The affiliates won five out of nine Monday. The highlights were a walk-off win, a come-from-behind victory and a slugfest in the Dominican. The low points were a doubleheader sweep and a come-from-ahead loss.

Buffalo 6 Scranton/Wilkes-Barre 2

Moosic, PA
- Matt Boyd (2-1, 2.37) bounced back from his Boston bashing with seven strong innings of two-run ball on six hits and a walk against the Yankees affiliate. He surrendered a solo homer to Robert Refsnyder and uncorked two wild pitches but he struck out eight and got six ground ball outs for a Game Score of 64. Blake McFarland and Bobby Korecky each pitched a one-hit frame to finish things up.

Luke Scott
started off the second inning with a home run and Josh Thole would drive in another with a single. Andy Burns socked another leadoff homer in the fourth and Melky Mesa would follow with an RBI double. Mesa started another two-run inning for the Bisons in the eighth with a double to drive home a Jonathan Diaz ground-rule extra-bagger. Mesa would come home on a Ramon Santiago single. Brad Glenn was the Herd's hit-leader with three and Mesa was the on-base leader with two doubles and two walks. Diaz and Matt Hague also had two-hit performances. Scott had a walk to go along with his big knock. Thole and Alex Hassan were on base twice with a single and a walk. Caleb Gindl struck out in his only at-bat.

New Hampshire 9 New Britain 1

Manchester, NH
- One run in the first, three runs in the third and five runs in the fifth put New Hampshire back over the .500 mark. Ryan Schimpf drove in the first five runs with two RBI doubles and a three-run home run, his 11th of the season. Kevin Nolan doubled home two runs, K.C. Hobson doubled home one and Ian Parmley had a run-scoring triple. Schimpf and Parmley both had three hits on the night with Parmley stealing a base. Dalton Pompey, Jon Berti and Dwight Smith Jr. all had two hits in the first three spots of the batting order with Berti walking and swiping a bag. Jack Murphy added a double but Shane Opitz went 0-for-4.

John Anderson (4-3, 4.41) allowed the Rockies affiliate to go roundabout the bases only once on seven hits and three walks over seven innings. Yes sir, he struck out three and got seven of his 13 outs in play on the ground to wind up with a Game Score of 59. Jimmy Cordero and Chad Girodo pitched a perfect eighth and ninth respectively.

Lakeland 2 Dunedin 1 (Game 1 - 21 Innings)

Lakeland, FL
- Alonzo Gonzalez (0-2) was taken deep by the only batter he faced to put an end to this marathon. To quickly recap, Sean Reid-Foley started this one and threw a two-hitter while striking out two over five scoreless innings. Jeremy Gabryszwski went the next six frames and gave up just one run on four hits and a walk while whiffing six and inducing seven ground ball outs. Brady Dragmire tossed two-hit ball over three shutout frames while punching out six. Alberto Tirado walked one and plunked a couple but struck out two to put up a pair of zeros. Matt Dermody averaged a hit allowed and a strikeout for his four innings before the good times ended.

Anthony Alford finished this game with four hits in nine at-bats, including a double. Rowdy Tellez had a double, two singles and two walks (one on purpose) in a 3-for-7 effort. Emilio Guerrero and Martin Medina had two hits apiece. L.B. Dantzler doubled and walked while Derrick Loveless had an extra-bagger. Dickie Joe Thon was 0-for-6 with a walk and a sacrifice bunt. Richard Urena was 0-for-8 with a sac bunt and Matt Dean was 0-for-9 but his first-inning ground out brought in Alford with Dunedin's lone run.

Lakeland 9 Dunedin 2 (Game 2 - 9 Innings)

The Tigers affiliate busted this one open in the middle innings against Jairo Labourt (2-7, 4.71) to break a 1-1 tie. The lefty was lambasted for 12 hits and a walk, leading to eight runs over five innings. Three of the runs were unearned on a Matt Dean error at third base. Labourt got 10 ground ball outs but did not strike out anybody. Jackson Lowery stranded two runners for Labourt but did surrender a run of his own on three hits and a walk. Proving it's better not to have J.L. as initials in this one, John Kravetz walked one and struck one out in a scoreless ninth.

