Buffalo won a rain shortened game. Sean Keys hit his first home run, a two run home run in the third inning. He also added a double. William Simoneit also had two hits. Jay Harry is still handling AAA without a problem, he had a double in three trips.
The Mets racked up nine hits off CJ Van Eyk but he held them to three runs in 5.2 innings.
New Hampshire had nine hits and hit two home run but it was a wild pitch to led to the winning run scoring. The home runs came from Nick Goodwin, his seventh, and Carter Cunningham, his second. Both were two run shots. Cunningham has a .905 OPS in his few games since promotion. Victor Arias had a double and a walk and he scored the winning run but he hasn't found his form yet. arias was activated off the IL on May 6th so in a month his average is .231 and his OPS is .740.
Austin Cates made the start but only lasted 3.2 innings. Four hits and four walks led to four earned runs.
Vancouver got off to a good start as Tucker Toman went deep in the first inning. Three singles, a walk and an error gave Vancouver three more in the second inning. But Gilberto Batista couldn't hold it down, he was charged with five runs in three innings.
The C's went back ahead with two runs in the sixth. But Everett scored four off Trace Baker in the seventh. Game over.
The C's outhit Everett 11-7. Toman had his two hits, a walk and a sac fly. Sam Shaw, Eric Snow, Manny Beltre and Kendry Chirinos all had two hits.
The Jays catching corps are providing great numbers this season. In AAA William Simoneit and Willie MacIver are both hitting well. Simoneit has an OPS of .891 while MacIver's OPS is .742. And that doesn't count Brandon Valenzuela. Both Simoneit and MacIver are veterans at 29 years old. In AA Aaron Parker, drafted by the Jays in 2024, has an OPS above .800 while free agent signing Patrick Winkel is over .900. Vancouver has "recently arrived from the IL" Edward Duran and Jacob Sharp who is hitting .281. Sharp is 24 and came to the Jays from Seattle in the Yimi Garcia trade in 2024. The Jays and C's had enough catching that they released Hayden Gilliland. Dunedin has 26 year old Adam Hackenberg who has plenty of AAA experience and so is hitting well over .300 in A ball. The "hotness" takes a break there as neither Will Cresswell or Juan Rosas are hitting well. In the FCL the Jays have three catchers who are hitting over .300, Franklin Rojas, Reynel Campos and Giaconino Lasaracina. And all of this ignores CJ Stubbs and Alex Stone, both of whom are on rehab or recently returned from rehab.
So the Jays have good hitting catchers but what does that mean? At the AAA level they have subs that could be added to the active roster and then removed when required. Aaron Parker, Edward Duran, Jacob Sharp and the FCL guys are the ones to watch. Catcher development is often slower than regular hitter development so its not unusual for a catcher to be 26 or older before they hit the major leagues.
