or quality of them, but clearly he got the map of the strike zone and learned it.

Sam Shaw 🇨🇦 began a rehab assignment with the FCL #BlueJays today. (1/3, 2 RBI)

He was in the midst of a breakout season last year, earning a promotion to A+ Vancouver, before a blood clot issue ended his season. Today was his return to game action.

Holden Wilkerson mostly used a 4 seam FB 97mph and cutter last year in Dunedin. Also has but rarely uses Sinker, changeup, curve and slider. This info from gameday.

Messina had another good outing today. With Barriera and Heidel both on the IL I could see him moving across town if he does this again (his next turn falls on a Monday so might as well let him stay on routine then make the move)

Thanks for the Wilkerson info