A Richard Urena RBI single in the third and an Emilio Guerrero run-scoring knock in the ninth provided Dunedin with its two runs. Mitch Nay and L.B. Dantzler had two hits apieice with Nay also getting a walk. Dean singled and walked and Jorge Saez had a double. Derrick Loveless, Rowdy Tellez and Jorge Flores put up a goose egg in 12 collective at-bats.

Great Lakes 9 Lansing 5

Lansing, MI
- The Dodgers affiliate scored four times in the first and pulled away with a five-run fifth to upend the Lugnuts. Starlyn Suriel (5-4, 3.21) was slapped around for all nine runs on 11 hits and a walk. Two errors by D.J. Davis in center field and another by Jason Leblebijian at third base made four of those runs unearned for Suriel, who struck out four. Mark Biggs walked a couple and plunked a batter but got five ground ball outs over two scoreless innings. Phil Kish also pitched two scoreless frames by working around two hits and a walk with a pair of K's.

Christian Vazquez was one of four Lugnuts to have a mulit-hit effort in a losing cause Monday.

The Lugnuts tried to fight their way back with a Ryan McBroom RBI double and a Dawel Lugo single in the first inning and Davis lifted a sacrifice fly in the second to make it a one-run game. A Michael De La Cruz double in the sixth and a Boomer Collins sac fly in the seventh put Lansing within a grand slam of tying things up. McBroom had a three-hit game that included two doubles. Lugo, De La Cruz and Christian Vazquez turned in two-hit efforts with De La Cruz also reaching base via the base on balls. Chris Carlson singled, walked and stole a base and David Harris had a base hit. Davis and Leblebijian had rough games not only with the glove but with the stick by going 0-for-4 and 0-for-5 respectively.

Eugene 6 Vancouver 5

Kevin Garcia
had a productive night with a hit, a walk, a sacrifice squeeze, a stolen base and a pick off.

Eugene, OR
- The Cubs affiliate got a walk-off win after the Canadians bullpen collapsed in the last two innings. Jonathan Harris started this one for the C's and lasted two-plus innings. He survived a hit and a walk and retired the side in order, totaling four K's to this point. However, he couldn't find the strike zone in the third as he walked the bases loaded. Jon Wandling allowed just one inherited runner to score and pitched 5-1/3 innings. He wound up allowing four runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks but struck out four. Joe Claver walked a batter and got credit for one-third of an inning after Kevin Garcia picked off a runner at first from behind the plate. Andrew Case struck out a batter to end the eighth but not before giving up the game-tying hit. Joey Aquino (0-1) walked the leadoff hitter in the bottom of the ninth and errors by Connor Panas in left field and Sean Hurley in right led to the game-losing run to cross the plate.

Carl Wise went 1-for-5, driving in the first two Canadians runs on Monday.

Carl Wise got the C's rolling with a two-run single in the third inning before Hurley's fifth homer of the season and an Earl Burl III RBI single led to two more runs in the sixth. Garcia squeezed home another run with a sacrifice bunt in the eighth. Panas had two hits and two walks and Hurley had a two-hit night. Garcia had a hit and a walk while Gunnar Heidt and Earl Burl III had the other hits. J.C. Cardenas and Lane Thomas were both 0-for-4 with Cardenas drawing a walk. Garcia, Thomas and Burl also stole a base.

