Apologies to Harry Hooper, Dwight Evans, Nomar Garciaparra and a host of others, who didn't quite make the list ...

Ted Williams. Cuz my older brother had his book "The Science of Hitting". (A great read, btw, for any up and coming ball players.)

And also because he's Ted, Freaking, Williams. My favorite player that I never got to see swing a bat. Ask me why and I couldn't tell you why. These things just happen.

If there is ever a player that makes you say "What if?", he's it. What if he didn't miss those seasons...

I voted for the Rocket - 7 Cy Youngs and 350+ wins are pretty amazing. I find it hard to understand how people can put Pedro or Cy Young above him unless we are saying the Roger is really now a Yankee.

Now the RC vs. Ted Williams seems like a contest. Can anyone who is clever with numbers calculate their value (Win Shares?) over their careers?

7 Cy Youngs and 350+ wins are pretty amazing.

True. But to be fair, he won "only" three of the Cy Young Awards (and one MVP!) with Boston, and "only" 192 of his wins came for the Sox ... ironically, tying him with Cy Young for most wins by a Sox pitcher.

Third on the list? Tim Wakefield, with 150! Wonder if he can knuckle through another 43 wins before his arm gives out -- that'd be at least another three full seasons.

I think it's interesting that WIlliams has every single non-pitcher vote.

Jimmie Foxx was pretty good!

Tris Speaker wasn't half bad either though he played well before the televison era so who can raise their hands and say they even saw a clip of him?

Here's a comparison of Pedro's and Roger's through age 33.  That covers the entire period that the Rocket was in Boston.  Pedro of course started in LA and Montreal, and there's one Met season there too.  Pedro was nonetheless a significantly better pitcher.

I think Roger should be remembered for being on th eonly team that he won a Cy Young for EVERY YEAR HE WAS THERE!

:)

Seriously though, it has to be Williams, which is almost a shame for guys like the Rocket and Yaz who could have won this easily on many other teams.
