What I'm getting at here is "whose perspective do you naturally watch the game from," or "who are you thinking along with," and maybe a bit of "which do you enjoy more, 470-foot homers, or strikeouts where the hitter falls down." Stuff like that.
Voted for the batter.  A Tim Raines triple to left-center is my favourite play in the game.  By the end of this year, an Anthony Gose triple to left might be in contention...
Pitcher...I'm a sucker for a pitch sequence that ends with the batter swinging at a pitch in the dirt or way outside the zone.
I picked "batter" because of a tendency to root for the underdog, and it's more likely the batter makes an out than reaches base safely - in most matchups, anyway.
Funny, I have similar reasons for getting to the exact opposite result. It's a game of cat and mouse. Anyone who naturally sides with the cat is obviously deranged.
As in, the pitcher is the cat and the batter is the mouse? I don't really see it that way, since the pitcher has to come to the batter. The batter lies in wait for a pitch he can drive.
I do see your point, though.