Bluefield 10 Burlington 6

Bluefield, WV
- The Jays flushed the Royals with a converted touchdown in the seventh inning to overcome a 6-3 deficit. Juan Tejada's second home run of the game - a three-run shot - gave the Jays the lead for good. The other four runs in the seventh were scored on an error and not one, not two, but three passed balls. Bluefield got on the board in the fourth on two hit by pitches with Nick Sinay and Andres Sotillo getting to wear Mr. Rawlings. Tejada belted a solo shot in the sixth that tied the game at 3-3. Tejada, D.J. McKnight, Rodrigo Orozco and Deiferson Barreto all turned in two-hit games. Mattingly Romanin put up a '1' in the hit, walk and hit by pitch columns. Sinay and Sotlillo also added a double with their HBP's and Sinay swiped a base. Freddy Rodriguez had a hit and a walk. Aaron Attaway was 0-for-4 and Christian Williams was 0-for-5 but he crossed home plate twice.

Angel Perdomo pitched five innings of one-run ball on four hits and a walk. He struck out a pair to finish with a Game Score of 56. Grayson Huffman was charged with a blown save after giving up four runs (two earned after a Romanin error at third) on three hits and a hit by pitch over 1-1/3 innings. Fellow lefty Zak Wasilewski (1-1) could not strand Huffman's two runners and was zinged for an unearned run (after a Barreto error at second) but still got the win after scattering three hits over 2-2/3 innings.

GCL Blue Jays 5 GCL Phillies 4

Dunedin, FL
- The Jays snapped a 0-0 tie with three runs in the seventh but blew a 4-0 lead only to win this one in walk-off fashion. Bryan Lizardo gave the home side a happy ending with a two-out single to score a Kalik May leadoff hit. May teamed up with Edward Olivares on the back end of a double steal that saw Olivares rumble home with the game's first run. Ryan Hissey fit one into center field to score two more in the seventh. Juandy Mendoza built the lead to 4-0 with an RBI single to score a Jesus Severino base knock. May was 4-for-5 and Severino was 2-for-4 to account for six of the Jays' 10 hits. Hissey and Levi Scott both had base hits and a base on balls and Hissey getting hit by a pitch. Jake Thomas walked twice and stole a base. Olivares drew a walk but Owen Spiwak and Javier Hernandez were both 0-for-2 with Spiwak taking one for the team.

Denis Diaz did his job over six innings by shutting out the Phils on three hits while striking out six over six innings to put up a Game Score of 72. Kelyn Jose kept the Phillies off the board for the next two innings but could not get anyone out in the ninth inning, resulting in three runs. Two of the runs were unearned but Jose made a throwing error and Mendoza had a clank at second to start off the ninth. Mike Estevez (2-0) allowed both of his inherited runners to score as well as the tying run on three hits in the ninth before getting the 'W'.

DSL Blue Jays 13 DSL Reds 4

San Pedro de Macoris, DR
- The Jays scored all of their runs in the first four innings before taking the rest of the day off. RBI singles by Norberto Obeso, Enmanuel Moreta, Antony Fuentes and an RBI double from Christian Peguero provided a 4-0 cushion after one inning. Obeso plated another in the second with a fielder's choice ground ball. Jesus Navarro drove in another with a single and a Francisco Rodriguez bases-loaded walk highlighted a five-run third as two runs scored on a wild pitch and another on a passed ball. Manuel Herazo doubled home a run, Kevin Vicuna singled one in and Obeso sac-flied another for the final three runs in the fourth. Navarro had three of the Jays' 13 hits, was hit by a pitch and stole a base. Vicuna, Moreta and Peguero had two-hit efforts with Vicuna drawing a walk and Moreta and Peguero taking one for the team. Herazo had three walks to go along with his double while Rodriguez had a hit and two walks. Sterling Guzman had a base on balls and a hit by pitch.

Jose Nova (1-4, 2.45) was super over seven shutout innings by holding the Reds to just four hits and keeping the ball on the ground by racking up 14 outs in play on the diamond. The left-hander struck out one and walked nobody. Manuel Dominguez was dinged for three runs on two hits and three walks over two-thirds of an inning. Alvaro Galindo stranded the two Dominguez runners but allowed an unearned run in the ninth on a hit and a walk over 1-1/3 innings.

I hadn't realized how young Lugo was for Dunedin, kind of makes me reassess my opinion of him, particularly if he keeps raking in Lansing.
